A Professor of Magical Writings at Hogwarts Chapter 220: Black's Traces

To be honest, Felix didn't know whether Luna had a talent for divination. This little girl was always very special, but his focus was: "Do you often go to the Forbidden Forest?"

Luna was stunned for a moment, as if she was thinking about how to answer this question. Felix also wanted to hear how she would defend herself, but then Luna was in a trance.

Felix snapped his fingers in front of her, and Luna said dreamily: "Firenze is a good person."

Felix was not sure whether her words were an answer to his previous question, but he roughly understood what she meant: the centaur named Firenze would protect her.

He tentatively said: "Maybe I can get to know your centaur friend? I happen to be going to the Forbidden Forest on the weekend to release a small animal..."

"Oh, I'm not sure, Firenze said that his companions are very traditional, and according to my understanding, they have bad tempers." Luna said. "I can talk to him first."

...

Two days later, Hogwarts was rainy and the black clouds were very low, making it hard to breathe. The temperature dropped to the bottom, and Madam Pomfrey reminded the young wizards to change into thick clothes more than once.

"She doesn't need to remind us, I mean, we are not fools." Ron pointed to the weather outside. It was drizzling outside the window, hitting the shed of the second greenhouse.

Harry flicked the pod weakly. "Wood will like it. He thinks there is a good chance that our first game will be on a rainy day. He can't wait to include this part in his training... finally he's got the chance."

Mrs. Sprout clapped her hands to attract the attention of the little wizards. She reminded them, "Pay attention to your techniques. Be gentle, or they will give you a hard time."

But it was too late. Seamus Finnigan's movements were very rough because he was repeating his experience in the magic class with Neville. "You saw it too, as soon as I touched that fiery red magic symbol, it reacted strongly. I guess... Ouch!"

The pod in front of him exploded, and seven or eight hard beans shot out of it, all hitting his face. One of them accidentally injured Neville, and he began to groan.

Mrs. Sprout walked over quickly and glanced at the scene. "You didn't follow the instructions and ignored the teacher's words! I really should deduct points from you, Mr. Finnigan." She took Seamus and Neville to the corner. "Just apply some ointment. To be honest, if you are so careless when squeezing the pus from the Babo tuber, you will definitely suffer..."

A flash of lightning suddenly flashed across the sky, illuminating the dim castle. Felix retracted his wand and turned to write and draw on the parchment. In a glass container next to him, a fist-sized eight-eyed giant spider said angrily, "You are not trustworthy, wizard!"

Felix said, "I promised you to let you go back before Halloween, but I didn't say which day. And... do you really not consider my suggestion? I can let you be my assistant."

"What assistant? Like that little girl?" said the eight-eyed giant spider. It had seen Hermione. The little witch was very interested in it until Felix showed her its true size.

In its normal state, the Acromantula is as big as a small carriage, with hard black hair all over its body, a small and ugly head, and a pair of large claws that always make "clicking" sounds at any time.

"Ah, almost, but you have to continue to cooperate with my research." Felix said.

The Acromantula thought for a moment, then yelled angrily. Felix was annoyed by its noise and cast a silencing spell on the glass container.

"Finally, we have obtained the detailed test data. The remaining work is to repeat some tests on other creatures, compare the results, and have a clear idea." Felix put away a thick stack of parchment.

He would do this for every ancient magic he had mastered. Flitwick approved of this caution.

That night, the drizzle turned into a heavy rain, and the big raindrops knocked on the windowsill of the castle. In a half-asleep state, Felix heard a low buzzing alarm.

He sat up suddenly, and the wand appeared in his hand instantly. He waited quietly for a few seconds, but there was no one. But he soon thought of something, and quickly came out of the bedroom and pushed open the window of the office.

The rain was blown into the room by the strong wind, and it was pitch black outside the window. The alarm sounded clear all of a sudden.

"It's the pocket peephole at the castle gate. Sirius Black is here!"

He turned over and jumped out of the window. A glimmer flashed in the ring, and a flying broom suddenly appeared. The next second, he rode the broom through the layers of rain as thick as a curtain and disappeared in front of the office.

When he appeared at the castle gate, there was no one here. There was only a place above the gate, which kept flashing golden light, accompanied by a huge buzzing sound.

Felix pointed at himself with his wand, and large pieces of water mist emanated from him, making him look like a boiling kettle. At this moment, Dumbledore appeared. He was wearing a gray-blue pajamas, without even glasses, and a fiery red phoenix was lying on his shoulder.

"Hello, Fawkes." Felix greeted.

Fawkes hummed.

A black cat appeared in the distance, and turned into Professor McGonagall, who was panting, while running.

"Did you find anything, Felix?" Dumbledore said in a deep voice.

"Obviously, I'm late." Felix pointed to the broom in his hand. Among the three people, he was closest to the castle gate. "I have rushed here as fast as possible, but the rain helped him a lot."

"Is it Sirius Black?" Professor McGonagall asked in a panic.

"Obviously..." Felix waved his wand and stopped the buzzing.

"We should search the castle, Dumbledore," Professor McGonagall said seriously, "Filius Flitwick, Severus Snape, Argus Filch..." She muttered the names one by one, and three silver-white cats flew out of her wand and flew away in different directions.

Dumbledore watched Professor McGonagall's Patronus disappear quietly. He leaned over to observe the ground at the castle gate, his fingers touching the cold marble, and then he walked into the castle nimbly and asked the row of portraits closest to the gate.

"Did anyone break in?"

"No, we didn't find anything." The characters in the portraits spoke in unison, "Of course we can be deceived, Mr. Headmaster."

Dumbledore nodded and said nothing.

"Is it possible that Black is hiding in the castle, Albus?" Professor McGonagall said worriedly.

"It's unlikely," Dumbledore said softly, "Felix came very quickly, he can't have the time to clean up his traces calmly. It's very likely that he just appeared from a distance and triggered the alarm. But we'd better make some preparations, Fawkes--"
