Chapter 17 Harvest

After yesterday's preliminary exploration, Shu did not wander around this time. After breakfast, he went straight to the river.

What surprised her was that there were several young girls washing clothes in groups of three or four by the river.

Amidst their laughter, it did not stop them from swinging the hammers in their hands with great force.

Shu Miao watched from a distance for a while and found that most of these girls had rosy complexions and their clothes had almost no patches. They must be the girls in the team who were rarely pampered.

No wonder, she goes out to wash clothes at this time and doesn’t have to participate in the heavy autumn harvest.

After getting a general understanding, Shu Miao withdrew his gaze and looked towards the riverbank.

Fortunately, the riverbed is large enough, so even if the area with the most abundant water flow is occupied, there are still many other suitable places.

Shu Miao carried a simple "net bag" made from yesterday's temporary "cloth bag" and came to a place with lush aquatic plants and gentle water flow.

She stared at the water for a moment, and when she saw some small fish swimming in the distance, she felt relieved.

After initially selecting a riverbank with a forked ditch, Shu Miao no longer hesitated and quickly took off his cloth shoes, which had already exposed his toes, and placed them next to the wooden barrel.

He rolled up his trouser legs, picked up the net bag, walked into the river, and carefully sank the "net bag" in his hand to the edge of the water plants.

After determining the height, rush upstream quickly.

Although the sand and gravel in the water are a bit harsh on my feet, it is still bearable.

After sweeping about four or five meters, Shu Miao suddenly raised the net bag.

Because the "net bag" was made of rotten pants and did not have as good water-filtering properties as a mesh, thick mud and gravel continued to accumulate in the "net bag", and the weight almost knocked Shu Miao into the water.

Fortunately, after staggering for several steps, she managed to stabilize her body.

He ran a few quick steps to the riverbank and poured all the soil and sand in the net bag onto the ground.

Without even checking to see if he had any gains, he turned around and quickly ran back to the river, using the same method to block the mouth of the small ditch that he had been eyeing for a long time.

Because the width of the small ditch is too narrow, the size of the "net bag" is just right to block the two sides, directly eliminating the possibility of fish escaping.

When Shu Miao thought about the stirring she had just made in the river water, which might have driven a lot of fish into hiding in the small ditches, waiting for her to collect the net, she couldn't help but feel excited.

She held the "net bag" with both hands and moved forward slowly, intending to carry the net bag from bottom to top to the end.

The fish hiding in the ditch were startled and instantly went into a panic.

Shu Miao saw several bright white spots with his naked eyes, and a look of joy instantly appeared on his face.

It has been who knows how long since this small ditch was cleaned. There is a thick layer of silt with an unspeakable stench.

Fortunately, the small ditch was only two or three meters long and soon reached the end.

Shu Miao quickly raised the net and turned to run towards the pile of sand, gravel and mud that had just been dumped.

Knowing that there would definitely be a catch, Shu Miao was worried that the fry would die from lack of oxygen, so he turned around again and ran quickly to the river without even emptying the silt in the net bag.

He lifted the wooden barrel and swung it on the river surface, and water instantly flowed into the barrel.

Shu Miao didn't dare to fill the bucket with too much water, fearing that he couldn't carry it, so he quickly picked up the bucket and ran back.

Standing next to the mud, Shu Miao couldn't wait to squat down and check the situation inside the net bag.

Unexpectedly, when she looked up, a small light green shrimp flew straight towards Shu Miao's door and pricked her cheek.

She subconsciously raised her hand to touch the painful spot on her face, but when she saw that her hands were covered in black mud, she stopped abruptly and turned to catch the escaping shrimp.

When the shrimp fell into the fine sand, it was immediately covered with a layer of "dipping sauce" and could no longer jump up.

Shu Miao quickly and easily put it into the bucket.

With this successful start, Shu Miao is looking forward to the next harvest.

Next, she successively harvested two small flat fish, three crucian carps that were no longer than her fingers, a handful of small fish fry that were mostly dead, and a small pile of snails. What surprised her most was the turtle that was about the size of a bottle cap.

When she caught it in her hands, the four short legs left afterimages.

Shu Miao found it amusing and wanted to touch its nose. It immediately stretched out its neck, which was not much shorter than its body, and came towards her to bite her "ferociously".

Shu Miao couldn't help but burst out laughing.

He flicked its ferocious little head and put it into the barrel.

He turned and began to examine the pile of sand and gravel that he had scooped out of the river.

Compared with the bountiful harvest in the small ditch, this net is somewhat dispensable.

Apart from a few small snails, there was only a river clam that was about half the size of her palm.

But compared to yesterday afternoon when we got nothing, it can barely be considered a good harvest!

What she did was noticed by a young girl who was washing clothes.

Shu Miao then cast several more nets, but in the end she only harvested some snails, and her fiery heart gradually calmed down.

The desire to log off the internet again instantly dropped to the lowest point.

She was now certain that the movement she had just made must have scared away all the fish nearby.

If she continued like this, she would probably only be able to harvest some snails. She didn't know how to process snails, and there wasn't much meat in them. It would be a waste to take them back, so she might as well stop here.

Shu Miao made a new decision. He first cleaned the "net bag" in the river and rubbed off the mud on his legs.

Finally, he squatted on a clean stone and carefully cleaned the mud from between his nails.

At this moment, a female voice came from behind her.

"Not bad, you're quite capable!"

When Shu Miao heard the voice, he looked back and saw a girl looking at him with a smile.

The girl was probably about sixteen or seventeen years old, with black hair braided into a shiny black pigtail.

She has a pretty face, clear eyes, and a lively look between her eyebrows, which makes people like her at first sight.

The same is true for Shu Miao, but it’s not entirely because of her appearance, but because of the light and sunny feeling around her, which is very much like Sister Ling.

For a moment, she felt dazed.

It seemed like her beloved sister Ling also accompanied her to this strange place.

But this fantasy was shattered the moment the other party opened his mouth.

"Whose child are you? Why have I never seen you before?"

Shu Miao lowered his eyes, hiding the sadness in them.

The original body looked about 60% similar to her. If she was a little fatter, she would look even more like her. If it was Sister Ling who had taken care of her since she was a child, there was no way she wouldn't recognize her.

Then there is only one explanation, she is not Sister Ling...

Jiang Xuanfang didn't get annoyed when she didn't respond. Instead, she pointed to the fields across the river with a smile.

"The canal over there isn't dry yet. Even though it's been fished a few times before, there are definitely more fish than here. Why don't you go over there and take a look?"

She said this because she felt that the girl in front of her was really pitiful. She must be starving, otherwise why would she not even let go of the small fish fry.

Thinking of the relationship between her family and his younger brother, he couldn't help but feel uneasy.

But in just a moment, it was forgotten.

Before she could say anything else, the girl who had just finished washing clothes by the river waved towards her, "Fangzi, what are you doing? It's time to go home!"
