After a morning of classes, the two main subject teachers were very satisfied with this late transfer student.
After all, which teacher would not like a student who listens attentively in class and whose eyes always sparkle with a desire for knowledge?
The bell rang and Gao Xingyi closed his textbook and announced the end of get out of class.
Thinking of something, he called Shu Miao over alone.
He asked her about her pinyin learning progress in a gentle tone, and only gave up after seeing that she had indeed mastered it and would not fall behind.
While the two were asking and answering each other, Shu Zili, who was waiting outside the back door of the classroom, was so anxious that he scratched his head and looked into the classroom from time to time.
As soon as Teacher Gao left, Shu Zili rushed into the classroom and grabbed someone and ran away.
Fortunately, Shu Miao had anticipated this and quickly grabbed the desk, steadying his steps. He rolled his eyes at him speechlessly.
"Wait a minute, I haven't collected my things yet."
"Why collect it? If you're late, the soy milk will be gone!"
"Then you go first, I'll come find it later." Shu Miao said as she exerted a little force on her hands and easily broke free from his hand.
Instead, he continued to pack his things slowly.
Shu Zili stared at his hands in a daze, and then he realized that his sister was not as weak as she looked. His anxious heart instantly calmed down a little.
He opened his mouth, but finally didn't dare to urge her anymore.
Shu Miao was not ungrateful, he just didn't want to be treated like an object by the other party and dragged wherever he wanted.
Seeing that he was no longer reckless and impatient, Shu Miao silently quickened her pace of packing.
Shu Zili was impatient after all, but as soon as he left the school gate, he completely forgot the lesson he had just learned and started running wildly again, pulling the person in his hand.
This time Shu Miao didn't struggle anymore and followed him obediently.
The main reason was that she was really hungry at the moment. Although she didn't know how Zili could ensure that the tung fruits could be exchanged for soy milk, she knew that if she had something delicious, she would be a fool not to eat it, so she naturally had to follow.
Shu Miao followed behind Zi Li, passing through most of the brigade, crossing bridges, and taking shortcuts through ridges.
Finally, it stopped at a small courtyard not far from the brigade headquarters.
It was noon, and Shu Zili looked around and saw that there were not many people around, so he instantly became a lot bolder.
Without thinking, he shouted at the top of his lungs, "Aunt Qin, are you home? I'm here to see you!"
Shu Miao: “…”
Although there is no one around at the moment, could you please open your eyes and look at these crowded houses? Your shout is too arrogant!
Thinking of this, she quickly grabbed Zili's sleeve and signaled him with her eyes to look at the next yard.
Although Shu Zili was confused, he still turned his head and glanced at her as she meant.
This glance was extraordinary. He was looking directly into a pair of eyes that were staring at him, and he fell silent instantly.
Now that he knew the place, Shu Miao no longer relied on him. He walked around him, went to the gate of the courtyard, and started knocking on it.
Knowing that he had done something wrong, Zi Li followed his cousin sullenly and stopped talking nonsense.
Just when Shu Miao was wondering if there was no one at home, the gate opened a crack and a little round-faced girl poked her head out. She was the girl who had exchanged pencils with Zili before.
She first glanced at Shu Miao, then her eyes fell on Shu Zili, her voice soft,
"My mother hasn't come home yet."
At this moment, Shu Zili's wounds had healed and he had forgotten the pain. He walked forward and was about to enter the door, but was blocked by the girl.
"Why don't you go back to school first, and then ask my mom when she gets home, and then I'll bring it to you."
Although it was a question, the girl's firm gaze was conveying a message, that is, the two were not welcome to enter the house.
"Chen Xiaoxiao, are you kidding me? I clearly..." Shu Zili was instantly unhappy and wanted to argue with her on the spot.
But Shu Miao, who had been on guard against him, covered his mouth in time.
Shu Zili was caught off guard and was restrained. He was so shocked that his eyes widened suddenly.
Subconsciously raising my hand, I was about to pry the hand covering my mouth away.
"Well..." She's playing dirty. Why are you covering my mouth?
Shu Miao covered his mouth tightly, smiled symbolically at the girl, and dragged him away decisively.
As the gate closed, she finally let go.
As soon as Zili was free, he turned around angrily and wanted to argue again, but he couldn't break free from Shu Miao's hand.
Zi Li, who had already been hit hard, could no longer hold back. Tears welled up in his eyes as he loudly questioned Shu Miao,
"Why are you stopping me? You clearly know..." I exchanged tung fruit for soy milk.
"I know." Shu Miao looked back at him calmly.
Isn’t it just giving the tung fruit to others in advance?
Didn’t she say that her mother was not at home? She was a child and couldn’t make decisions. It would be useless to make things difficult for her. She should either wait patiently or do as the girl said.
Although she didn't quite understand why private transactions were prohibited, she knew that things that were expressly prohibited should never be stated openly. If Zili really made a big deal out of it, it would not be good for anyone.
"Hmph! You knew that, but you still don't help me?" Zili was still unconvinced. He kicked away the small stone at his feet, and his whole body was visibly angry.
Shu Miao didn't want to continue this meaningless topic with him. She took out two sweet potatoes from her backpack and handed one to him. "I'm hungry. Eat first!"
He touched his already empty stomach and then reluctantly took the sweet potato, but he did not say any more angry words afterwards.
The two of them walked back while chewing on dry sweet potatoes. Unlike Zili who was full of resentment, Shu Miao looked around curiously.
Most of the houses in the brigade along the river are adobe huts. She was naturally very curious to see so many brick and tile houses.
