Chapter 7 "Our Own People"

She had heard that there were wild boars and wolves in the mountains. If she was unlucky enough to encounter them and didn't react in time, she would be in trouble even if she had the space in her hands!

She also thought about waiting until dawn to go home, but she didn't dare to bet that the "auntie" would send people up the mountain to look for her after discovering that she didn't go home.

Because it is easy to associate her with the chestnut that someone else got to first.

Without thinking any more, she carefully avoided the chestnut shells on the ground and hurriedly left the chestnut forest.

Maybe there were so many people picking chestnuts that a path was visible in the grass.

Seeing this, Shu Miao was delighted and ran wildly along the trail left by his predecessors.

Before it got completely dark, Shu Miao finally confirmed that the path they had trampled led to the Yanhe Brigade.

Since it is our own brigade, everything will be easy.

Fortunately, the moon is exceptionally bright today, and I can see the road clearly if I look carefully.

When Shu Miao reached the mountain road where people often appeared, she finally felt relieved.

She is familiar with this road!

Correspondingly, her pace became faster.

Seeing from a distance that the headlights of the brigade headquarters were still on, Shu Miao paused slightly, and then carefully avoided the few houses that were making noise.

When she returned to the back door of her house, she just reached out to push the door open, but immediately felt something was wrong.

He squatted in the corner, took out the backpack he brought today from the space, filled it with half a basket of chestnut balls, endured the pain in his arms, and knocked on the door with a bamboo pole tied to a sickle.

As she knocked on the door, there was immediate movement in the house, as if someone was waiting for her return.

Shu Miao was dazed for a moment, but quickly regained his composure and quickly returned to his usual lifeless look.

"Squeak~" a little head popped out of the door.

Shu Miao was a little surprised to see the person coming, but she just pursed her lips, said nothing and didn't look at him.

Shu Zili saw that it was indeed Shu Miao, and he visibly breathed a sigh of relief. Then he couldn't help but scolded,

"If you don't come home after dark, you won't have to eat dinner!"

After he finished speaking, he realized that she wouldn't understand what he said, and frowned in annoyance.

The next second, he simply stepped forward, grabbed his silly cousin by the collar and dragged her into the room.

During the shoving and pushing, he realized something was wrong. Just as he was about to reach out to feel what was in the backpack, he was grabbed by a small hand.

Shu Zili looked over in confusion, and was caught off guard by a pair of black eyes that were dotted with starlight, and was stunned immediately.

In his memory, his cousin's eyes were always dark and lifeless, and every time they looked at each other, he couldn't help but feel numb.

In addition, she didn't say anything, but just stared at you with her creepy eyes, just like the "little ghost who came to take your life" that the old people said.

As a result, all the children in the team, both adults and children, did not like to play with the children of the Shu family.

Of course, because the adults are so secretive about everything, no one bullies them.

When he was a child, he and his mother resented his cousin, a freak, because she caused them to be pointed at by others until his grandfather passed away.

The door of our house was always knocked maliciously in the middle of the night, so my mother went to the team leader for help.

We did arrange for militia patrols in the first few days, but people have to work in the fields. There is no reason to specially transfer two young and strong men who can work hard just for you.

The militia withdrew in just seven or eight days.

From then on, the harassment in the middle of the night became more frequent.

My mother had no choice but to keep a gong at home. If the harasser just said a few sweet words, she would tolerate it. But if there was any other unusual movement, she would ring the gong to force the members living nearby to get up and check the situation.

He also asked his mother why everyone was so indifferent?

Obviously, his Shu family is also part of the Yanhe Brigade...

My mother only said vaguely that it was because the Shu family was an outsider and had a small population.

But he's not a kid anymore, and he knows it's not entirely due to this...

In order not to worry his mother, he didn't say much, but he never rejected his cousin since then.

Although she is a freak, her last name is also Shu, isn't it?

Seeing him staring at her in a daze, Shu Miao was puzzled, but still warned, "Mao Li, it's prickly."

Shu Zili, who had been daydreaming, was brought back to his senses. He looked confused and asked, "What?"

"Chestnuts are prickly." Shu Miao repeated it patiently. Actually, she didn't want to talk weirdly all day long, but no matter what the disease was, it had to get better slowly so as not to seem abrupt and there was no need to rush.

After hearing what his cousin said, Shu Zili widened his eyes in surprise, "You, you can speak now?"

Then he realized that what he said was not right, raised his hand and slapped his mouth, and quickly changed his words, "You are finally well!"

When he said this, his eyes lit up several degrees, and anyone could see that he was truly happy for Shu Miao.

Shu Miao moved her eyes, ignored him, and went straight to the kitchen.

After taking only two steps, someone grabbed the backpack.

The next second, Shu Zili's voice was lowered deliberately, "Give me the backpack. I've left the dried bedding and dinner in your room. Eat quickly, and be careful of centipedes."

Huo Luo wanted to take the backpack away without any explanation. Shu Miao did not insist and gave him the backpack despite his strength.

Just as I was about to thank him, I saw him holding a backpack and rushing to the main house impatiently. The corners of my mouth twitched in silence.

Then he went to the kitchen in the dark, scooped a bucket of water from the vat, and washed his hands and face.

When she returned to the house, she did not close the door immediately. Instead, she used the moonlight shining into the house to start looking for where her dinner was.
