Tian Tian really couldn't stand her body which hurt whenever she moved. Even squatting to go to the toilet took a lot of effort, so she just lay on the kang for the whole day.
She was lying down with a slight headache and planned to go downstairs to help Old Mrs. Tian.
Old Mrs. Tian had just finished preparing the meal and sent her two children to take it to Chen Guihua and the others. When she looked up, she saw Tian Tian limping in.
"What are you doing here? Just lie down on the kang!" said Old Mrs. Tian.
"I've been lying on the kang all day and my head hurts, so I thought of coming down to see if there's anything I can do to help you," said Tian Tian.
"There's nothing I can do to help you with. The food is ready. Go get the dishes and chopsticks and come over to eat." said Old Mrs. Tian.
Tian Tian took two bowls and chopsticks from the dish rack nearby, moved a small stool, and sat in front of the pot to eat.
Now Chen Guihua and the others eat in the fields, and usually only Old Lady Tian and Tian Tian eat at home. They don’t have a table anymore, but eat directly on the stove.
Old Mrs. Tian fried dried beans and cornmeal cakes. The beans are now off the shelves, but Old Mrs. Tian dried the beans, cowpeas, and eggplants that she couldn’t finish eating before. Whenever she wants to eat them, she just soaks them and fries them.
After dinner, Old Mrs. Tian went outside to get a pot of water, and sat in the yard, washing dishes while looking out the gate.
"How come these two guys went out to deliver a meal and disappeared?" Old Mrs. Tian said puzzledly.
According to the character of these two children, as soon as they saw smoke coming out of the chimney at home, they knew it was time for dinner, and they would definitely rush home and not miss a meal.
"Grandma! How about I go look for it?" Tian Tian asked.
She hadn't done any work all day and was feeling a little embarrassed.
"No need! With the way you walk, it will take a long time to find you. Don't let Tian Baobao and the others fail to find you and get you involved too." Old Mrs. Tian finished washing the last bowl, wiped her hands on her apron, untied her apron and went out to look for Tian Baobao and the others.
Tian Tian limped and poured the dishwater into the yard, pressed the water to rinse the basin, and then brought the basin into the house.
When she was about to go back to her room, she heard the powerful voice of Old Lady Tian from outside the door.
"I asked you to deliver a meal, but where did you deliver it to? Didn't you come back earlier after delivering the meal? All you do is play around all day."
I could still hear Tian Baobao struggling, "Nurse, milk, milk! Didn't I take Xiao Zhuo to collect grass for the pigs? That's why I came back a little late."
"Picking pig grass! Where's your pig grass? I ate it all in your stomach, and you still want to bully me! You're getting too bold!"
"Grandma! I was just thinking about going to pick grass for the pigs, but I haven't had time to go yet!"
Hearing the noise, Tian Tian stopped walking into the house. The next second, she saw Old Lady Tian coming back grabbing Tian Baobao and Tian Zhuo's ears. Tian Baobao and Tian Zhuo were grimacing in pain.
After entering the yard, Old Mrs. Tian loosened her hands that were twisting their ears.
"Can you two be more careful in the future? You are not children anymore! You have all grown up. It's autumn harvest time now and your dad and mom are so tired. Can you help with more housework instead of just thinking about playing all day long?" Old Mrs. Tian said angrily.
Her family just spoils their child too much, and the child doesn't understand anything.
Autumn harvest is a very strenuous job. After each harvest, everyone in the family becomes extremely thin. She spends every day thinking about how to prepare some delicious meals to nourish everyone, and how to use the few grains in the house to feed everyone. She is so busy every day, but the two children still play every day.
When they were in school before, Grandma Tian wouldn't say anything, after all, the two of them could still pick grass for the pigs on the way back. Now that they are on vacation, if they still do the same as before, saying they are going to pick grass for the pigs but actually playing outside every day, Grandma Tian won't allow it.
Tian Baobao and Tian Zhuo felt that they were in the wrong and kept their heads down without saying anything. They were indeed very lucky kids in the brigade. Although they ate simple meals, they were able to get enough to eat.
Now it is the autumn harvest time, and in order to provide nourishment for Lin Meiyu and the others, Old Lady Tian basically fries eggs for them every day. The two of them can also benefit from this and have a couple of bites of eggs every day.
Some children cook their own meals at the stove when they are two or three years old, and they are still playing there when they are eight years old.
"I'm sorry, Grandma! We won't play anymore!"
Old Mrs. Tian felt a little soft-hearted when she saw how pitiful they looked. "It's not that we don't allow you two to play. Who has ever stopped you two from playing before? We washed your clothes if they got dirty and mended them if they got torn. We never said anything, but you have to be sensible."
Tian Baobao and Tian Zhuo nodded like little chicks pecking at rice.
