After Freya entered her room, she took a bath and changed into a better dress. Thinking of where to keep Rowan’s shirt, she folded it and placed it inside her own dress so no one would see it, along with the silk dress that no longer had its straps intact since Rowan thought it was better to rip them off.
Freya walked to the mirror to check herself. She wanted to know if there were any changes in her body now that she had done it. Her face still looked the same, and everything about her body still appeared the same. The only thing she was left with was the memory of being under Rowan while begging him to have his way. Freya closed her eyes; since morning, her only thoughts were ones of regret.
Why did she give in to temptation? It all started when she saw Rowan pleasing another woman, then followed by reading the book the princess was hiding. All these fueled her desires, and the last string that was pulled was hearing the princess plan to be touched by Rowan. Freya sighed, pressing her temples with her hand. She was really tired.
"This is going to be the last time," Freya muttered to herself. If she had given in to temptation, she wouldn’t do it again. She would let it go as a mistake, but the problem was that she was no longer pure. What if, in the future, she got married, and the person she wanted as a husband wasn’t Rowan? He was just too... Freya didn’t know how to explain it, but Rowan wasn’t her type of man. He was wild. She decided to forget everything that happened between her and Rowan the previous night.
"I won’t do it again."
"Do what again?" Her father’s voice caused Freya to jump to the side in fear.
Louis walked into the room, looking at his daughter. "Do what again?" he repeated the question.
Freya blinked, unable to look her father in the eyes. The guilt of being touched by a man before marriage filled her soul, eating her up from the inside, knowing how much her father trusted her and wanted the best for her. She didn’t know how he would handle it if he found out that she had been touched, and by the same man he trusted so much.
"Freya?" Louis called for his daughter’s attention when he noticed the distant look in her eyes. "Are you okay? You didn’t join the royal family for breakfast."
Freya nodded, pushing her hair to the side. "Yes... I’m fine, Pa. I just felt like sleeping more."
"Hmm..." Louis twitched his lips, looking at the girl suspiciously. "Freya, if you’re not happy here in Eridor, you can always go back to Avon, and I promise, I won’t hate you for any reason."
The girl gave her father a nervous smile, trying to hide the hurt in her eyes. The way her father had protected and shielded her all these years while growing up, so she would end up with a good man, and here she was, losing all of that in one night because she wanted to have a taste of something wild.
"Pa... what kind of man would you want me to get married to?" Freya asked in a small voice, mindlessly pushing her finger on the table.
Louis was surprised; he had never had this conversation with his daughter before. "Is this about the man you said you liked? What is he like?"
Freya remembered how she had told everyone she liked someone else. It wasn’t even serious because the thief she met was just handsome, and there was nothing else she knew about him. "No... I’m just asking... It’s not about the man I said I liked."
Louis twitched his lips, humming thoughtfully. Taking a step closer to his daughter, he held her hands. "Freya... you’re my beloved daughter, and yes, I want the best for you. But while I want the best for you, I also know that you have your own feelings. Any man you bring home will receive my blessing as long as you love him."
The man paused for a minute. When he continued, his eyes were now filled with tears. "Your mother... I loved her so much. She was the best part of my being. And when she died, a part of me died with her, but I was able to continue living because of you. Freya, you’re a reminder of my love and the happiness I shared with your mother. And I’ll forever support anything that makes you happy. Trust me."
Freya sniffled back her tears, looking away from her father. She tucked her hair behind her ear as her hands trembled.
"I can’t believe my little girl is all grown up now, already talking about marriage. You were just this little not long ago." Louis sighed, shaking his head slightly.
Freya chuckled, "Pa! I’m no longer a little girl, you know."
"I know... I know..." he said, giving his daughter’s nose a small pinch. "It’s hard to see your own daughter grow, knowing she’ll end up as another man’s wife."
Freya sighed, now looking down at her feet. The guilt in her heart was starting to ease off until she heard her father’s next words.
"I agree to let you marry any man you love, but if a man dares to touch my daughter before marriage, I’m going to kill him." Louis said, gritting his teeth.
Freya swallowed hard. "Pa... what are you saying?" Her voice cracked.
"I’ve heard about men going around deceiving young maidens and taking them to bed with no intentions of getting married. If anyone dares to touch my daughter, I’ll make sure they see their own blood." Louis continued, the thought of it making him vibrate with anger.
Louis narrowed his eyes, hitting the table gently. "Even if I can’t kill them, I’ll definitely make sure to send Rowan-"
Freya started coughing at the mention of Rowan’s name. Her eyes filled with tears as she continued to cough, bending down as she didn’t know whether to cry or laugh at the moment.
"Are you okay?" Louis asked with a worried tone, going to rub her back. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎
Freya waved her hand, "I’m fine," she tried to stop coughing, now standing up straight. Her father might not know it, but his words meant that he was going to send Rowan to kill Rowan. Because the same person she had slept with before marriage was the same person her father trusted enough to fight for him.
"Don’t hesitate to let me know if any scoundrel tries to get close to you." Louis continued patting his daughter’s back gently. "You have people like Rowan to fight for you and protect you."
