Chapter 262: MOMENT OF CLARITY

As soon as Louis and Rowan left the room, Freya walked back to her bed and slumped. The bed dipped with her weight. She had her head facing the ceiling, her legs touching the floor as she kicked the air mindlessly. She had a lot on her mind, part of it was how to get Rowan off her mind, and another part also involved thinking about Rowan.

The question was simple; Did she enjoy how Rowan touched her body? The simple truth was yes. Did she like how he said things that made her heart flutter? It was still a simple answer of yes. Finally, did she want him to really stop as she had claimed, because she was supposed to be good and wait until marriage? Now, the answer wasn’t so simple because a part of her was in conflict.

Freya turned to the side, bringing the pillow close to her chest. She closed her eyes and inhaled deeply. Her father really had a liking for Rowan. Everyone she loved and cared for liked him and spoke well of him, except her. Why?

"Why?" Freya asked out loud, looking blankly at the pillow. Without realizing it, she inhaled deeply, taking in the scent of Rowan. It always smelled like something close to nature, either rain or moist earth. And it always filled her senses, making her want to feel his rough hands on her breasts. Then when he would slip them into...

"Ah!" Freya gasped, sitting up and pushing the pillow to the side. She had been asking herself why she didn’t like Rowan, and now she was thinking lewd thoughts about him. The girl slapped her cheeks, trying to get her mind working normally again. Rowan had filled her senses, and now she could no longer think straight without thinking about him.

Curling up on the bed, Freya decided to sleep in for the night. It was better not to think about Rowan, or she was going to get herself and her body in trouble. After rolling around in bed for several minutes, trying to get the young man out of her head, Freya found it was impossible. All she could imagine was Rowan pushing her legs to the side while his large body settled between them.

Pushing herself up from the bed, Freya decided to go to the library and read. This time, she wasn’t going to read anything that would make her imagination run wild. She was going to read about adventures and stars, like she did in the past.

Going to her bathroom, the girl washed her face and made her way to the library. By this time, the halls were already clear as everyone had retired for the night. It was late, and Freya was grateful she had passed out during dinner because she didn’t know if she could stand the Queen. When she reached the library, there were no servants at the door. She quietly opened it to avoid waking anyone. She didn’t take a torch because there would be candles inside to help her see.

Descending the stairs, with the only sound being the shuffling of her gown’s hem, Freya had just reached the last step when she heard a familiar sound. It was familiar because she had been in that position before. It was a cry of pleasure coming from inside the library. Freya knew it never ended well for her to see such things, and it would be invading someone’s privacy. Though she was curious to know who was using the library at such an ungodly hour, it was better not to know.

Freya quietly turned, hoping the people wouldn’t hear her leave. But her luck failed her because, when she reached for the stairs, her hand accidentally knocked over a candle stand, which crashed to the cold floor.

"Oh no!" Freya quickly bent down to pick it up, and as she did, the light illuminated the faces of the two people inside the room. Out of shock, Freya dropped the candle again. This time, the wax spilled onto her dress, some of it touching her skin. "Ow!" the girl cried, trying to cover her mouth.

"Freya, are you okay?"

Freya swallowed hard when she heard the voice. She didn’t want to look up. She didn’t know how to face the person she had just seen or what she was supposed to say. She covered her face with her hands.

"I didn’t see anything, I promise. I wasn’t sneaking around. I just wanted to read before going to sleep," Freya babbled, her mind racing. How was she supposed to process what she had just witnessed? 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞

The princess was naked on the table, with another maid on top of her. Freya didn’t know why she was so shocked, but she wanted to run back to her room.

"Freya, it’s okay. I’m glad it was you and not my mother. Now, please stand up," the princess called out.

Freya pressed her lips together, raising her head slowly. When she tried to stand, her knees wobbled, but she steadied them by holding the stair railing.

"P-Princess Lirien," she stuttered, moving back slowly.

Lirien sighed, taking her jacket from the maid and using it to cover her body. She watched Freya closely, waiting for her to scream and make a scene.

"Freya, please..." the princess rubbed her forehead gently with a deep sigh.

Freya slowly raised her eyes, glancing at the princess, then at the maid standing in the corner with her head bowed in guilt and shame.

"I-I’ll act like I didn’t see anything, and just leave. I was never here," Freya said as she turned to go.

"But you did see me," the princess’s voice broke. "You did see me, and this is who I am. I don’t really like men. I like women!" The princess went to sit on the chair by the reading table.

Freya chewed her lower lip. She didn’t know what she was supposed to say in a moment like this, so she just stood there awkwardly.

"Why aren’t you saying anything? Freya, why aren’t you asking me questions? If you say something, I’ll feel better than just seeing you standing there, looking at me like I’m disgusting," the princess spoke up, following Freya’s eyes.

Freya waved her hands, "No... no... I’m just surprised, that’s all. And you were asked to marry Rowan... and then... I just don’t know what to say, but I don’t think you’re disgusting," her voice faded.

The princess stood up and walked over to the maid, kissing her lips. "You can leave. I’ll send for you later."

Freya stood there, trying to keep her eyes anywhere but on the couple. She had a lot on her mind at that moment, and most of all was a small bubble of joy. The princess didn’t like men, which meant she didn’t like Rowan. That meant Freya was allowed to hold onto Rowan without feeling guilty. When Freya realized what she was thinking, she blinked.

Was she really happy that the princess didn’t like Rowan? Why? Because she wanted Rowan for herself... Freya raised her eyes in realization. She didn’t want to share Rowan with anyone else, and that was why she had hated him all this time because she thought she would end up being pushed aside like Princess Jasmine.
