Chapter 10 Feed

"What?" Wei Yunlan was shocked. In this remote place, the most frightening thing was getting sick.

"Ningshuang, find all the typhoid medicine we bought."

Wei Yunlan had just finished speaking when the judge came forward, waving his whip and urging him to go.

"Get out of here, damn it! You all still think you are the young masters and young ladies in the capital? Don't you know where you are?"

"You've missed the time and can't make it to the next inn tonight. Wait till I see how I'll deal with you!"

Every time the whip was swung, there was a crisp "snap" sound. Old Mrs. Feng, who was originally hesitant, was so frightened that she quickly picked up her grandchildren who were refusing to get up.

"The rest of you hurry up and pack your things. I'll go over and take a look."

Wei Yunlan walked quickly towards the mule cart.

In the carriage, Cheng Yue'e held Jiarong in her arms with half-closed eyes and an unnatural flush on her cheeks.

Guixiang said beside her, "It's all my fault. When the night fell yesterday, the eldest young lady's face looked a little off, but when I heard her say that she was tired from traveling, I didn't take it seriously."

"This is not your fault." Wei Yunlan put his hand on Cheng Yue'e's forehead.

"Hiss, it's so hot!"

"Ahem...Yunlan?" Cheng Yue'e opened her eyes dazedly.

Just as he was about to sit up straight and leave more space for Wei Yunlan, he felt dizzy. Before he could move, his back leaned heavily against the back wall of the car.

Wei Yunlan used her hand to block the back of Cheng Yue'e's head, thus preventing her from hitting her head, "Sister-in-law, you are sick."

"I know." Cheng Yue'e looked ashamed. "I'm usually in good health. I don't know what happened this time. I've only been on the road for less than a day and I'm already holding everyone back."

Wei Yunlan knew that people would easily get sick once they relaxed after being under great mental stress and experiencing great ups and downs.

Some time ago, my eldest brother disappeared and my father was imprisoned. Soon after, our house was confiscated and I had to leave the capital. In addition, my mother's family did not come to see me off.

My sister-in-law had just finished her confinement a few days ago and her body was weak. Her anxiety and the long journey caused her accumulated illness to break out all at once.

"Sister-in-law, you don't need to blame yourself. Everyone gets sick. It's not a big deal. Just take good care of yourself and get better soon." Wei Yunlan calmly comforted Cheng Yue'e, but she was actually a little panicked.

Before leaving the capital, she asked Tingxue to buy a lot of medicine, but her sister-in-law's illness was not caused by a simple cold, and she didn't know which medicine would be effective.

"Don't panic." Gao Shi had more experience than Wei Yunlan at this time, "Lan'er, carry Jiarong out first."

"Guixiang, go get a wet towel."

Gao took over from Wei Yunlan and got into the carriage. She first lifted the tightly covered curtain on the side a little, then moved the cushion on the seat, and helped Cheng Yue'e find a comfortable position to half-lie down.

Outside, the officer was still urging the team to get on the road. Gao took the handkerchief handed to her by Guixiang and said to them, "I'll take care of this side. Let's get going and catch up with the team first."

The first three families had already set out, and the officers were about to swing their whips at them, so the Wei family and their group hurried to follow.

A wet towel alone would not be enough to reduce the temperature. Wei Yunlan followed the mule cart with Jiarong in his arms, thinking constantly about what to do.

Suddenly she remembered that in her previous life, when she was wandering in the backyard of the Marquis' Mansion, she saw the maid beside Xue Linglong wiping her body with wine after she had a fever.

They left the city in a hurry, so there was no alcohol or beverage among the things they bought. However, Dong Da, Liu Quan and others might have some, or at worst, the police would definitely have some.

Wei Yunlan temporarily left Jiarong to the care of Nanny Wang and Ningshuang, and took a few quick steps to catch up with Dong Da and Liu Quan.

"I still have half a bag of yellow wine here."

Liu Quan took off the wine bag from his body and handed it to Wei Yunlan, "Young lady, if you need it, take it!"

"Thank you, Uncle Liu." Wei Yunlan returned to the mule cart with the wine bag.

The handkerchief really didn't have much effect. Cheng Yue'e became a little dizzy due to the fever, and Gao was more anxious than before.

Wei Yunlan hurriedly handed over the wine bag and the method of wiping the wine to cool it down.

"Mother, please try this method on my sister-in-law first, and I will think of other ways. It would be best if we could find a doctor to take a look at my sister-in-law."

"It would be great if we could find a doctor, but where can we find one in this remote place?" Gao sighed. "Forget it, I'll try the method you mentioned first. I hope it works."

The team was still moving forward, with Officer Jie escorting Wei Maolin, Lord Liang, and Lord Feng in the front.

Wei Yunlan sent Manager Wang to inquire.

Upon learning that the nearest inn was forty miles away and that it would take at least night to get there, Wei Yunlan's eyes showed a hint of worry.

There was no village in front of this place, no shop behind, and not even a few people were seen, let alone finding a doctor. And changing the route prescribed by the court and going around to the nearest village was even more impossible.

After receiving half a piece of silver, the official finally agreed reluctantly and said he would find a doctor for them when they rested at the inn that night.

The people from the Wei family walked back and forth twice, attracting some attention.

Wei Yunlan had just heard Manager Wang repeat what Officer Jie had said when she saw a sturdy maid walk out from the group of people from the Bai family in front of them and approach them.

"I am a servant serving the old lady, and I know a little bit about medicine. I heard that someone in your house is sick, could you let me go over to take a look?"

Wei Yunlan was overjoyed when she heard this, "Madam, please come in!"

The carriage could only seat two people. Gao had just wiped Cheng Yue'e's chest with a handkerchief dipped in wine when she heard that a woman with medical skills was coming to see her. She quickly straightened her daughter-in-law's clothes and got out of the carriage to make room for her.
