Chapter 39 Acting Cherry Jam
"I won't turn off the live broadcast today. I'm going to make pickled peppers later." Yu Zhile hurriedly explained when he saw the audience sending barrages of farewell.
Back in the courtyard, Zhang Wenxin's cheeks were red from her hurried pace, and she drank cold water in big gulps.
Seeing Yu Zhile return home, Yu Yue put down his book.
Wash cherries, March bubbles and wild peppers in three large wooden basins.
"Wow, soaking in water makes me more appetizing." Zhang Wenxin reached out to stir the water in the basin.
Yu Chi and Pa Pa squatted beside and watched. Her round eyes made her heart soften. She told him in an exaggerated tone how the pheasant jumped into Yu Zhile's arms.
Yu Chi held the small conch in his little hands and listened very attentively.
Seeing this, Yu Zhile stuffed an unripe cherry into his mouth.
Yu Chi subconsciously opened his mouth and chewed. After the sour taste burst out, his face wrinkled, causing her to laugh out loud.
"Delicious." Seeing Yu Zhile smile, he also smiled.
At that time, Zhang Wenxin's story was over.
Yu Zhile poked a drop of water on the tip of his nose with her finger and said, "Xiaobao, can you help me remove the pit? I'll make cherry jam for you."
Yu Chi nodded obediently and brought a small stool.
Wash the cherries, remove the stalks, and use chopsticks to poke the pits out from the bottom.
Gradually, the earthenware jar containing the cherry pulp was filled, and everyone stopped to rest.
Yu Zhile sprinkled half a bowl of sugar into the earthenware jar and asked Zhou Yuesheng to shake it evenly.
Then, she put the washed wild peppers into a bamboo sieve, arranged them neatly, and placed them in a cool place to dry.
"Are you cooking so soon?" Zhang Wenxin asked in confusion when she saw her enter the kitchen.
Yu Zhile poured a bucket of water into the iron pot, lit the fire, and replied, "Make the water for the pickled peppers."
"Pickled peppers?" Zhang Wenxin was very interested. "Pickled vegetables?"
"Pickles are salted vegetables, and pickled peppers are water-pickled vegetables. The process and the final flavor are different," Yu Zhile explained.
She also told Zhang Wenxin about pickles and the essential differences between the three.
As she spoke, the water began to boil. She added spices, rock sugar and salt in turn, stirred them well, and served them out after boiling.
"The water should be cooled, the wild pepper should be dried and the stems removed, soaked in the water, and then ginger and garlic slices should be added, and two cups of sorghum wine should be added to seal the jar." Yu Zhile explained the key points. "The jar must be free of oil and water, otherwise it will get moldy, and moldy means failure."
"Are pickled peppers delicious?" Zhang Wenxin asked.
Yu Zhile smiled and said, "You can eat it in half a month. You can try it then."
"Okay." Zhang Wenxin liked these words that sounded like they indicated their friendship would last a long time.
Then, everyone sat back on the small stools and started to wash the March bubbles.
While washing, Yu Zhile suddenly remembered that he had forgotten to pick the lemons.
"Brother Sheng, please help me pick two sour fruits." She raised the tone of the last word.
Zhou Yuesheng paused, then stood up and went out.
Yu Zhile lowered his head and continued to repeat the scooping and washing actions, not noticing that Yu Chi and Pa Pa, who were squatting under the tree, were gone.
After March had finished soaking and washing, she took out the clay pot, poured in the fruit, and carefully crushed it with a wooden pestle and mortar.
Zhang Wenxin helped add fruits into the pot.
There was a noise at the gate, and she thought Zhou Yuesheng had returned. She looked up and smiled, only to find that the person coming was the postman.
"Yu Zhile, it's me." Gao Liangyi looked apologetic.
The smile on Yu Zhile's face faded, and his brows furrowed. "What are you doing here?"
"I, I'm here to apologize." Gao Liangyi took a step back, lowered his head slightly, and pretended to be frightened by her unfriendly tone. "I just found out about the rumors in the village this morning."
He reached forward and held out the beautifully wrapped gift.
Zhang Wenxin curled her lips and winked at Yu Zhile, telling her not to pay attention to Gao Liangyi.
Yu Zhile put on a haughty attitude and asked back, "Apologize? What kind of apology are you making?"
"It's all my fault. If I hadn't asked random questions, you wouldn't have been misunderstood by the villagers." Gao Liangyi said sincerely. He raised his eyes and looked at Yu Zhile, with a sincere light flashing in his eyes.
Yu Zhile looked at the gleam in his eyes that could not be hidden, and a faint smile appeared on the corner of his mouth.
Gao Liangyi thought that her attitude had softened, and he was delighted, and continued, "These are all cheap Dacron fabrics. I hope you can accept them."
"A worthless thing as an apology?" Yu Zhile said arrogantly.
As soon as he finished speaking, Zhang Wenxin almost laughed out loud, and Yu Yue raised his hand and used the book to cover his smile.
Gao Liangyi was choked by her and his expression froze for a moment. Who doesn't know that Dacron is the most popular fabric in the provincial capital nowadays?
"Although this is the new Dacron fabric from the provincial capital, I personally think it is not worthy of you." He pretended to be affectionate, "I hope you don't mind. Next month I will send you the latest skirt from Beijing."
Then, he climbed up the pole: "I heard that your marriage was arranged by your elders. As a progressive youth, you should bravely reject this ignorant traditional practice. As a fellow new youth, I am willing to make progress with you."
"Make progress together?" Zhou Yuesheng stood outside the door and repeated his words in a low voice with a half-smile on his face.
Yu Zhile smiled brightly at Zhou Yuesheng: "Thank you for your hard work!"
When she turned to look at Gao Liangyi, her expression turned cold: "Go away, I don't want your apology."
"Have you been coerced by him? Don't be afraid, resist bravely." Gao Liangyi looked excited.
Zhang Wenxin had a strange expression on her face. Now she felt that Gao Liangyi was not only born with an ominous appearance, but also that there were some problems with his brain and eyes.
"If you have any problems, go see a doctor." Yu Zhile rolled his eyes slightly.
Gao Liangyi could hardly hold back his temper, still pretending to be heartbroken, and said something to alienate her: "Even if it's a marriage arranged by your parents, you can't be so casual. He obviously has so many places to go, but he insists on living in your house. He, he doesn't cherish you so much, why are you still devoted to her?"
Meet the parents, apply for marriage, take photos, get the marriage certificate, and hold the wedding banquet.
A series of procedures for his comrades-in-arms to get married emerged in Zhou Yuesheng’s mind.
"Were you not informed about the fall of the Qing Dynasty?" Yu Zhile suddenly remembered a meme.
Gao Liangyi was stunned. He knew each one of them, but when they were put together, he had no idea what was going on.
"Brother Sheng, kick him out." Yu Zhile was too lazy to deal with him.
Zhou Yuesheng's aura suddenly changed, his muscles tensed, and his eyes were a little gloomy.
"I, I'm leaving now." Gao Liangyi inevitably recalled some of his deeds and shuddered, "But every word I said is sincere. I hope you can think carefully about your future."
Having said that, he ran out the door in a hurry.
When he walked out of the door, his sincere look disappeared and his eyes were full of calculation.
In just a few minutes, he saw several faces of Yu Zhile, and his desire to conquer him became even stronger.
Until Gao Liangyi's figure disappeared at the end of the path, Zhang Wenxin clapped his hands and cheered: "This is so funny, we have to teach him a lesson, I saw that he was so embarrassed just now."
Then, she sneered, "My classmates felt sorry for him before, but now it seems like a waste of conscience. He actually wanted to use public opinion to control a girl. Fortunately, it was you, otherwise others would definitely fall into his trap."
"This is just the beginning." Yu Zhile smiled.
Just as Zhang Zhenhua was planning to take her father's belongings, Gao Liangyi came and shouted that he would save her from the dire straits.
They really took her for a fool.
"Come to think of it, was this how he drove the sister of his last fiancée crazy?" Zhang Wenxin suddenly thought of something and his face turned bad.
She remembered that the girl was a good student with excellent character and academic performance. If her life was really ruined because of Gao Liangyi, then he would be committing a crime upon crime and it was unforgivable.
The more Zhang Wenxin thought about it, the angrier she became.
Yu Zhile was thinking about his next plan and replied, "Someone will investigate him. He did it and he will never get away with it."
As she spoke, she glanced down the path.
Zhou Yuesheng subconsciously squeezed the lemon.
The subtle, green fragrance spreads quietly in the courtyard.
"Okay, let's make jam!" Yu Zhile clapped his hands, bringing the atmosphere back to normal.
Zhang Wenxin had an inexplicable sense of trust in Zhile. She put all her emotions behind her, cheered herself up, and helped her move the clay pot into the kitchen.
"The little housekeeper was great today too!" Yu Zhile did not forget Xiaoyun's advice.
She touched the back of Zhou Yuesheng's hand and took the lemon from him.
Zhou Yuesheng looked at her back for a few seconds, then walked over to Yu Yue and said, "Let's go out tonight."
"Okay." Yu Yue flipped the pages of the book without raising his head.
Yu Zhile lit a fire and slowly stirred the March bubble paste, saying, "Low heat, stir frequently to avoid burning the pot."
The moisture in the fruit paste gradually evaporates and begins to thicken.
Yu Zhile handed the bamboo spatula to Zhang Wenxin, who cut the lemon into one-eighth pieces and removed the seeds to make it easier to squeeze out the juice.
"Do we really want to add sour juice?" Zhang Wenxin didn't dare to use force with her fingertips for fear of ruining the whole pot.
"Add it, don't be afraid." Yu Zhile turned around to get the sugar.
Lemon juice drips into the red jam. As it is stirred, the white sugar gradually disappears, and then a sour and sweet smell fills the air.
[Saliva begins to be secreted today. 】
[Added to nutrient solution, I drink 800 sticks in one meal. ]
【I want to buy, I want to buy, I want to buy. 】
Yu Zhile looked at the comments and said with a smile: "You can soak it in water or spread it on steamed buns and eat it."
As he spoke, the red jam made a popping sound.
Yu Zhile took the clay pot aside to cool, and then used the same steps to cook the cherry jam.
The light and light jams put together are more pleasing to the eye.
As the jam cools, it becomes thicker and has a stronger, sweet and sour flavor.
"Xiaobao, come here and have a taste." Yu Zhile held up the chopsticks dipped in jam and walked around to the other side of the fruit tree.
There was no sign of Yu Chi or Pa Pa, only the sharp stones he usually carved were neatly arranged under the tree roots.
She went to the backyard again, but still couldn't find Yu Chi.
"When did Xiaobao run away?" Yu Zhile frowned and recalled.
When she thought of the human trafficking cases she had seen before, her hands couldn't stop shaking and her eyes turned red.
When Zhou Yuesheng went out, he was clearly still playing with stones under the tree.
Yu Yue and Zhang Wenxin looked at each other in bewilderment. They paid no attention to Xiaobao's behavior at all.
"I'll go look by the river." Zhou Yuesheng immediately thought of a place.
Before he could take the first step, Chen Zhao appeared at the corner of the path, carrying Yu Chi on his back, crawling and dragging a big fat rabbit.
