Chapter 2 A Dangerous Mission

“Dangdangdang!”

Zhao Muyun had finished chopping another pile of firewood and was about to wipe the sweat from his forehead when the iron pot in the pier rang.

This is the signal for an emergency assembly in Dunli!

Zhao Muyun calmly put down the axe and hurried over.

In the open space in the middle of the beacon tower, squad leader Zhang Biao stood with his hands behind his back, expressionless.

Nine soldiers had already hurried over from all directions and quickly stood in a row.

When Wang Tiezhu saw Zhao Muyun coming, his eyes were full of worry.

When Zhao Muyun joined the team, Zhang Biao glanced at everyone, coughed lightly, and raised his voice to speak:

"Everyone, we just received a military order from the captain, asking us at Yanqingdun to send someone out of the fort to patrol the buffer zone and scout out the enemy situation."

Patrol out of the fort?

After hearing this, everyone started whispering to each other and became timid, fearing that Zhang Biao would assign this dangerous task to them.

Among them, there were one or two people who remained unmoved.

It seems that they already know who Zhang Biao will send out.

"Captain Zhang, there are already many Northern Di cavalrymen near the buffer zone. It's very dangerous to go out now. You might even lose your life!"

A man with a shrewd face and a scar on his cheek then spoke loudly.

This man's name is Tang Yanhai, and he is a scout assigned to the Yanqingdun Beacon Tower by the Jingbian Military Town.

In the entire beacon tower, he was the only one who was equipped with a war horse.

When he heard that people were going to be sent out for patrol, he thought without thinking that Zhang Biao was going to send him as a scout, and he immediately cried out in complaint.

"Guarding the borders and defending the land is the duty of Dayin's soldiers. How can we be so afraid of death?"

"Besides, this is an order from the captain. I have no choice but to obey."

Zhang Biao stroked his beard, his eyes rolling, looking towards Zhao Muyun with ill intent, "But there's no need for you, Old Tang, to take action this time!"

Tang Yanhai breathed a sigh of relief, but he was also confused.

What is this Zhang Tou singing about?

If we don't use him as a scout to go out, then we have to let other soldiers go out?

Two new recruits and six veterans, if they encounter the cavalry of the Northern Di Tartars, whoever goes will be courting death!

Then, Zhang Biao raised his voice and said loudly with a serious face:

"Raise an army for a thousand days and deploy it for a moment!"

"Zhao Muyun, Wang Tiezhu, you two have been in Yanqingdun for three months now. It's time to take your talents out for a walk!"

"This border patrol mission out of the fort is now left to you two!"

"Military orders are as heavy as a mountain. Grab your weapons and set off immediately. No mistakes are allowed, or you will be punished by military law!"

What!

Everyone instantly looked at them with sympathy, as if they were looking at two dying people.

Wang Tiezhu was stunned.

He was still worried about Zhao Muyun just now, but he never expected that he would also be an unlucky guy.

"Zhang...Zhangtou, you asked me to...I should go on patrol too, this..."

Wang Tiezhu stuttered and spoke incoherently.

"What's the problem? Do you still want to disobey orders?" Zhang Biao said coldly with a look of disgust.

While Wang Tiezhu was still confused, Zhao Muyun had already noticed that Wang Tiezhu's action of secretly running to remind him must have been seen by someone and reported to Zhang Biao.

There were actually people who dared to do something tricky under his nose. Zhang Biao would naturally never allow it!

"What? You don't want to? Anyone who disobeys orders from their superiors and retreats in battle will be beheaded in public."

Zhang Biao emphasized it again loudly, but his eyes glanced at Zhao Muyun.

He thought Zhao Muyun would be panicking, but he was calm and composed. He was secretly shocked: How could this kid be so calm? Is he stupid or not afraid of death?

snort!

No matter what happens to you, you’re lucky if you can come back alive this time!

If I die outside, I will not be polite to you when your compensation comes.

At this moment, Zhao Muyun took a step forward and said loudly:

"Who said we don't want to? Wang Tiezhu and I will obey your orders and leave the fort to patrol the border immediately!"

Everyone looked at Zhao Muyun in surprise.

Anyone with a discerning eye knew that Zhang Biao had sent him out on purpose, and he had to at least make some excuses, but he didn't expect that this guy would take the order without saying a word.

Zhang Biao looked at Zhao Muyun in amazement: "Very good, it's getting late, let's set off immediately!"

Zhao Muyun smiled, pulled Wang Tiezhu, whose eyes were dull, and turned to leave.

"These two guys, maybe I'll have to collect their bodies!"

Tang Yanhai sneered.

Although Zhao Muyun is a brave boy, that place is the border of Dayin, and there are ferocious Northern Di Tartars.

It's very dangerous!

......

Bang!

The gate of the beacon tower was closed coldly and mercilessly as soon as Zhao Muyun and Wang Tiezhu stepped out of the door.

The two new recruits whose lives were in danger and the other people at the Yanqingdun Beacon Tower seemed to be from two different worlds.

What's more, they are the ones that squad leader Zhang Biao dislikes.

I guess few people care about their life or death.

The two men carried long white wax spears that were a meter long, and walked one in front and one behind, along the Zishui River Valley next to the beacon tower, taking one step deep and one step shallow, heading north.

After walking for an hour, they arrived at the designated patrol location, the temporary boundary marker between Dayin and Beidi buffer zone.

Wild grass half a man's height stretched for miles.

A gust of wind blew, like rolling waves.

"Ancestors, please bless us and let us return to the beacon tower safely. Please don't run into the Northern Di Tartars!"

Wang Tiezhu was nervous all the way and kept muttering to himself, but when he saw that he had arrived at his destination, he relaxed a lot.

But Zhao Muyun was somewhat bored and looked disappointed.
