Zhigu Pass is a checkpoint northeast of Feihu Ridge.
The straight-line distance from here to Feihu Ridge is twenty miles.
The city of Weizhou is fifteen miles south of Zhigu Pass.
The Laishui River originates from Feihu Ridge and winds its way through the plains of the Yuzhou Valley. It first flows north to Zhigu Pass, then makes a big turn and circles Yuzhou City to the south.
Finally, it merges into the Sanggan River ten miles southeast of Weizhou City.
At the beginning, Tong Gu, the commander of the Weizhou army, also stationed troops at Zhigu Pass.
But King Zhelan's army swarmed down from Yunzhou like a tide, and Zhigu Pass was like a small boat in the sea, unable to resist the army of seven or eight thousand Tartars.
So Tong Gu decisively gathered his troops back to Weizhou City and used the city's strategic location for defense.
Afterwards, Pei Lun mobilized nearly 20,000 people from ten Zhechoufu on Hedong Road and fought several fierce battles with King Zhelan between Zhigu Pass and Weizhou.
Pei Lun relied on the tenacity of the Hedong army and the powerful equipment and machinery to fight back and forth with King Zhelan.
It seemed that if he could hold out for another month, King Zhelan would return empty-handed and would be forced to retreat, just like the last time in Shuozhou.
However, a captain under Pei Lun believed that the Tartars had been fighting for a long time and their morale was low, so he suggested taking the initiative to attack.
The cautious Pei Lun was also full of confidence after a month of confrontation, and immediately agreed to line up the entire army for a decisive battle with King Zhelan.
But things did not go as planned. Dayin took the initiative to fight, allowing King Zhelan to seize the opportunity.
The two sides deployed their troops on the south bank of Laishui River and attacked each other.
The result is obvious. Pei Lun was defeated and lost tens of thousands of soldiers.
The remaining 10,000 people fled into the defensive city of Weizhou and stayed inside the city, refusing to leave.
King Zhelan pursued the victory and surrounded Weizhou.
Pei Lun appointed Tong Gu as the commander of the army before the battle, but he himself took the opportunity to leave by pretending to go to Jinyang to seek reinforcements.
However, there were only four or five thousand soldiers in Jinyang City, so Pei Lun didn't dare to rush in to rescue them.
It just so happened that Zhao Muyun won a great victory in Yinzhou and killed a silver-armored Tartar in battle, and Tian Zun, the governor of Guannei Road, came to ask for help again.
Therefore, Pei Lun took advantage of Zhao Muyun's meritorious service and pushed Zhao Muyun to the throne of Pinglu Cavalry Captain.
He also proposed to the court the suggestion that "to maintain external peace, one must first defend the country from the inside."
Faced with the rebels and the Tartars, Emperor Yongchang and the cabinet elders unanimously chose to prioritize suppressing the rebels.
Pei Lun's defeat in Weizhou was not pursued, and he was promoted to the rank of Vice Minister of War as a reward, hoping that he could work with Tian Zun to put down Li Jingang's rebel army.
However, Tian Zun and Pei Lun were defeated in Yuzhou City.
The imperial court had no choice but to dispatch troops from the capital and send General Li Chenghua to quell the rebellion.
Zhao Muyun's understanding of the ins and outs of the battle of Weizhou helped his military operations.
So, Zhao Muyun raised troops from Yin, Shuo and Yan states, and after burning Feihu Ridge, he was not in a hurry to relieve Weizhou, but waited for the Tartar army from the south of the desert to arrive first!
Now, after waiting for more than ten days, the army of the Tartars in the south of the desert finally entered Weizhou, passed Zhigu Pass, and came out from Feihukou.
It was previously inferred that the 10,000-strong Tatar army might first meet King Zhelan outside the city of Weizhou.
But unexpectedly, they did not go outside Weizhou City, but went straight to Feihukou.
"Haha, the wait is finally here!"
After hearing Wang Tiezhu's report, Zhao Muyun burst into laughter.
We have been waiting for so many days just to wait for this group of Tartars to arrive.
Otherwise, wouldn’t it be a waste for the fortifications that Zhong Dahu, Du Wei and 2,500 people worked so hard to build?
Isn't it a waste of talent for Lin Feng to bring a thousand soldiers to dig up the landslide lake?
"Hurry up and notify the leaders of Zhong, Du, Lin, Wu, Tian and other departments to come to the big tent for a meeting." Zhao Muyun asked Li Si and other guards to go and notify them quickly.
An hour ago, these commanders were discussing important matters in the big tent and should not have gone far.
Li Si and others responded and left.
After Wang Tiezhu reported the intelligence, he naturally had to stay and attend the meeting.
He glanced at Song Liu standing beside him and said disdainfully, "Brother Zhao, what on earth do censors do? We're about to have a military meeting, why are they still standing here?"
"The Censor is very powerful! He monitors our every move and reports to the current emperor at any time." Zhao Muyun said lightly.
Song Liu's mouth still had the mud that Wang Tiezhu had just thrown up on his clothes. He shouted angrily at Zhao Muyun:
"General Zhao, this soldier just now was disrespectful to me and the court. I ask you to strictly manage him and punish him."
"When Yin joined the army, didn't I ask you to take him out, let him see around the barracks and understand the hardships of the frontline soldiers? If you can't do it, then I'll find someone else."
Zhao Muyun ignored Song Liu's anger and just gave orders to Yinji calmly.
"Censor Song, please leave here first! Otherwise, if the commotion continues, it will be embarrassing for everyone!"
Yinji didn't have a good face towards Song Liu.
If it weren't for Song Liu, he would have been able to participate in the subsequent military meeting and listen to Zhao Muyun's deployment of troops and gain a lot.
But now he had to accompany this Censor Song everywhere, so Yinji was naturally dissatisfied.
When Song Liu saw Yin Ji coming to ask him to leave, he had to put aside his arrogance and leave reluctantly.
Zhao Muyun had no background at all, but he was promoted from a small soldier in the border army to the captain of seven prefectures, all thanks to his military achievements and killing enemies.
But Yinji is different. He is the legitimate son of the current ninth prince and is quite loved by Emperor Yongchang.
Moreover, it is said that the current crown prince has no heir and wanted to adopt Yinji as his son to inherit the throne in the future.
Based on these identities and backgrounds, Song Liu has no status in front of Yin Ji.
But Yinji called Zhao Muyun his master.
The complicated relationship made Song Liu's mind a little confused.
"Prince Yin, how could Zhao Muyun protect his subordinates like this? Is his military discipline so lax?"
