Chapter 60 Xichuan Grassland

Three days later.

Zhao Muyun walked north along the grassland east of the river for more than a hundred miles and arrived at the Xichuan grassland mentioned by Bai Shouren.

The wonders of nature are fully demonstrated here.

To the west of the Xichuan grassland, along the north bank of the river, there is a vast Gobi desert with yellow sand filling the sky.

Looking far to the north, the tall and majestic Daqing Mountain appears before your eyes like a giant dragon.

It stretches for thousands of miles from east to west, with no end in sight.

The terrain is gentle in the north and steep in the south, with dark blue mountains, jagged and rugged, and one peak after another.

The scenery here is completely different from the Shuozhou where Zhao Muyun lived before.

Although there is a desert Gobi to the west, the vast area from Xichuan Grassland to the east and Daqing Mountain to the south to Heituo Mountain, Hongtao Mountain and Zishui River in Shuozhou, Hedong Road, is rich in water and grass and has a pleasant climate.

That is because the Daqing Mountains block the cold air from the desert and plateau, and the large rivers and tributaries originating from the Heituo Mountains, Hongtao Mountains, Daqing Mountains and other mountains nourish this land at the same time.

The Daqing Mountains were originally a natural barrier for Dayin to defend against the nomadic peoples of the desert, and were also the dividing line between agricultural civilization and grassland civilization.

In the early days of the founding of Dayin, three prefectures, Yunzhou, Fengzhou and Shengzhou, were established here to accommodate the surrendered grassland tribes, station troops and cultivate land, and relocate tens of thousands of Dayin people to settle here.

However, just one hundred years ago, a new force in the desert, Beidi, rose up, established a regime and unified the grassland, and began to covet Dayin.

On the contrary, due to an unprecedented civil strife, the Dayin court transferred the capable and battle-hardened border troops back to the interior to quell the rebellion, giving the northern barbarians an opportunity to take advantage.

King Zhelan took advantage of the lack of military forces in Yun, Feng and Sheng prefectures and started a rebellion with thirteen sets of armor. He killed local officials of Dayin in Yun, Feng and Sheng prefectures and drove away or enslaved tens of thousands of Han people in the three prefectures.

They declared this place the territory of the Beidi people and submitted to the Beidi Chanyu, who lived north of the Daqing Mountains, and accepted his rule.

The Chanyu of Beidi was overjoyed and gave King Zhelan weapons, flags, and seals, recognizing his autonomy here.

With the support of the Northern Di and the fertile land and territory of Yun, Feng and Sheng prefectures, King Zhelan became increasingly powerful. He had tens of thousands of households and tens of thousands of cavalry under his command, becoming one of the most powerful kings appointed by the Northern Di.

Dayin experienced a great chaos, which caused serious damage and the national strength declined.

By the time they discovered that Yun, Feng and Sheng prefectures had fallen to the Northern Di Tartars, it was already too late.

He organized several wars to recover lost territory, but not only did they fail, but he also suffered heavy casualties.

From then on, Dayin had no choice but to accept reality and retreat its defense line to Piantou Pass - Heituo Mountain - Zishui River - Hongtao Mountain, handing over tens of thousands of square kilometers of territory north of Shuozhou.

They also erected a boundary marker thirty miles north of the Zishui River to designate it as a buffer zone, and suffered humiliation.

"Sergeant Zhao, in front of us is the Daqing Mountains, on the left is the desert, and on the right is the Xichuan grassland."

"Our current route is along the edge of the desert and grassland, to the foot of the Daqing Mountains, and then we can head west."

"After walking another two hundred miles, we will reach the western edge of the Daqing Mountains."

Bai Shouren wiped the sweat from his head, came to Zhao Muyun and spoke softly.

At this moment, he no longer dared to make any rash moves, for fear of revealing in front of Zhao Muyun the slightest sign that he intended to kill him.

He now had no choice but to wait for the arrival of the cavalry sent by Timur.

Because after Zhao Muyun and his men turned back and killed the first Tartar from the Northern Di tribe, burned their tents, and stole their horses and supplies, things got out of control.

In just three days, they attacked five Tatar tribes of similar size along the way, burned their tents, stole hundreds of horses and countless supplies, and left hundreds of Tatar women and children homeless.

All the young Tartars in the tribe who were taller than the wheels of a wheel were killed; and all the old Tartars were killed.

Zhao Muyun and his ten men became more and more excited and skilled as the more they killed.

Their hands were covered in blood, and each of them had at least ten Tartar lives on their hands, like the deadly devils from hell.

Not only was Bai Shouren unable to sell any of his goods, but his caravan also had more than ten extra horses and countless sheepskins, all of which were forced upon him by Zhao Muyun at low prices, and he had no choice but to accept them.

Bai Shouren already owed Zhao Muyun and the others more than five hundred taels of silver.

If this continues, all the small Tatar tribes south of the Daqing Mountains will be wiped out by them.

Moreover, the Bai family will never be able to do business here again in the future.

"Second Master Bai, I think we can continue to cooperate deeply after this trip is over!"

"It's only been three days, and you've already made a fortune. You can resell the things we sell you back in Shuozhou and make several times the profit!"

Zhao Muyun glanced at Bai Shouren and said jokingly.

He did not forget the reminder given to him by the young lady of the Bai family who was rescued outside Shuozhou City. He had people keep an eye on Bai Shouren and remain vigilant against him along the way.

However, after Zhao Muyun and others burned, killed and looted five or six small Tartar tribes, Bai Shouren became much more honest and low-key.

Zhao Muyun always answered any request and did not dare to disobey.

"Captain Zhao, you've messed up the Tartar tribe like this. Aren't you afraid the Tartars will come after us?"

Bai Shouren said cautiously, "This Xichuan grassland is deep behind the Tartars. I'm afraid there will be a large number of Tartar cavalry!"

He had previously sent someone to deliver a letter to Timur, agreeing to take action at a location on the Xichuan grassland. Now he emphasized it again, obviously wanting to clear himself of any responsibility.
