"Your Highness!" an old general hurriedly advised, "The Yin army's sudden attack may be a trap. We should hold the camp and wait to ascertain the truth..."
"What are you waiting for!"
Wuhan kicked over the table, saying, "If there's a fire in the camp, the Southerners will surely think my army is undisciplined and want to take advantage of the situation."
"I will show them that even if the eagle of the grasslands has its feathers broken, it is not something that chickens can bully!"
"King Xiutu, take five thousand cavalry and annihilate them all! If even one escapes, bring me your head!"
"Your Highness, rest assured, I will make sure they never return."
Amidst the mournful sound of horns, the gates of the Northern Barbarian camp swung open.
King Xiutu led 5,000 cavalrymen out and charged straight at Murong Chunhua's troops.
"They're here," Murong Chunhua sneered. "Fight and retreat simultaneously!"
Three thousand light cavalry turned their horses around and galloped eastward.
They moved at a steady pace, always keeping an arrow's distance from their pursuers, occasionally turning back to fire arrows, neither letting the Northern Di catch up nor allowing them to give up.
King Xiutu chased for five miles, but gradually realized something was wrong.
The Yin army cavalry always seemed to be a step ahead of him; every time he was about to catch up, the enemy would accelerate and widen the gap again.
Moreover, the retreating formation remained intact throughout, showing no signs of collapse.
"Your Majesty, there may be an ambush!" the lieutenant warned.
King Xiutu reined in his horse and squinted as he looked eastward.
Ten miles ahead, two mountains stand side by side, forming a narrow mountain pass.
He remembered that it was marked on the map as "Broken Heart Valley".
"Broken Heart Valley..." King Xiutu pondered, "Your Highness said that the Yin Army once ambushed our army here. Could they repeat the same trick?"
Just as he was about to order a halt to the pursuit, a sudden change occurred ahead.
Among Huan Wu's troops, a warhorse was startled for some unknown reason and threw the rider off its back.
The cavalryman got up and tried to catch up with the group, but he twisted his ankle and limped.
The entire Yin army was thus somewhat disorganized and slowed down.
"An opportunity!" A fierce glint flashed in King Xiutu's eyes. "All troops, charge! Take advantage of their disarray and annihilate them in one fell swoop!"
Five thousand Northern Di cavalrymen roared and accelerated their charge.
They saw signs of “defeat” – the fallen cavalryman was pulled back onto his horse by his comrades, but the entire column was no longer as orderly as before.
Murong Chunhua immediately shouted in a panic, "Quick! Get into the valley! It'll be safe once we're in the valley!"
Three thousand light cavalrymen fled in a sorry state into the entrance of Broken Heart Valley.
King Xiutu pursued them to the valley entrance, where he reined in his horse once more.
He stared into the deep valley, alarm bells ringing in his mind.
His intuition told him that this terrain was perfect for an ambush.
But just then, screams of panic came from the valley: "Run! There's no way out!"
"They've stopped! The pursuers have stopped!"
"May Heaven bless the Great Yin! The Northern Di have chickened out!"
These shouts were in the Dayin language, but luckily there were guides in the Xiutu King's army who understood the Dayin language, and they immediately translated them.
King Xiutu's face instantly turned red.
If he backs down after being ridiculed by Yin Jun, where will his prestige be?
"Your Majesty, you mustn't..." the lieutenant tried to dissuade him.
"Shut up!" King Xiutu roared. "If the Yin army had an ambush, they would have launched it long ago! They're just bluffing to scare us away! Order the entire army to enter the valley, leave no one alive!"
"But……"
"Those who disobey will be executed!"
Five thousand Northern Di cavalrymen surged into Broken Heart Valley like a flood.
