You resist the darkness, I protect you

When Meng Qixi was a child, the part he looked forward to most every day was the goodnight story before going to bed. In the beginning, it was Zhu Jing who told the story, but later, after Meng Fangyan semi-retired from SHADOW, this burden fell on him.

Maybe it was because little Qi Xi inherited his father's masculine nature. Since Meng Fangyan took over the goodnight story, he only listened for two days and no longer wanted to listen to his mother's gentle fairy tales.

Meng Fangyan found it funny. One time, he leaned over the head of his bed and teased him, "Aren't your mother's stories good? Her voice is so gentle. I'm so envious of you standing outside the door. Don't listen to them, leave them for me."

Meng Qixi nodded, then shook her head. "There's nothing wrong with Mom's stories, but Dad's stories are more exciting."

"Where did you learn the word 'stimulation'?" Meng Fangyan asked with a raised eyebrow.

"You," Meng Qixi said without blinking, "you always say this word to your mother."

The God of War turned his head away and coughed lightly, "...children, don't imitate adults' speech."

"Dad, please tell me a story quickly," the child said, putting his hands behind his head and leaning back on the pillow. "I want to continue listening to Uncle Death's story."

"What's so good about Uncle Death's story? Isn't Dad's story better?"

"I'm tired of hearing Dad's stories," Meng Qixi began counting on his fingers. "You always tell the same few stories, the casino horror, the rural explosion, the bridge ambush... I can recite them all..."

Meng Fangyan was choked by his son. "Don't talk nonsense. Dad has more than just these stories."

"I want to hear how Uncle Death and Aunt Fire Kiss escaped from the eight secret rooms..." Meng Qixi completely ignored his father who was begging for attention and waved his hand, "You just talked about the second secret room yesterday..."

Meng Fangyan talked until his lips were dry, answering a hundred thousand questions while telling stories. Only when his mouth was dry did the child come out of his extreme excitement and droop his eyes to prepare for sleep. He persuaded the child to continue telling other stories about death tomorrow, and only then was the child willing to let go of his hand completely and fall into a deep sleep.

When he left Meng Qixi's bedroom, he saw Zhu Jing holding a cup and handing it to him with a faint smile.

"Wife," Meng Fangyan drank all the water in the cup in one gulp and kissed her hard on the lips, "I beg you, I'll switch with you tomorrow night. You go tell him stories. I really can't do anything with him."

Zhu Jing smiled so hard that her eyes curved. "You deserve it. Who told you to tell him all those stories? And then you told him all those stories about fighting and killing. He liked them, and now you can't escape."

"Well, the storytelling doesn't really matter. Who told him not to listen to my story but Thanatos's? Does he think his father isn't awesome enough? When I was dominating the world, Thanatos was playing in the mud somewhere."

"Okay, okay," she patted the older man who always liked to compete with others. "You're the best, okay? Go to bed. Don't you have to help deliver supplies to the epidemic-stricken areas tomorrow?"

The two walked up the stairs together, and Meng Fangyan suddenly picked her up and spun her around.

"What are you doing?" She smiled and patted his shoulder. "Stop turning. I feel dizzy."

"Wife, I might have to trouble you to take care of Qi Xi at home alone for the next few days," he put her down, rested his forehead against hers, and said with a serious face, "This epidemic is serious. I must do my best to transport more supplies to help the people there, and help allocate the use of supplies. The disaster area itself is short of volunteers, so the more we at SHADOW can do, the better. I don't want to see so many innocent people lose their lives and their families."

"Don't tell me this," she lowered her eyes. "This is your duty. It's what you should do. If I hadn't been so busy with the hospital these past two days, I would have gone with you."

He smiled and said, "You, woman, are really not afraid of death at all."

She also smiled, "I learned from you. Without you, more people in this world would have left in darkness."

So, just go ahead and resist the darkness and protect this world.

And I will protect you.

Due to the severity of the epidemic, Qu Xianang has not had a good night's sleep for almost a week.

Although he was at home, he never interrupted the telephone and video conferences with other senior executives of the Kerber Palace and medical experts. He originally asked Ling Hua to accompany the child upstairs to rest, but how could she bear to let him work so hard alone? She drove the child to Ling Mu's house without saying anything, and then firmly accompanied him to work hard day and night to arrange strategic plans.

It was the middle of the night again. He had just finished a call with a medical expert and finally had time to drink some water. He leaned against the kitchen, drinking water and thinking about problems, and didn't notice that she had also entered the kitchen.

"You should go get some sleep," Ling Hua said as she walked up to him and gently stroked his furrowed brow. "I can take your place in the meeting with the others. I've written down everything Dr. Lu said just now, so there won't be any mistakes."

He suddenly realized her approaching, and without a word he put down the cup and hugged her in his arms, "Xiao Hua, I can't sleep."

How could he possibly sleep? The moment he closed his eyes, he would think of the patients suffering from their illnesses, the medical staff working day and night... As long as he thought of these, he would never feel sleepy again.

"Everything will be fine," she patted his back gently. "We've found effective medicine these days that can suppress the condition. Just hold on for a few more days, and I believe things will get better and better."

"Chase, listen to me," she said, pulling away from his embrace and gazing into his red eyes from staying up late. "If even you fall ill from exhaustion, there will be no one left to lead us to victory in this battle."

Qu Xianang moved his lips and wanted to say something, but she stopped him with a gentle kiss.

His eyelashes trembled slightly, and after two seconds, he took the kiss a little deeper.

"Okay," he finally nodded after he let go of her, "Then I'll go to sleep for an hour. You have to wake me up when the time comes."

Ling Hua smiled, "Be good."

"Don't worry," she said softly, not until she sent him upstairs and watched him lie down in bed, did she breathe a sigh of relief. "I will do my duty as the First Lady, even better than you."

"Okay," his brows slowly relaxed and he smiled faintly, "I believe you."

You and I, hand in hand, will be invincible.
