Chapter 4 Team Assignment

I listened to the daily broadcast: "Today is February 9th, Year Two of the Counterattack Era. Reporting on today's battlefield situation. Located directly below the Hanging Gardens, on the Nittus Plateau in Central Asia, a construct force led by the Cerberus Squad launched an encirclement and annihilation operation against what is believed to be the center of Pamishi. They have failed, losing 70% of their combat power, a total of 179 constructs and 12 commanders. This battle has caused heavy losses for the Hanging Gardens. Vera, captain of the Cerberus Squad, may face court-martial. In memory of the deceased, all this is for humanity."

Nice looked at me and said, "Hua Qi, three years have passed so quickly? We are going to the battlefield too." A young man with yellow curly hair started talking to me.

He was my best friend during my three years at Faos Academy.

Nice said pessimistically, "The death toll reported recently has been increasing. The war situation is becoming increasingly pessimistic. Our bases on the ground are almost being breached one by one. Can we humans truly win in the end?"

I felt like laughing when I heard him say, "Nice, how long has it been since the Great Crisis? You didn't even bother with this issue before, so what's wrong now? Have you lost confidence?"

Nice touched his head and smiled awkwardly: "I'm sorry, I'm just afraid of losing. Go report to the team quickly! I heard that the team you reported to should be the most dangerous. Don't die in front of me. The training in Faos Academy is like risking your life. I know you want to return to your hometown. You must know that your team is a vanguard force. It is called the abandoned team like the three-headed dog because the missions before this team are the most dangerous. You must be careful. You are my only friend in Kowloon. I, a person from the European Union, still cherish you. Okay, I won't say anymore. Bye." Nice smiled bitterly and left. I waved to his back and turned back to walk out of Faos Academy.

During these three years of training, my results were not the best, but I definitely trained the hardest. Perhaps my tenacious perseverance is the reason why I was able to join this team.

I was walking on a green path. The green area of the sky garden was very large and the air was of very high quality. The floor was cleaned by robots every day so well that you could look in the mirror. But I was still very nervous. I didn't know what the structural team members I led would be like.

Suddenly, a message came: "Commander Huaqi, please go to the Star of Life to claim the team's construct."

The Star of Life is the largest medical institution in the Sky Garden. It can treat not only humans but also constructs. Although it is a bit strange why I was asked to go there, I had no choice but to go to the Star of Life.

I looked at the woman in front of me and said, "Hello, nice to see you again, Lisette."

A woman in a white coat pointed and said, "All your team members are in there. They were called out on a mission yesterday. One of the constructs was injured, so they can only stay in the Star of Life."

The woman whispered in my ear again, "Their commander has two humans and a construct. Neither of the humans survived more than a week, and the construct also died last week on the Nitus Plateau. So, Huaqi, don't die too quickly. There are too many bloody medals coming out of here, and the more you have, the tighter the knot in your heart becomes."

I looked at Dr. Lisette's sad face and couldn't help but feel nervous. I walked inside and saw a male constructor lying on a bed with two female constructors standing beside him. The male constructor's right arm seemed to be broken and they were installing a new one.

A white-haired construct noticed me and realized that I was their new commander. He pulled the corner of the black-haired construct's clothes. The black-haired construct reacted and looked at me, but then lowered his head.

The white-haired construct was a little embarrassed and began to introduce himself: "...Hello, I'm Liv, the black-haired girl is Lucia, and the one lying injured in the bed is Li. We are very happy to have you as our new commander."

I called out their names. "Lucia, Liv, Lee. I remember them. When will he be discharged?"

Liv thought for a moment and said, "It'll only take about an hour. It's very easy to treat damage to the construct's body." I nodded slightly after listening and said we'll gather at the team base later.

More than an hour later, they arrived, and Lucia still kept her head down.

Li took the initiative to say: "You are our commander, so I hope you will take good care of us in the future."

I quickly greeted them, "Haha! Everyone, too. Today I'm meeting you all as the new commander. From now on, command of the team will be in my hands. I hope everyone will cooperate."

But the three of them looked very unhappy. Three commanders died within a month of the team's establishment, which was a big blow to the three of them.

The three of them were previously assigned to various departments to fight individually, and it seems that their cooperation is not tacit. In order to cope with the actual combat training of new recruits in two days, they are going to be on the ground. Wouldn't it be a waste to bring such a team to me?

The relationship between the three people doesn't seem to be good. Among them, Lucia has been in a very low mood from the beginning until now. If she continues like this, she will become cannon fodder in two days!

I composed myself and pretended to be serious. "Lucia, why do you keep your head down? As a soldier, what's the point of keeping your head down? After becoming a construct, can't your brain think?"

Lucia raised her head and said in panic, "I'm very sorry, Commander."

I was a little puzzled: "What could possibly make a soldier keep his head down?"

Tears flashed in Lucia's eyes, and her voice was choked with sobs: "I killed humans, I killed a little girl, she was sitting over there, sitting under the rubble. I promised to protect her, but those infected bodies. I couldn't protect my sister before, and now I still can't protect anyone." After saying this, she collapsed to the ground
