Chapter 49 Refugee Work

I looked at the floating screen and prepared to type in my information: "Name, date of birth, place of origin..."

The three men said slowly: "Zhang San, Li Si, Wang Er."

I scoffed, "Three people, three different surnames, and their grandmother's family! Hurry up and get back to work!"

The three men dragged a bag of things and walked to the back with their heads down. No matter how pitiful you are, you can't lie to us. It's not like we won't give you food.

After a while, a teenage girl came over. I saw that she was so small, but she had a big belly and her face was covered with mud.

A little worriedly, she said, "Are you pregnant? Why are you so young?"

The little girl said with difficulty: "I am already nine months pregnant with twins. I am having a very difficult time. Please help me."

I was originally very sympathetic, but when I heard that she was nine months pregnant and her belly was still so big, and she was expecting twins, she wondered if she was going to give birth? I looked at her carefully, and seeing her face full of vicissitudes, she really didn't seem to be lying.

Then I accidentally saw a piece of thread under her big belly. Seeing that she had almost no luggage, I asked, "Where is the father of the child?"

The girl covered her face and cried, "My husband is dead. Please don't mention my sad story anymore."

I quickly said, "I'm sorry, there's something dirty on the right side of your cheek. Please wipe it with your hand."

The girl wiped the right side of her face with her hand, and I immediately said, "There's a spider on your left shoulder!"

The girl jumped in fright, and the quilt in her belly fell down. The girl found out that she was exposed and looked at me embarrassedly.

I said with a dark face, "Alright, alright, everyone, hurry to the back."

The girl had no choice but to pull the quilt and walk backwards. Then another big man came from behind, fully armed, looking a bit fierce and dangerous.

I asked, “Just one?”

The big man said, "That's right."

Me: “What did you do before?”

The big man said: "I used to be a Forgotten, but now I have quit the team."

I looked at him seriously, asked a few other questions, and then let him go.

Would anyone among the Forgotten really be willing to accept the handouts of the Hanging Gardens? They'd probably call them traitors, right? But Watanabe probably wouldn't.

Then I met all sorts of people: wasteland engineers, artists, information experts, even politicians. I didn't understand.

Then they worked until the evening, and when it was time to eat, Karenina brought the food she had bought earlier from the spacecraft.

The staff meal here is just fried potatoes with meat, and there is very little meat. They either give you a piece of bread or a sandwich with some rice and a glass of water, and that's it.

Fortunately, there was a lot of food on the spacecraft, enough for me to eat for four months. I mixed fresh minced beef with rice and drank energy soda, feeling very good.

Karenina was watching from the side, and it made me a little nervous. I pushed the bowl of rice to her and said, "Don't look at me like that! I said I would share some with you. You staring at me like that makes me a little nervous."

Karenina said happily, "Thank you, Commander," and then began to eat voraciously.

Lucia said accusingly, "This isn't the Arctic Union route, nor is it a train. You can't always fight with the commander for such good food."

Karenina smiled and said, "I'll just eat a little, it's no big deal."

Then the people who brought the food to me said in a veiled way, "Commander of the Grey Crows, you can't treat us like special people. We're all the same."

I turned around and pointed outside the door and said, "Then I might even have to fight the Upgraders. Go ahead and fight them. You're just talking nonsense, aren't you? You're just a grown man. You don't fight on the battlefield. You're just sitting in the backyard in white coats. You have no skills, no IQ, and you're too scared to fight on the battlefield. You're doing a dead-end job here. Some other troops even have female combatants. You're not even as good as a woman, and you still make sarcastic remarks. Do you have any shame?"

Those people blushed at what I said, but they couldn't find any reason to refute.

Then, a while later, just as I was about to finish my meal quickly, I felt someone staring at me again. I looked up and saw Bianca Qianzi looking at me with an expression of envy on her face. Aren't these two constructs? Do they want to eat too?

It seems like they have a digestive system in their bodies, but the cleanup troops seem to be very busy, they have to capture rebels, clean up the battlefield, and now they have to do odd jobs.

I said to Karenina, "Go to the airship and get a can of sugar for Miss Bianca and the others."

Karenina hesitated for a moment, but still took a jar of candy from the spaceship and gave it to Miss Bianca. Miss Bianca was not very willing to accept it, but Qianzi was very happy.

Bianca said nervously, "We weren't really craving it. We just thought it smelled kind of good. That's not what I meant."

Qianzi opened the candy jar and said, "Why would we refuse a gift from someone? Look, Bianca, it looks delicious."

Bianca had no choice but to stand up and thank Karenina: "Thank you, Commander of the Grey Crows. I don't know how to thank you enough."

Karenina waved her hand quickly: "No need, we still have a lot, the commander won't mind."

Then after eating, I started working again and worked all night. I was in pretty good condition, but the next day's work was more than yesterday's, so I worked all night again. On the third day, someone reported that there were infected bodies around, but I ran around all morning but couldn't find any. So I delayed my work and worked all night again.

On the fourth day, my mental state was already bad.

I looked at the people coming and going, and vaguely seemed to see a familiar figure, who looked like Roland.
