As soon as morning came, the announcement began: "Constructs and commanders participating in this mission, please come to hatch number two."
I got dressed and waited for the announcement, then opened the door immediately.
Liv and the others stood at the door and said, "Good morning, Commander."
I was a little puzzled. "Why did you three come to my door? I couldn't hear a sound."
Our team arrived at hatch number two, which was filled with people who were about to depart. Everyone seemed very excited because this was our first mission.
After a while, General Connie walked up to the crowd and shouted, "Gentlemen, this is your first time participating in a battle. Originally, I shouldn't say much, but Miss Vera might scare you down there, maybe scare the shit out of you, so I'm giving you a heads-up. You're new commanders, newly created constructs, and constructs that have already participated in several battles. There are a total of 12 commanders and 132 constructs. Your mortality rate for this mission is likely 90%, because most of you are new recruits. Even the three-headed dog team and those experienced soldiers suffered 70% casualties. We may never see some of you again."
Everyone, including me, felt a chill down their spines after hearing this, and some people even started to feel timid.
Connie: "Because the Sky Garden is so huge, its energy has become unstable in recent years, requiring a large amount of manpower. Therefore, the number of people participating in the counterattack is relatively small. To be honest, I also think that the top management is a little crazy, but the matter is settled and you can no longer retreat, because I believe that everything you do is for humanity."
Everyone gradually calmed down. Although they were very scared, they were ready to fight for their deceased relatives and those who needed protection later.
Nice stared at us with sharp eyes. "Everyone looks very good, but if Miss Vera and I ask you to die, are you willing?"
Everyone shouted in unison: "How is this possible?"
Connie couldn't help but smile. "That's right, we should just try our best to survive! I'll also fight with the army because why would a general hide behind a soldier?"
General Connie calmed everyone's emotions, and they seemed to be full of confidence.
After getting on the airship, Connie continued, "A total of 149 people, including 12 commanders, 132 constructs, me, two pilots, and three staff members from the energy room, will not return until this mission is completed. However, two military supply transport planes will return. We haven't been back to the ground for a long time. The floor of the sky garden is very slippery. In four hours, we will see Miss Vera. Even I have to listen to him when we get down there." General Connie laughed.
I asked Lucia and the others, "What is Miss Vera like? You three must have gone on missions with her, right?" I asked.
Lucia thought for a moment and said calmly, "I've seen her fight. She was surrounded by hundreds of infected, slashing furiously with two sabers, laughing uncontrollably and shouting, 'Not enough, more!' When her Pamish concentration was high, she'd take the serum bottle and stab it directly into her body, or crush it and sprinkle it all over her body until she'd killed all the infected. The look in her eyes when she looked back at her teammates was terrifying."
Li said calmly: "That woman is a lunatic, fighting madly and planning madly."
Liv: "But I think Miss Vera is a very good person. Even though the missions are dangerous, Miss Vera is always the first one to rush in alone. She always goes to the most dangerous places. Although he puts mission completion rate first, he will not let his subordinates die in vain."
Liv, you are such an angel. Miss Vera might even cry.
Lucia: "Miss Vera used to be a medical construct, but she inexplicably earned the title of Death God. It seemed like wherever she went, she would bring death, and yet she managed to survive every mission. I heard that nearly a thousand infected bodies surrounded her on the East Plains. Honestly, the military had given up on saving her, but she returned on her own two days later, with all six sabers on her body chopped off! Almost all visible simulated skin on her body was gone, her right leg was half broken, and it seemed that the construct had bitten a piece of her face. Her whole body was covered in red liquid. No one could imagine how she survived."
I felt a bit confused when I heard this. How did Miss Vera survive? Willpower? Or something else?
I paced back and forth, thinking about how I hadn't slept much since last night. I yawned and felt a little tired.
Liv asked with concern, "Commander, are you feeling tired?"
I replied, "I didn't sleep much last night. I'm a little sleepy. There's no bed here and the chairs are too hard, so it's like I didn't sleep at all."
Liv thought for a moment and said, "Indeed, it's a bit noisy here and it's hard to fall asleep. Why don't you sleep on my lap, Commander? I used to sleep on my mother's lap when I was a kid, and I could always fall asleep no matter how noisy it was."
"Ah!" Lucia was very surprised.
Liv smiled at Lucia and said, "Lucia, do you need it? But the commander got here first so you can lean on my shoulder."
Lucia blushed: "That's not what I meant." Liv stretched out her hands and smiled: "Commander."
I sat next to Liv and hesitated: "But Liv."
Before I could finish my words, Liv used her hands to force me onto her legs. My head was pressed against Liv's smooth legs. Liv stroked my head with her hands. Those mechanical hands made me feel so warm at that moment. I felt so comfortable that I stopped struggling.
Liv suddenly began to sing slowly: "In the quiet night sky, there is a castle, and in the castle there is a little princess. The princess is very naughty every day, and her mother has to coax the princess to sleep every day. The mother's singing is very soft, and the princess falls asleep quickly every day..." I fell asleep in Liv's gentle voice.
