I didn't pay much attention to Ruante's words. I just said weakly, "Then I'll leave this task to you for now. I'll go to the ward to check on the patient's condition."
After saying that, he dragged his heavy body and left Ruante and walked out. I began to visit the wounded in the ward from left to right and asked them if they had any needs.
Basically, all the people living here are soldiers and some homeless elderly people.
I checked the wounds of these soldiers one by one. If I found that the condition had not worsened, I would walk out and quickly check the next room. The soldiers also greeted us politely and thanked us for our help.
I pushed open a door and found that most of the people inside were young masters who came in through the back door to seek refuge, so I closed the door and prepared to leave and move to the next room. However, my body was too tired and my mind suddenly felt dizzy, and I leaned against the door frame.
The people in the room saw me and immediately supported me. "Are you Miss Tifa? Thank you for your hard work for us. It's so hard. I don't know how to repay you. Let us take care of you!"
I was about to forcefully push the man's hand away and say, "Thank you very much, but I have to go to work."
But suddenly I was pulled in and pressed on the bed: "No, no, no! I think you really need us to take care of you now, you should just come and enjoy it! It's very comfortable."
When I looked at the evil smiles on those men's faces, I knew what they were going to do, but I had no strength in my body and could not move at all. I could only let them do whatever they wanted.
But suddenly a hoarse and indifferent voice came over: "What are you guys doing?"
Those people immediately turned around to look at the long-haired man and said happily, "Oh! It's Commander Ekeda. You've fought hard on the battlefield. What's up? Do you want to come too? Then you'll be the first one to go. She's a virgin. You should come and relax a little in this situation. Don't waste it."
Ekeda spat and said, "You scumbags, don't you know your parents no longer have any real power? In this situation, you are no different from those lowly hooligans."
"Huh? Asshole, what are you talking about?"
"Why are you pretending to be a hero in this situation?"
"What do you think you are?"
Ekeda stroked his long-unshaved beard and said, "I'm the sole commander now. I'm nothing like you scumbags. You seem unwilling to obey, so I'll teach you a lesson on behalf of your parents."
As he said that, he punched a man away, and the people in the room all avoided him. Ekeda slowly walked to my bed and picked me up. I looked at her dirty face and her worn and bloodstained military uniform, and felt inexplicably relieved. I walked out of the room, and then Ekeda took me to the head pastor.
The head chaplain saw my expression and quickly said, "My apologies, Commander Ekedar, Miss Tifa. I hope I didn't cause you any trouble. I'm truly sorry."
Ekeda lit a cigarette, smoked it and said, "No, no, she was almost raped by several people. Since you are the head priest who manages them, you should know that this is not the first time this has happened. I think you should keep an eye on the nuns under your command. Although I know you are very busy and tens of thousands of refugees are indeed not easy to handle, I still have to remind you." After saying this, he exhaled a smoke ring.
The head priest touched my head and said sadly, "I'm actually aware of some of the dirty things that happened in the church. It's my fault. I also understand Commander Ekeda's difficulties. Maybe this place won't last much longer, right?"
Ekeda snuffed out his unfinished cigarette and said, "This only stronghold depends on us now. It's ridiculous! Those politicians violated the Ladder Covenant and took the ladder up, only to abandon their children here. Their children are still doing evil here. I don't understand the meaning of my fight. But there's nothing I can do. I must fight, otherwise those kind-hearted people like Tifa and the head priest will die innocently."
The head pastor helped me to a chair and put his coat on me. "Haha! We are just the Lord's creations. We do what we should do."
Ekeda said disdainfully, "Don't you doubt your Lord yet? You've abandoned all emotions and desires, living like robots every day. Don't you find it sad?"
The pastor sighed and said calmly, "I know! I know everything. I'm just trying to atone for my sins. But when I adopted these poor children, they just wanted to stay with me. I love them, too. But I really can't hold on any longer in this situation. If I don't pursue my own dreams, I might never have another chance."
Ekeda smiled and said, "I thought you were one of those old stubborn people who read about things in books, but you're actually quite understanding! But in this apocalyptic world, there's no way to pursue your own goals! All we can do is drive those monsters out."
The chief priest took off the cross from around his neck and said solemnly to Ekeda, "Commander Ekeda, I also want to go to the battlefield. I hope you can agree to let my last life burn in this moment."
Ekeda scratched his head and said awkwardly, "You are at least 20 years older than me! And you are the head priest. Are you sure you can go to the battlefield?"
The head priest took off his glasses and said, "You should have heard about the Central School bombing 20 years ago!"
Ekeda swallowed his breath and said in surprise: "This is a classic case I learned when I was in military school. Could it be you?"
