Chapter 26 Mountain God
The big brother wolfed down a big bun and burped.
"These buns are so delicious. Eating a few for breakfast can make you happy all day long."
Someone next to him said, "I just saw Qi Heng go in. How was he? Was he happy to see that we had given him a chance?"
"No, it passed by like the wind." The elder brother laughed, "It's not like he didn't see it - oh my! What a noise!"
There was a sudden sound of collapse in the house, and the voice of Big Brother was stopped with a "bang". A kettle flew out of the window, and Qi Heng's clear cry for help could be heard from inside.
Something happened!
Big Brother and the nearby villagers immediately went to check, worried about the safety of the sacrifice and Qi Heng.
He kicked the door open and people looked inside. It was terrible. For some reason, one of the sacrifices had loosened its rope and was holding a sharp piece of debris against Qi Heng's neck, looking viciously at the intruder.
"Don't come over here!"
The man roared, his hands shaking uncontrollably, and the sharp weapon cut several tiny wounds on Qi Heng's neck, with a few drops of blood hanging on them.
The villagers had never seen such a scene before and were stunned for a moment. After they came to their senses, they raised their hands ferociously to stop the attack, signaling the other party to calm down and not harm the hostages.
The status suddenly reversed.
The elder brother glared at Qi Heng, the trouble maker, with hatred, thinking that this fool must have believed the words of the sacrifice. Now, something that hasn’t happened in decades happened to him.
The man breathed a sigh of relief when he saw that they did not come around. He continued, "Everyone, step back! Let me get out of this damn place. If you dare to take a step forward, I will kill him!"
The villagers fell silent.
Qi Heng, as a member of the Mountain God Village. If possible, they naturally don't want anything to happen to him.
Offerings are an indispensable part of sacrifices. If one of the offerings is missing, the mountain god will surely be angry... and then the entire village will suffer misfortune, just like when it was not favored by the mountain god in the first place.
Qi Heng was so loyal to the mountain god that he would naturally be willing to sacrifice himself. Besides, this was the mess he had caused, and the ropes were tied so tightly that there was no possibility of him struggling free...
The sacrifice will begin the day after tomorrow, and there cannot be any mistakes.
The villagers started moving one by one, hoes and sickles in their hands.
When they cross the line, they peel off their human skins, revealing their true appearance as dungeon NPCs. Their usual smiles and caring are nothing but to confuse people.
Same movements, same expressions, and same thoughts.
For offerings, for sacrifices, for the mountain gods.
"Are you crazy?! If you come any closer I'll kill him!!"
The man looked at the scene in disbelief, and was even more horrified at the level of madness these people were experiencing.
Are they really not worried that Qi Heng will die in his hands? ?
Fortunately, the person in his hand touched him as planned.
The man subconsciously performed the action he had rehearsed countless times in his mind: he grabbed Qi Heng's arm and threw him to the side, while tensing his body and jumping back with force.
Dodged the swift lightning.
……?
What the hell? ?
lightning? ? Where did the lightning come from! ! ?
He couldn't help but widen his eyes and open his mouth stupidly. The few people pretending to be tied up on the ground were also stunned, staring blankly at this fantastic scene that shattered their worldview.
There was a constant crackling sound in the house. The villagers were wailing and screaming. Their paralyzed bodies fell to the ground, stacked on top of each other like a human pyramid. Many of them even knocked their weapons against their own, blood gushing out of their faces, it was a horrible sight.
"Yes, it's evil!"
Someone uttered this in horror.
Qi Heng fainted on the ground, seemingly unaware of the outside world.
The man glanced at him in disbelief, then quickly came to his senses and fled with the five people who had broken free from the ropes at some point.
The two men, each holding two children, and the women staggered out of the village.
The lightning seemed to be clearing a path for them, cutting through all obstacles. No one could defeat it. It struck anyone who stood in their way, giving them an infinite sense of security.
Who cares about monsters and ghosts at this time! Anyone who helps is a natural born god! After they go back, they must burn incense and paper to express their gratitude. A lifetime of gratitude will not be enough!
——
The high priest spat out a mouthful of tea, his eyes bloodshot.
"What did you say? The sacrifice ran away? Was it that Lightning who helped them escape last time?"
The villager who came to report burst into tears and answered with a choked voice: "Yes, High Priest! What should we do? The sacrifice will be held in two days. That evil spirit is extraordinary. It can actually do such a thing. When will the mountain god wake up?"
He spoke while crying, and the high priest, who was listening vaguely, felt a headache and irritated.
"Why are you crying? What you need most now is to think calmly! The sacrifices have all run away. If we don't chase them, we will have no chance anymore."
"As for that evil spirit..."
The high priest nearly crushed the teacup. He hadn't yet avenged himself for splitting the mountain temple last time, and now he wanted to mess up the sacrifice again. Did he really think he was an easy target?
It would be too late if he didn't fight back, but his skills were not as good as before and he couldn't stop the opponent in his prime.
It doesn’t matter, it’s no big deal, it doesn’t matter who they are, the effect is the same. As long as I succeed, what does it matter if the police come? To hell with this village and that damn mountain god!
"Don't worry about this evil spirit. I have it all under control."
The high priest spoke slowly, and his calm and reliable appearance gradually calmed the villagers.
"The sacrifice will be held on the original date. Let everyone search for the sacrifice. It doesn't matter if you can't find it. I have a backup plan. The mountain god is selfless and will not care about this flaw."
…
Everyone was out, and the village suddenly became empty.
Qi Heng stood up and brushed off the dust on his body with disgust.
He pressed the communicator behind his ear and told Lin Muyu that the mission was successfully completed. He would go to search the mountains and forests next, and the mountain temple would be handed over to them.
A slight "beep" sound was heard in my ear, indicating that the message had been received.
Okay, the script has entered the second half, so let’s finish work early.
Qi Heng walked towards his destination in a good mood.
——
The two people who had watched the farce in the distance from a high place reluctantly looked away and looked enviously at someone who could watch it up close.
Lin Muyu sighed skillfully and spread his hands to show that he was powerless. After all, his ability was for reconnaissance rather than communication, and sharing images was not his skill.
"The high priest has come out."
Lin Muyu reminded his teammates to focus on their work.
Although the old man is old, he is still as brisk as ever. He was seen manipulating the black air as a shield to protect himself, and hurried to the mountain temple. He opened the door lock roughly and threw it on the ground.
Once inside, the monitors on the wall broadcast the actual situation.
The high priest came before the statue, glared at the merciful statue angrily for a few seconds, then bent down and pulled away the thick blanket on the ground, revealing the ground with strange lines drawn on it.
The nails that had been driven in before became obstacles, and he ruthlessly pulled them out with his black energy and threw them into the corner, scattering them all over the ground with clanging sounds.
The area under the carpet was completely exposed, with bright red lines combined together. It was clearly a formation that covered the entire ground, and the color changes proved that it had existed for a long time.
On the left side of the ground, there is a small square opening, which is tightly covered.
The high priest pulled the door open with force, revealing a pitch-black area underneath. They stepped in skillfully and walked down one by one, holding the ladder handle.
Lin Muyu raised his eyebrows and used his special ability to control his shadow to move forward and enter the passage behind the high priest. The dark environment was tailor-made for the shadow, blending in smoothly and observing secretly.
The high priest had not yet acquired the ability to see at night, so he took out a tinder, and the fire illuminated the hidden basement.
There were just a few books piled together.
The high priest took a few steps forward, picked up the book gently, and put it in his arms as if it were a treasure. Without even brushing off the dust on the book, he hurried back the way he had come.
Lin Muyu thought for a moment, and at the moment the old man touched the ladder, he controlled the shadow to suddenly rise up, breaking through the enemy's defense, hitting the enemy hard, and slowly putting the fallen man down to the ground.
Then he swallowed the book in one gulp and returned the same way instead of the old man.
The three of them had already jumped down from a high place and were heading towards the mountain temple.
The shadow flew over at high speed, and Lin Muyu took the object it spit out with a "puff".
"I thought he was weak, but I never thought he was so weak." Ye Yunhe was speechless and covered the basement door with his legs.
Si Yu'an looked at the formation on the ground, then raised his head to look at the statue sitting high, and found that he had also seen the black spots that Qi Heng mentioned, and responded with his eyes half closed:
"The weaker he is, the stronger the final boss will be..."
What the high priest treasured were books on sorcery and array formations, including his own diary.
"I came to a village that believed in mountain gods and settled there. It's incredible that half a month ago, I was beaten and kicked by a bastard, but now I have become a high priest and I eat and drink well."
"Those damned fellows would never have thought that I would have such a good life now. I only showed a little magic and gained the trust and respect of these villagers. How ignorant and ridiculous. They will never know that the great and merciful mountain god they mentioned does not exist at all, and that the rain that was regarded as a miracle was just a coincidence."
…
"Those idiots actually protested my order. How unreasonable. I used the new magic I learned on them, and it worked very well. The mountain temple was built quickly. Although these people can provide power, they are too few. The key is still sacrifice. However, we cannot absorb too much at one time. Once every three years is just right."
"I can feel that my current skills are far better than before. That book is truly a masterpiece. God has given me such a good opportunity. I will definitely be reborn. When I achieve great success, I will come out of seclusion to avenge the humiliation I received back then."
…
"Damn it, it's taking longer than I thought. My skills are even showing signs of decline. Why? Is it because my body can't take it anymore? How dare those people ask me to find a successor? Dream on! How can I give up my position? I still have a lot of things to do. I have to find a way..."
…
"That kid named Qi Heng is outstanding both physically and mentally. I'm really jealous."
…
"What an uneducated kid! If I hadn't hidden it well, he would have found it. But it also reminded me that I really can't leave it in the house. It's too unsafe. I have to find a completely safe place... I can't write anymore, damn it."
