Chapter 9 The Second Mission (Part 1)
"I caught you!" Shi Qingqing laughed happily. She threw the fish into the bucket and continued to dive. After repeating this several times, she caught small fish weighing only a few ounces. The largest one was no more than half a pound.
She didn't mind. Even if she didn't eat it, she could sell it at a stall and earn ten or eight yuan.
She swam a distance further away and found that in addition to breathing freely underwater, she could also keep her eyes open throughout the whole process without any obstacles. In the shallower waters, some products that were not natural appeared.
"Is this... a watch?" Shi Qingqing dived down and touched a dark-colored watch strap. The glass on the dial had long been shattered, with only a little residue left at the corners.
The reason why she noticed it was mainly because the strap was dark gold.
Metals such as copper blocks can also be exchanged for money, and selling scrap is one of the ways for housewives to make money these days.
It was also thrown into the small-hole fishing net around Shi Qingqing's waist. Shi Qingqing swam for more than ten minutes and found several plastic bags with things tied in them.
She would come to this area for a short period of time, so she would just pick up whatever she saw and bring it to the shore.
She searched the outer area of the shallow reefs until her bag was full, so she returned to the shore to sort the items.
The fish catches are placed in buckets, and the items that can be sold are placed in a complete plastic bag.
After struggling for a while, I went ashore to change clothes and dug another three and a half kilograms of oysters in the afternoon. It was gradually getting dark.
Her stomach growled with hunger, and Shi Qingqing stored the existing meat in a small warehouse, planning to call it a day.
If I work on it for another day tomorrow, I estimate it will be finished in an hour or so.
When she rode back, she was still in that awkward posture. After all, there was a bucket stuck on the front bar, and there were things on the back seat and handlebars, so her riding posture was naturally strange.
But today's harvest was pretty good, and there were free dishes to add, so Shi Qingqing had a smile on her face every now and then.
Occasionally, passers-by who passed by her would subconsciously take a few steps back.
When she got home, the door was still locked. She went into the bathroom, pressed a brick and took out the key.
After unlocking the door and entering, the soup on the table was gone, probably because it had been drunk. Then I looked in the pot and saw half a pot of noodles.
There was still some soup and meat left, scattered among the white noodles.
It seems that Zhao Fengnian used the bowl of broth directly to add water to cook the noodles, and left half for himself.
She subconsciously pulled the corners of her mouth and felt a little relieved.
After replying to the note left by Shi Qingqing, he went out to look for a house.
Shi Qingqing looked at a few stone croakers and a net of shrimps and simply took them to the vegetable market and squatted there. It didn't take long for her to sell them for nearly three yuan.
The price of seafood here is not very high, and if you don’t buy in quantity, it’s just a small amount.
Shi Qingqing used the money to buy some ingredients, preparing to make something delicious to reward herself.
Bean sprouts, tofu, and a grass carp. After I got home, I went to the neighbor to ask how to stir-fry the ingredients. I gave him two mud carps, and he came over to help me stir-fry them enthusiastically.
The woman next door is called Xu Honghua. She came from Sichuan and Chongqing and has three children. The oldest is only sixteen years old and has already started working in the factory.
She is very hardworking, so hardworking that Shi Qingqing often feels inferior to her. Xu Honghua basically takes care of the two children, her husband's diet and household hygiene. In addition, she can pick vegetable leaves to feed chickens and ducks. She will fry the better leaves or make pickles.
She still plants Houttuynia cordata in the green space, and plants peppers and beans in the corners of the uninhabited yard, which really saves a lot throughout the year.
Her cooking skills are so good that no one would fail to praise her if they had a strong taste for it. However, the locals in Shi Qingqing's area seldom eat strong flavors. Some people think that her cooking is too noisy and the smell is too strong. Some people even criticize her for this.
But when Shi Qingqing looked at the red oil and red soup, coupled with the aroma of the cooked fish, it was so fragrant that Shi Qingqing wanted to drool, and she felt that she had begun to taste the fresh, spicy flavor.
"If you haven't learned it yet, call me next time you go to the market and I'll get it for you, one bag at a time. Oh, and if you can't finish the oil and soup in one meal, you can cook noodles with it."
Xu Honghua got a little benefit and handled Shi Qingqing's affairs very well.
Shi Qingqing originally wanted to wait for Zhao Fengnian to come back for dinner, but she was so hungry that she served herself a bowl of food and started eating.
She was happily eating the delicious boiled fish, while Zhao Fengnian encountered difficulties when he went out to find a house.
Because he is not yet familiar with the local dialect, Min, he speaks haltingly like a stutterer.
People in Fujian are naturally xenophobic. When they see outsiders, they would like to curse them as "sweet potato burnt". But for someone who looks honest like Zhao Fengnian, they dared to ask for a monthly rent of 50 yuan.
The landlord was thinking that he had heard that cement workers on construction sites could earn 20 to 30 yuan a day, so 50 yuan would not be too much.
It would have been fine if Zhao Fengnian hadn't heard his wife tell him the approximate rent, but the key point was that he heard his wife say that the maximum price for a house of this quality would be 40 yuan a month.
Fifty dollars, that’s bullying.
When he heard the price was fifty yuan, Zhao Fengnian didn't even want to bargain and just walked away.
The landlord behind me said, "You Abeis from other places have no money to rent a house, so just go and sleep under the bridge."
Zhao Fengnian went to other places to have a look, and the prices of places with better conditions were similar to the previous one. Some places with worse conditions also charged thirty yuan.
A place the size of a palm, which is a room separated from your home without windows, costs twenty-seven or twenty-eight yuan.
Zhao Fengnian returned home dejectedly and found that his room was still the best.
Although there is no running water, there is a well every two steps. The second floor is the owner's house. Two old tables are used to block the stairs, separating the first and second floors. This means that the first floor is your own territory and you don't have to be watched by the landlord or roommates all day long.
I used to live in a shack with my fellow workers. It was a makeshift shed made of planks and some scrap materials. Several people would lie on the wooden beds, and a mat would serve as a pretty good mattress.
It was my wife who found this yard. If she wasn’t a local, it would have been difficult for them both to find a place to live since they both don’t have stable jobs.
If you don't have a proper job, people will be worried that if the house is damaged, they won't be able to find anyone responsible.
Zhao Fengnian just walked in dejectedly when a fresh, fragrant and spicy smell hit him in the face, and his eyes lit up.
Shi Qingqing saw Zhao Fengnian coming back and waved: "Come over for dinner."
Zhao Fengnian followed his wife's instructions and walked over. He washed his hands and sat down. A bowl of rice was stuffed into his hands and a pot of boiled fish was in front of him.
The side dishes included beans, pig blood, tofu, and lettuce slices, and he ate them with great relish.
After eating it, he praised it for being delicious.
"The lady next door cooked the ingredients for us, and then she cooked the fish at the same time. It looks very authentic, right?" Shi Qingqing also thought it was delicious.
"Mm, it's delicious. Let's keep this soup and use it to blanch some dishes in the evening, or cook some noodles with it."
Shi Qingqing agreed.
Her obedient appearance made Zhao Fengnian feel jealous. How could such a good wife suddenly not want to live with him?
