107: Deputy Division Commander Shen praised for his excellent physique (1/2)

When Shen Jichuan returned home from get off work, Wen Qiao had already cooked dinner.

It's freezing cold in the Northwest, so it's not convenient to bring the food out. The corn porridge is simmering in the pot, and Wen Qiao has made a few scallion pancakes.

It was made just in time for Shen Jichuan to get off work.

Wang Gang, who was returning home from get off work with Shen Jichuan, looked at the Shen family's house diagonally across the street, where wisps of smoke were rising from the kitchen.

He said with a smile, "Ji Chuan, your family is making you dinner."

At first, Wang Gang thought that Wen Qiao was so young to be with Shen Jichuan, even though Shen Jichuan looked young, he was actually quite old.

Outsiders naturally assume that Shen Jichuan handles all the affairs, both inside and outside the home.

Wen Qiao, this young wife, certainly doesn't care about anything at all.

Unexpectedly, after observing Wen Qiao for the past few days, Wang Gang discovered that she was not a pretentious person at all.

Shen Jichuan said, "She can't stay idle. I've told her several times. She's pregnant and incredibly clumsy, but she still insists on doing things."

"By the way, Political Commissar Wang, could you please ask your wife to help find a reliable person? Wen Qiao is quite far along in her pregnancy, and I'd like to find a nanny before the baby is born, so we can get used to each other."

Wang Gang readily agreed, "Okay, I'll tell my wife later."

"Go back quickly."

Shen Jichuan nodded.

She quickly walked into the kitchen and saw Wen Qiao wearing an apron and diligently making pancakes. There were several pancakes on a plate, which she covered with a clean cloth to prevent them from cooling down too quickly.

Shen Jichuan rolled up his sleeves and stepped forward.

"Didn't I say I'd take care of all three meals? Are you hungry? If you're out of bread and biscuits at home, I'll have someone go to the city to buy some for you and keep them at home. You can eat these to tide you over if you're hungry."

Wen Qiao rubbed her lower back, chuckled, and stepped back, handing the cutting board to Shen Jichuan.

Seeing his clumsy attempt at rolling out the dough, Wen Qiao gave him some gentle instructions.

"It's okay, I'll take my time, it won't be tiring."

"Sister Wang came here today and brought us some eggs. I gave her a bag of peach shortbread. I heard her say that something happened at the border military farm. Director Li and Political Commissar Wang are going there tomorrow. Are you going too?"

Shen Jichuan said, "I told Political Commissar Wang that I'm worried about you staying home alone, so I won't be going this time..."

Logically, Shen Jichuan, the newly arrived leader, should have gone there.

It would seem inappropriate for him not to go.

But for Shen Jichuan, now that he's already in the Northwest, what's the difference between suitable and unsuitable? Does he really want to get promoted in the Northwest?

Now, his wife and children are the most important things to him.

Wen Qiao hummed in agreement, and then said, "I'm not very clear about work-related matters, but I hope I won't delay your work because of me."

Shen Jichuan turned to look at Wen Qiao.

"No, don't worry."

"What I need to do now is to complete my own work well, and the rest of my time is yours."

Wen Qiao smiled, pursing her lips.

Dinner consisted of scallion pancakes, scrambled eggs, and braised corn porridge.

Although it wasn't a lavish meal, eating wheat flour and eggs in Northwest China was considered a very nutritious meal.

The next morning, before Shen Jichuan and Wen Qiao had even gotten up, they heard a knock on the door.

Wen Qiao tried to get up, but Shen Jichuan held her arm down.

"You lie down and get some sleep, I'm going out to take a look."

As he spoke, Shen Jichuan quickly grabbed his clothes and put them on before heading outside. He saw Wang Gang standing at the door.

"Political Commissar Wang, what's wrong?"

"Something happened at the border farm, we all have to go there."

"What happened?" Shen Jichuan asked, frowning.

“Three educated youths have gone missing. They’ve been missing for three days and three nights. The person in charge at the farm couldn’t find them, so they reported it. I just arranged for a few people to come and call you.”

Shen Jichuan hesitated for a moment.

"I'll go tell Wen Qiao."

"Okay, I'll wait for you here."

Before Shen Jichuan could enter the house, Wen Qiao had already gotten up, dressed, and was heading outside.

“I heard what Political Commissar Wang said to you. Now hurry up and pack your things, don’t waste any time.”

Wen Qiao had heard Li Qin say a few words about the military farm in the border region. The educated youth in the military farm were different from the ordinary educated youth who went to the countryside. Most of them were recruited through conscription, and there were also many children of urban cadres.

If something really happens and things escalate, it shouldn't be underestimated.

What Wen Qiao knew, how could Shen Jichuan not know?
