Wen Qiao has been quite busy these past few days, dealing with so much meat, but thankfully the weather is cold and the temperature is low.
She and Su Mei, or rather Su Mei alone, were simply too busy to finish their tasks.
There are too many workers and not enough people, so the workload is heavy.
Wen Qiao then went to call Li Qin, the neighbor's sister-in-law, for help.
Since it was food, Wen Qiao even made her own masks for Su Mei and Li Qin to wear.
Looking at all that meat, Li Qin clicked her tongue in amazement.
"Wen Qiao, you're really good to Deputy Division Commander Shen. Just because you were worried that he wouldn't adapt to the climate and water in the Northwest, you specially made this dried meat for him. This meat must have cost you a lot of money."
Wen Qiao didn't mention the price, but simply changed her words.
“Goodness between husband and wife is mutual. The meat I bought is not all for him alone. I heard that border patrols last at least a week at a time, and they have to walk continuously for a week. How can they eat well? I prepared this meat to help them replenish their energy.”
"Sister-in-law, I won't let you help me for nothing. After all, this isn't a government matter. I'll give you a piece of meat later so you can take it and improve the children's meals."
Li Qin was just asking casually.
It's only right for neighbors to help each other.
In this residential compound, if a woman is getting married and needs bedding, or if a son is getting married and the family is holding a wedding banquet, that's how it happens.
There are also matters to attend to when an elderly person passes away.
Everyone helps each other out.
I never intended to ask for anything in return for helping someone.
Upon hearing Wen Qiao's words, Li Qin quickly replied:
"Xiao Qiao, that's not what I meant. You asked me for help because we're good friends. How could I possibly accept anything from your family?"
Seeing her say this so seriously.
Wen Qiao chuckled softly, "Sister-in-law, you're such a good person, that's why I like you."
Hearing Wen Qiao's words, Li Qin worked even harder.
Wen Qiao saw that there was a lot of beef and thought about making some beef sauce. Beef sauce is a good side dish, and she would add more mushrooms to it.
She asked Li Qin where she could buy mushrooms.
Li Qin said she had some dry food at home, so she had to go home to get some.
Before Wen Qiao could stop her, Li Qin ran home wearing a mask.
Wang Gang kept explaining the tasks to be done to the civil servants around him as they walked and talked.
The civil servant, Xiao Huang, nodded in agreement, but then, not hearing what Political Commissar Wang said, he looked up.
Seeing that Political Commissar Wang was craning his neck as if he had seen something rare, he quickly walked home.
He had just arrived home when Li Qin walked out carrying a half-sack of dried mushrooms.
Where are you going?
Without turning her head, Li Qin said, "I'm going to help out at Deputy Division Commander Shen's house."
Wang Gang had no choice but to ask his daughter, Er Ya, who was doing her homework at the living room table.
"What help is your mother going to the Shen family for?"
Er Ya replied, "Dad, is your nose malfunctioning? Can't you smell the aroma of meat filling the neighbor's yard? My brother ran over three times because he was so hungry. He even asked Aunt Wen Qiao for some dried meat, but he didn't even give me a piece."
Political Commissar Wang then remembered that Wen Qiao was busy making dried meat for Deputy Division Commander Shen, who was on duty at the border.
Look at that woman's wife, and then look at his.
Wang Gang could never eat that much meat in his entire life.
He had actually smelled the aroma of the meat a long time ago, but as a political commissar, he couldn't indulge in such a gluttonous act.
Wang Gang stayed at home, explained his recent tasks to Xiao Huang, a civil servant, and then Xiao Huang went home.
When it was time for dinner, Li Qin still hadn't returned.
Wang Gang had no choice but to ask Er Ya next door why she hadn't returned yet.
