Wen Qiao carried the breakfast she had prepared for Shen Jichuan and went to the side.
Lu Yazhi asked Li Sumei about her family situation with concern, and told her not to tell Wu Suwei about his grandfather's situation yet, for fear that the child would be scared and worried if she knew.
Meanwhile, Shen Jichuan watched as Wen Qiao opened her lunchbox and gave him some food.
She said in a low voice, "You guys come, I'll just eat at home. It's too much trouble to bring it all over."
Wen Qiao said softly, "You've been working so hard here, it's no trouble at all to just bring you breakfast."
"You must not have slept well last night. Are you going to work today, or are you going home to get some sleep?"
Shen Jichuan said, "There's been a lot going on at work lately, and it's not easy for me to take leave because of my position. I'll have dinner, go home to wash up, and then come back to work."
Wen Qiao hummed in agreement.
Shen Jichuan told her that Wu Jiandong was back and that Wen Qiao should take care of herself and not worry too much.
Lu Yazhi also brought some liquid food, which was prepared for Old Wu.
Unfortunately, Old Wu didn't wake up, and breakfast got cold.
After Shen Jichuan left, Wen Qiao and Lü Yazhi stayed at the hospital. When a caregiver went to take care of Wu Yongliang, Lü Yazhi went in with him. She held Wu Yongliang's hand and called out "Old Wu" several times.
Seeing that Wu Yongliang had no reaction, Lü Yazhi started crying first.
They waited until after 2 p.m. when Wu Jiandong arrived, having finished getting ready. He, Wen Qiao, and Lü Yazhi stayed at the hospital.
It's unclear how Wu Yuting found out Wu Yongliang was in critical condition, but she immediately came to the hospital.
Upon arriving at the hospital, she insisted on seeing her older brother, but Wu Jiandong stopped her.
Wen Qiao and Lü Yazhi had no interest in caring about her anymore; they were only thinking about when Wu Yongliang would wake up. As long as he woke up, even if he was paralyzed on one side, Lü Yazhi felt there was still hope.
Wu Yuting looked at her nephew who was trying to stop her.
He said sternly, "Wu Jiandong, are you out of your mind? Lü Yazhi is your stepmother, not your biological mother. Why are you so protective of her? My elder brother has collapsed. If he were to pass away, would everything in the Wu family go to Lü Yazhi?"
"She's only been in the Wu family for a short time, so we absolutely cannot give her anything from this house."
Wu Jiandong looked at Wu Yuting with eyes full of disappointment.
"So you've forgotten what my dad told you before? Auntie, you've come uninvited. Don't cause any trouble, or you'll regret it."
“You took everything from the house except what your grandmother left you. As long as I am the son of the Wu family, and I have a son of my own, you have no right to any of the Wu family’s things.”
"Even if my dad were to wake up, I could still be in charge. From now on, I'll be the one calling the shots in the Wu family."
“As long as Aunt Lü stays with the Wu family, she will have a share of the Wu family’s things. As her stepson, I will take care of her in her old age and see her off when she dies.”
Wen Qiao and Lü Yazhi, who were standing nearby, also heard what Wu Jiandong and Wu Yuting were saying.
Wen Qiao glanced at her mother and said, "Regardless of what Jian Dong's purpose was in saying these words, it shows that he acknowledges your existence in his heart."
"Mom, don't worry. Uncle Wu will definitely wake up."
Lu Yazhi hummed in agreement and nodded, saying, "I've thought it through too. If your Uncle Wu really passes away, I won't take anything from the Wu family. I'll leave those things to Xiao Wei."
This was what Lü Yazhi was thinking, and she only mentioned it to her daughter, not to Wu Jiandong or Li Sumei.
