Chapter 58: Copying Scriptures

"What? You want me to kneel down in front of the Buddha and slap him to apologize?"

Concubine Jin immediately dropped her hands that were covering her face and pointed at Su Lijin in disbelief. Her swollen cheeks looked a bit funny under her extremely angry expression.

But obviously, Concubine Jin had no idea how she looked at the moment, and she was almost going crazy.

"If you dare not use the honorific again, I will have someone slap you in the face and let you know what the rules are." Su Lijin adjusted her skirt and looked directly at her. Her aura, coupled with the power of the queen, immediately made Jin Guiren's arrogance subside a bit.

But is Jin Guiren someone who can swallow this insult immediately?

"Her Majesty the Queen."

She gritted her teeth and said, "I have already apologized twice. I have apologized and you have hit me. Please forgive me while you can."

The Queen Mother also felt that Su Lijin was being unreasonable, but she didn't want Su Lijin to turn her attention to herself. After all, she was not in the right in today's matter, so she didn't say anything else.

"It's not up to you to decide whether to forgive you or not."

Su Lijin met her resentful gaze, curled her lips and smiled gracefully: "It is this palace that has the final say."

Lady Jin's teeth were grinding so hard that her eyes were almost popping out.

"Today, you must kneel down and slap yourself in the face, otherwise, I will never let you go."

Su Lijin naturally knew that it was better to have less trouble than more, but since Concubine Jin had beaten people at the doorstep and hit people around her, she, Su Lijin, would never let her get away with a smile.

Anyone who bullies Su Lijin must be prepared to pay the price.

"Hahaha, Her Majesty the Queen is truly so majestic."

Seeing that Su Lijin would never give up, Concubine Jin simply put away her servile attitude, patted her knees, straightened her body and said, "Your Majesty, do you want to know who is behind me?"

Su Lijin raised her eyebrows and said calmly, "Oh?"

"I was sent to the palace by the Prime Minister to help His Majesty have children. Your Majesty, if you want to humiliate me like this, you are slapping the Prime Minister in the face. Do you really want to do this?"

"Are you the Prime Minister's man?" Su Lijin asked indifferently.

Thinking that Su Lijin was scared, Concubine Jin nodded with a smug look on her face: "So, Your Majesty, you must think carefully about whether or not you want to touch me."

With a smile on her lips, Su Lijin asked, "Since you have entered the harem, your heart must belong to the emperor. No matter who sent you there, you must be the emperor's person. Now you call yourself the prime minister's person. Are you saying that you have cheated on the emperor, or that you have no loyalty to the emperor at all?"

A series of rhetorical questions made Jin Guiren stunned. In the end, her swollen and red face showed a bit of fear.

No matter what happens in private, if you openly express that you are cheating on the emperor or that you lack loyalty to the emperor, you will be beheaded for any of these crimes!

Even the extermination of nine generations of a family was not uncommon.

Jin Guiren was suppressed repeatedly and her face turned blue and purple with anger. When she saw Su Lijin's smiling face, she wished she could scratch it with her fingernails.

"Hmph, Her Majesty, there's no need to accuse me of any crime that I don't deserve."

"It's your own family, Queen, that was demoted and punished. That's a fact."

Reaching out and touching the red hairpin on her head, Jin Guiren sarcastically said, "I don't know what a hollow family without any real power has to boast about. Who knows, if they get demoted again one day..."

She hadn't finished what she was going to say, but she couldn't say anything else.

With a "slap", the swollen face was slapped hard, and a trace of blood flowed from the corner of the mouth.

"Jin Su Li!" Concubine Jin was so angry that she almost lost her mind and screamed out the queen's name.

Su Lijin looked at her slapping hand, her lips full of sarcasm: "My brother is still the general, and I am still the queen. It is not your turn to mock this family as a pawn. If you have the ability, try to be a queen too."

Noble Lady Jin opened her mouth to retort, but a deep male voice came from behind her.

"What are you arguing about? This is a sacred place for our ancestors, how can you be so noisy?"

Seeing the bright yellow robe of the visitor, the surrounding palace maids all knelt on the ground.

The Queen Mother saw Xiao Shengxing and nodded, but she didn't say anything in particular, looking completely out of the matter.

"Your Majesty, you are finally here."

Concubine Jin knelt before Xiao Shengxing, her face aggrieved, but her words were full of complaints: "The Empress is bullying me by taking advantage of her power. I was simply stating that she had been away from the palace for a while, but she tried to use her power as Empress to threaten me."

"The Queen has not been in the palace recently?" Xiao Shengxing asked, but he was actually asking Su Lijin.

Faced with doubts, Su Lijin remained calm. A glance at Jin Guiren's face, who looked like she was enjoying the show, left her with only sarcasm in her heart.

"I have been concentrating on copying scriptures in the ancestral hall recently. I wonder what evidence Lady Jin has that would allow her to slander me like this."

"Since the Empress said to copy the sutras," Concubine Jin sneered, "then you might as well take them out and show them to everyone."

Her words were quite inappropriate, but Su Lijin did not refute her. Instead, she raised her hand and asked the maid to go into the ancestral hall and bring out some books.

Xiao Shengxing flipped through the book and found that what was copied in it was indeed a scripture, and the handwriting was indeed Su Lijin's.

He glanced at Su Lijin, who remained calm and composed.

Of course, this was because Su Lijin had been prepared and was not afraid at all. There was nothing wrong with these scriptures because she had actually copied them before, and of course they were in her own handwriting.

Closing the book, Xiao Shengxing glanced at Concubine Jin with some displeasure, and said in a harsh tone, "The copied scriptures are right here. Are you still trying to wrongly accuse the Queen? I don't want to hear any more news of you causing trouble for the Queen."

Concubine Jin was not convinced and wanted to argue, but was stopped by the Queen Mother's men.

"There must have been some misunderstanding. Let's just forget about today. I'm tired, so I'll go back first."

After saying this, the Queen Mother pressed Concubine Jin down and left.

The huge crowd dispersed, and the entrance of the ancestral hall suddenly became empty.

Seeing that Xiao Shengxing had no intention of leaving, Su Lijin raised her eyebrows slightly.

Xiao Shengxing cast a scrutinizing gaze on her face and said after a moment, "Don't make some things too obvious."

These words were like a reminder, and Su Lijin suddenly froze.

What does Xiao Shengxing mean by this?

Does he know everything?

Did he know he had left?

For some reason, Su Lijin's heartbeat became a little erratic. She thought to herself that Xiao Shengxing must have placed spies around her, otherwise, he would not have been able to spot the flaw.

Yes, this is the only possibility.

As for Concubine Jin, as soon as she returned to her bedroom, she couldn't wait to write a letter.

The carrier pigeon had a letter tied to its leg, and after several twists and turns, it finally landed in the backyard of the prime minister's residence.

In the backyard, the Prime Minister finished reading the letter and revealed a calculating and vicious look.

"This yellow-haired girl is quite scheming. She actually managed to escape."

He unfolded the rice paper, his shrewd old eyes narrowed slightly: "I just don't believe that I won't be able to find something to hold against you next time and bring you down!"

He immediately wrote a few lines on the rice paper.

Under the smooth handwriting, it is clear that he is reminding Concubine Jin to pay attention to Su Lijin's handle and plan to remove her from office.
