Jiang Yimian knew that the Lin family must have brought money, but she didn't know how the matter of Lu Cijian's poisoning was going, or how many people in the village had eaten the food and drunk the water.
There's not much she can do; the rest is up to the authorities.
At this moment, on the forest path leading to the mountain stronghold, Lin Yan'an, dressed in a red brocade robe, sat on his horse, casually waving a fan in his hand, showing no sign of tension.
A groom led a horse, which was pulling a cart with four large boxes, forward.
If Jiang Yimian hadn't known that this guy had come to the mountain stronghold to deliver silver, she probably would have thought he was there to welcome a bride.
Jiang Yimian looked at the scene through the binoculars and silently twitched the corner of her mouth.
This show-off's personality probably won't change easily.
The bandits on the watchtower at the entrance of the stronghold were somewhat bewildered by the scene below.
Although their letter specified that the Lin family should send one person, they had never seen a family as obedient as the Lin family, who only had two additional grooms.
Especially since the person on horseback showed no fear whatsoever, as if he were there for a spring outing, they found it even more strange.
Although Zhao Sandao was puzzled, he didn't think too much about it. When he saw people coming, he gestured to the people around him.
The man immediately nodded respectfully and led a group of people out of the village.
Just as the twenty-odd bandits stood on the pile of sand and stones blocking their path, before they could stop Lin Yan'an and his men, a sharp arrow pierced through the bandits with a "whoosh."
Because of insufficient accuracy, it went completely astray.
Everyone was startled, and the bandits immediately realized they had been ambushed. They shouted, "Damn it, there's an ambush! Be careful, everyone!"
The next second, a barrage of arrows rained down on them.
The constables who had been hiding in the woods for a long time rushed straight over.
Unfortunately, the bandits were no pushovers either. As if they already knew, several groups of men immediately rushed into the forest to fight.
Several more archers appeared on the watchtower, constantly shooting arrows at the soldiers below.
Seeing several bandits charging towards him with broadswords, Lin Yan'an could no longer pretend. He stiffly dismounted and quickly led his coachman into the woods.
We agreed to wait until the person inside the box went in before we talked. What's going on? Why did they start fighting? This isn't what we agreed on!
Song Quanzhao stared at the people who were blocked on the pile of sand and stones, and frowned for a moment. He hadn't given the order yet, so who shot that arrow?
They directly exposed their location; what an idiot.
Seeing that the constables were losing ground, Song Quanzhao frowned even more.
These bandits didn't seem caught off guard; on the contrary, they seemed to have been prepared all along. There must be a traitor within the government.
Screams filled the entrance to the stronghold, and blood quickly stained the ground. Most of those who fell were constables.
Jiang Yimian frowned as she watched the constables being completely overwhelmed and beaten. She had underestimated these bandits.
These bandits were very experienced in killing and made excellent use of the terrain around their stronghold. If this continued, the government officials would soon suffer a crushing defeat.
She put away her binoculars, and a bow and arrow appeared in her hand, with fire lit on the arrow, illuminating the watchtower.
She drew her bow and shot an arrow in one swift motion; with a "whoosh," the flaming arrow flew towards the houses in the village.
With a loud "boom," the flames spread instantly, and several houses were quickly engulfed in flames.
Without pausing, Jiang Yimian fired several more flaming arrows, instantly setting several houses that she had already doused with gasoline ablaze. The flames illuminated the dimly lit mountain stronghold.
The guards, who had been chatting and laughing in front of the gate, froze upon seeing the raging fire and shouted, "Fire! Fire! Fire!"
The village instantly descended into chaos. Unfortunately, misfortune never comes singly; before they could run more than a few steps, everyone felt unbearable stomach pains.
At this point, they couldn't even care less about putting out the fire; everyone was searching for a latrine to relieve themselves.
Seeing the flames spread rapidly and soon reach the newly built thatched huts on the outskirts, Xiao Tao quickly called to the kidnapped girls and those locked in the woodshed to run up the mountain behind the house.
These people could only eat leftovers after the bandits had finished their meal, so they didn't know what was going on with the bandits suddenly looking for latrines. The group just hurriedly ran towards the back of the mountain.
They encountered several bandits on the way, but because the bandits had stomach aches and were weak, they were easily subdued. The group quickly ran up the mountain.
Jiang Yimian watched from the watchtower as more than twenty girls and a few scattered men ran up the mountain, and breathed a sigh of relief.
That girl certainly didn't let her down.
If she were to start the fire and then try to evacuate the crowd, not only would there not be enough time, but she would also be more likely to be exposed.
This girl did her a favor.
Jiang Yimian then took the binoculars and looked towards the entrance of the mountain stronghold.
The village was ablaze with fire, which illuminated the scene for her.
The bandits fighting outside the stronghold occupied the high ground, and the constables below were hacked down with broadswords before they could even get up, leaving them in a very sorry state.
Several bandits burst into laughter, "They're really useless. These people from the imperial court all seem to be good-for-nothings. They can't even get into the mountain stronghold, so what are they doing suppressing bandits!"
"Absolutely, it's hilarious."
With them occupying the high ground, it was impossible for the government officials to enter the mountain stronghold.
As everyone was laughing, their stomachs suddenly started to cramp. The intense pain made them break out in a cold sweat and instantly lost their initial excitement. They felt like they had to relieve themselves on the spot, and unable to hold it in any longer, they scattered and fled to find a latrine.
Some were still fighting with the officials, while others, unable to break free, turned into jet engines and ended up with their pants down.
