"Really, anything is fine?"
The three of them paused upon hearing this, and when they turned around, they found that Jiang Yimian had appeared behind them at some point, looking at them with a half-smile.
The three of them quickly stood up and said, "Sister Mian, we'll go learn to read right away. We were just talking nonsense."
After saying that, they all ran away.
If I don't learn to read from Zhang Xiucai, I'll have to learn from Sister Mian or Xiao Ye. One is scary, and the other is too talkative. Zhang Xiucai is still the best.
Jiang Yimian looked at the group of people who had disappeared in an instant and felt a little helpless. These guys were lazy when it came to learning to read, but they were different from Gou Sheng.
They were quite clever and knew many characters, but they were unwilling to study and didn't have any books they wanted to read. Jiang Yimian didn't know how to persuade them, so she simply ignored them.
This actually frightened the group, and they immediately went to learn to read whenever they saw her unhappy.
Once everyone had left, Old Liu smiled and, holding the railing in his hand, asked, "Will this railing be used to prevent the fish from escaping?"
Jiang Yimian looked at the large barrier on the ground.
There are many holes in the middle of the piece of wood that are pieced together, allowing water to flow. The holes are not large, but they are densely packed, allowing water to flow without letting the fish escape.
She nodded. "Okay, once the fish fry and loach fry have grown bigger in a few days, we can release them into the pond."
The loach fry and fish fry have grown quite a bit in the past few days. Under her careful care, there have been no casualties, and they are all lively and energetic. She just needs to wait until they are a little bigger before releasing them into the pond.
It will be much easier then, and I won't have to feed her every day.
The pond is teeming with small shrimp and various aquatic plants, which the fish can hunt for themselves. She just throws in some earthworms occasionally, and that's it.
Old Liu breathed a sigh of relief, looked at the barrier on the ground and said with a smile, "This was what Tie Zhu said. If he hadn't been unable to exert his strength these past few days, he would have made it himself, and it would definitely have been better than this."
The best carpenter in the village was Chen Tiezhu, but he was only a half-baked craftsman. He only knew a little bit of the craft because he didn't want to spend money to make it. The things he made were barely usable, let alone aesthetically pleasing.
Jiang Yimian just smiled and moved the fish tanks and basins with Old Liu to a place where they could get some sun.
Just as they were busy, Wang Xiaohei rushed back, his face full of panic. "Sister Mian, Grandpa, something happened in the village. Those people are blocking Xiao Ye and the others from leaving. Da Shu and Er Hei went to help, but they were also stopped."
Old Liu suddenly stood up, and with a "crack" sound, the pain in his waist made him frown instantly.
Jiang Yimian quickly helped the man sit down on a stool nearby. "Grandpa, did you hurt your back?"
Old Liu waved his hand, then looked at Wang Xiaohei and said with dissatisfaction, "What's going on? Why can't Xiao Ye and the others leave? Isn't this bullying?"
Wang Xiaohei shook his head and said anxiously, "I don't know what happened either. As soon as I came down the mountain, I saw a lot of people arguing in front of Zhang Xiucai's house. Some people were even pulling Xiao Ye and the others, saying they wouldn't let them leave. Da Shu and the others wanted to go and help, but they were stopped by the villagers. So I took the opportunity to run back."
Jiang Yimian frowned and quickly said, "Xiao Hei, help Grandpa to the house to rest. I'll go see what happened in the village."
As he spoke, he quickly walked outside.
She walked quickly and reached the bottom of the mountain in less than half an hour.
From afar, one could see a large crowd gathered in front of Zhang Xiucai's house, with Zhao Dashu and Zhao Erhei being held tightly by several people, unable to move.
There were many onlookers around, but they all stood far away and none of them dared to step forward.
Little Nuan'er's crying came from inside, "Waaah, I, we didn't steal anything, don't wrong us."
"Stop talking nonsense. I just saw the two of you walking over from my house. If it wasn't you who stole it, who else could it be? Look, here's the evidence. This is my meat and milk. You can't let these thieves get away with this."
Sun Xiaohu's face was full of resentment. He was furious at the thought that his meat had almost been stolen by these people.
He was so excited to finally see some meat at home, but he almost died before he even got a taste of it.
Hearing this, Grandma Sun, who was standing nearby, showed a hint of anger on her wrinkled face.
She raised her voice and cursed, "You shameless little bastard, you even stole from my house! No wonder you're an outsider, you have no manners. Today I'll teach you a lesson on behalf of your family."
As soon as she finished speaking, she raised her hand to slap Xiao Nuan'er.
Xiao Nuan'er was so frightened that she forgot to cry. Xiao Ye tried to stop her, but Sun Xiao Hu grabbed her arm.
"Don't worry, Grandma will teach you a lesson in a bit."
Ono was so anxious to shake off Sun Xiaohu that he couldn't move, as the other man held him tightly.
Just as Grandma Sun's slap was about to land on Xiao Nuan'er's fair face, Jiang Yimian pushed through the crowd and kicked Grandma Sun.
With a scream, Grandma Sun collapsed to the ground.
"Ouch, who was the shameless one who did this? Ouch, it hurts so much!"
Grandma Sun was groaning on the ground, clutching her stomach. The Sun family members who had blocked Zhao Dashu and his companion rushed forward to help her up.
Upon seeing that the person standing in front of her was a young woman, Old Lady Sun immediately became dissatisfied and cursed, "You little hussy, what business is it of yours if I scold these thieves? You dare to hit me? I think you don't want to live anymore."
As soon as he finished speaking, ignoring the pain in his stomach, he rolled up his sleeves and was about to hit Jiang Yimian.
Zhao Dashu and Wang Erhei immediately stepped in front of her, glaring at her fiercely, as if they would attack if she dared to take another step forward.
Old Mrs. Sun felt a chill run down her spine as the two men glared at her. She quickly shrank back behind her three sons before continuing to shout, "I want to see the village chief! You vagrants are going too far! You stole from my family and beat this old woman! If you don't compensate me, you can forget about living in the village!"
Jiang Yimian reached out and rubbed Xiao Nuan'er's head. Seeing that she was just frightened, she looked at Grandma Sun and said coldly, "Did you see them stealing with your own eyes?"
Grandma Sun choked and looked at her little grandson.
Sun Xiaohu snorted coldly, put his hands on his hips and said, "I saw them walk over from my house, and then the meat in my house disappeared. Zhang Xiucai's family is so poor that they can't even afford to eat. Where would they get meat? If they didn't steal it from my house, where else could it have come from?"
These people still tried to deny it, but it was clearly them who stole it.
Jiang Yimian looked at the cloth bag that Xiao Nuan'er was clutching tightly in her arms and felt that it looked somewhat familiar. Just as she was about to speak, Zhang Xiucai walked out of the house with his cane, carrying several cloth bags in his arms.
Seeing Jiang Yimian there, he felt ashamed and raised his voice, saying, "Grandma Sun, I've already said that this meat isn't from your family. It was brought to me by Jiang Yimian, along with this rice and flour. Don't make a scene here."
