Wang Fengqin just smiled and hugged the person in her arms back, saying earnestly, "Yes, Mother and you are still here."
Today, she has finally given up hope. Those people from the second wife's family are not relatives at all; they are a bunch of bloodsucking parasites.
Once Wang Fengqin had calmed down, Jiang Yimian continued, "Mother, what did you mean when you said that Father and Big Brother were gone because of Grandpa and Grandma?"
She has no memory of these things.
All that is known is that Jiang Dazhuang went out to find work and suddenly disappeared without a trace.
Jiang Qingyuan was also conscripted while traveling.
Wang Fengqin was taken aback, and after a while she said, "It's not entirely because of them. Your father disappeared while he was out working, so it's not their fault."
But your elder brother went out with Yaoguang back then. When the imperial court was conscripting men, they only took your brother and a young man from the village. Yaoguang ran back alone in a panic.
At the time, I was too preoccupied with my grief to think about it, but I only found out later when I overheard Yaoguang talking to his mother.
Jiang Yaoguang was the first to be captured by the soldiers. In order to escape, he told the soldiers the location of Qingyuan and the young man hiding, and he took advantage of the chaos to run back.
If... if he hadn't revealed Qingyuan's location back then, Qingyuan would definitely have been able to return.
At that time, she still cherished family ties, and with Jiang Yaoguang apologizing to her, she knew that the matter was already settled and there was no point in saying anything more. So she lived in a daze, spending her days in tears.
Today, if Jiang Erzhuang's words hadn't been so obviously ruthless, she wouldn't have suddenly brought this up.
The thought that Qingyuan was able to come back back then only made her feel heartbroken.
Thinking about it, the tears that I had finally managed to stop welled up again.
Jiang Yimian comforted Wang Fengqin a few more times, and only left the room after Wang Fengqin had completely recovered, but her heart was full of anger.
If before they only thought the second wife's group was heartless and selfish, now they are utterly ruthless.
She couldn't understand how this family could come to her door and cause trouble with such a clear conscience, and how they could sleep peacefully.
Jiang Qingyuan was only sixteen years old when he was conscripted. His peaceful life was completely changed by Jiang Yaoguang's selfishness.
Her mother also suffered a series of blows because of her father and brother's affairs, and became depressed and her health was completely ruined.
If the second wife's family had been grateful, that would have been one thing, but what did they do? Knowing that there wasn't a single man in their family, they simply abandoned them and went to flee the famine.
Now that we know they're doing well, they're causing trouble and demanding money. How ridiculous!
As soon as she pushed open the door, she was met with Lu Cijian's worried gaze. She was taken aback. "You've been here the whole time?"
She thought the man had left with the village chief.
Lu Cijian nodded, his gaze falling on Jiang Yimian's face. After a while, he said, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to eavesdrop on your conversation."
He was just a little worried.
I worry that Mianmian is like Aunt Wang, feeling sad inside but putting on a brave face.
Although he hadn't experienced much warmth from his family, he knew that once hope was in his heart, having it shattered by those people would multiply the pain and heartache.
Jiang Yimian simply smiled and said, "I'm not as fragile as you think."
She was indeed quite angry, but that was all.
Those things are already a done deal. After going through so much, the sadness I felt when I learned that Jiang Qingyuan had been conscripted has faded considerably.
Her anger was mostly influenced by the original owner's emotions, and partly by the fact that the second wife's family members were too shameless and selfish.
As I was in silence, I suddenly felt a warm touch on my palm.
She paused, looking down at the large, well-defined hand that enveloped her.
The boy's palms were dry, with a few thin calluses on his fingers. His rough, large hands tightly enveloped hers, warm yet strong, which dissipated most of the emotions she couldn't suppress.
Lu Cijian stared intently at her with his dark eyes, his tone more serious than ever before, with a hint of barely perceptible ruthlessness, "Mianmian, what do you want to do? I can help you."
No matter what Mianmian wants to do, he will always stand by her side.
Jiang Yimian just smiled, met those serious black eyes, and said with a bit of a laugh, "You don't think I want to kill them, do you?"
Don't worry, I won't do that.
They died like that; it's too easy for them.
Lu Cijian paused for a moment, and seeing that the other person's nonchalant attitude wasn't feigned, he breathed a slight sigh of relief. However, he tightened his grip on the other person's hand, showing no intention of letting go, and simply nodded earnestly, saying, "Mianmian can do whatever she wants."
Just then, Zhao Dashu and the others called out worriedly from outside the courtyard.
"Sister Mian, Auntie, are you alright?"
Zhao Dashu was stunned when he came in. His gaze lingered on Jiang Yimian's hands, which had already separated, for a while before he asked worriedly, "Sister Mian, I just went down the mountain to help with the land reclamation when I heard the village chief say that someone was causing trouble. How are you? Are you hurt?"
If he had known those people were coming, he certainly wouldn't have gone back to the small depression.
Now, only Sister Mian and her aunt are left to deal with those bastards.
Zhao Erhei and Wang Xiaohei walked in from outside, their faces covered in sweat and full of worry. They looked at Jiang Yimian carefully, almost as if they were about to rush over to check her out.
Jiang Yimian looked at their panicked expressions and could only feel helpless. "I'm fine, you can go back to your work."
Zhao Dashu and the others looked at her carefully again, and only breathed a sigh of relief when they were sure she was alright. They asked a few more questions about Wang Fengqin's condition and, upon learning that there was indeed nothing wrong, they left with peace of mind.
