Chapter 22 Finding the Cave

Startled, she quickly searched the woods, only to find the little guy holding a rabbit in his hand, his eyes filled with joy.

As soon as he saw Jiang Yimian, the little guy waved his hand proudly, "Sister, I caught a rabbit, wasn't I amazing?"

That rabbit was cunning and fast; if it hadn't wandered into the thorn bush in its panic, he probably wouldn't have caught it today.

Jiang Yimian could only sigh helplessly as she carefully examined the small blood lines on Xiao Ye's hand from the thorns. Only after confirming that there were no serious wounds did she breathe a sigh of relief. She then gave the little guy a light tap on the forehead and said irritably, "Don't run around like that next time. I'll worry if I can't find you."

Ono chuckled, the slight pain on his forehead unable to conceal his joy. They entered the woods, carrying baskets, and the two happily went home.

Several more days passed, and all was well on and off the mountain. The villagers had no intention of going up the mountain, which relieved the villagers who had been living in fear for several days.

Liu Dayong stopped patrolling the area around the shack and went to do his own thing.

We haven't gone out to dig for wild vegetables for several days, and we're running out of vegetables to eat at home.

The others stopped paying attention to what was happening down the mountain and went about their own business.

Jiang Yimian finally found a cave today.

The cave was several hills away from the hut, a journey that would take two hours. This was only because Jiang Yimian was fast on her feet; if she were carrying other people and making frequent stops, it would take at least three hours.

The journey involved traversing several deep, dense forests and climbing numerous steep hillsides. Had she not marked the path along the way, she might not have been able to find her way home.

Looking at the cave in front of her, which was deeply buried by weeds, Jiang Yimian was somewhat satisfied.

This place is deep in the mountains, surrounded by dense forests and hillsides. It's not easy to find, not to mention that there are some low shrubs and weeds taller than a person growing at the entrance of the cave. If she hadn't been sharp-eyed and careful, she would never have been able to find this cave at all.

She took out her dagger, carefully parted the weeds and bushes, and bent over to enter the cave.

The cave was dimly lit, and the entrance, which was about half a person's height, was covered by weeds. There was no light source inside, and apart from the area around the entrance, it was pitch black inside.

Jiang Yimian took out a flashlight that she had previously stored in her spatial storage, and the moment she turned it on, the dark cave was illuminated.

The cave was quite large. Apart from the somewhat low entrance, it was more than three meters high inside, and probably about twenty square meters in size. The ground was covered with withered branches, rotten leaves, and dust.

Inside the cave entrance was a large rock, two meters long, covered in dust.

Jiang Yimian guessed that the cave used to be inhabited by large wild animals, but now the animals had probably moved away, and there had been no signs of any biological activity for a long time.

She looked around again and breathed a sigh of relief only after confirming that the cave was safe. She then took out a lot of pots and pans, rice and flour, as well as some frozen goods such as pork belly and chicken that she had scavenged in the town from her spatial storage.

They also put in some commonly used items such as sieves, winnowing baskets, and carrying baskets, and even stuffed a few bolts of cloth and a few sets of clothes into the carrying baskets, and then covered the carrying baskets with winnowing baskets to prevent dust from falling in.

Having done all this, Jiang Yimian was about to leave when she suddenly noticed a cave entrance behind the large rock, hidden by a protruding cave wall.

She was startled; she had been so careless that she hadn't noticed the hidden opening. If there had been any danger in the cave, she would probably be in trouble by now.

After a moment of annoyance, she took out the small dagger with the hook and shone her flashlight toward the cave entrance.

Only after confirming that there was nothing hiding did she walk over.

The opening in front of us is small, only wide enough for one person to pass through.

If she wants to stay here safely, she naturally needs to understand the surrounding environment so that she can easily handle any danger on her own.

Thinking about it, she went inside.

There was nothing particularly special about the cave, except that it was a bit small and excessively long.

After walking for nearly half an hour, we finally saw the end.

The entrance at the end of the cave was still only wide enough for one person to pass through, but unlike the entrance, it was not pitch black. Dazzling light streamed in from the exit, illuminating the cave.

Jiang Yimian put away her flashlight and quickened her pace towards the cave entrance, emerging from the cave shortly afterward.

The sudden opening of her view made her feel instantly relaxed, and the frustration she had felt from the narrow path finally dissipated after she saw the scenery before her.

Beneath their feet lay a flat, soft-soiled area, unlike the gravelly ground near the shacks where crops were difficult to grow. This flat ground was a good place to grow crops.

But what lay before them was a lush, verdant forest, not to mention the exceptionally abundant wild grass on the ground.

If we want to farm, we need to cut down these trees, which looks like a huge undertaking.

Jiang Yimian wandered around the woods again and found that the woods were in a depression, surrounded by either high hillsides or cliffs. It was unlikely that anyone would come here, and it was estimated that no one would find it even if the world ended.

They are safe here, and they can even farm. It's much safer than when they were on the mountain.

She needs to tell her family that she won't stop anyone else from coming with her.

After all, these are several living, breathing human lives.

Jiang Yimian searched the forest again and found no trace of wild animals. She then sprinkled insect repellent powder at the two cave entrances, covered the cave entrances, and hurried back to the hut.

When she returned to the shack, the stars and moon were shining brightly, and the sky was dark.

Wang Fengqin was extremely anxious. Just as she was hesitating about sending someone to look for her, she finally saw Jiang Yimian returning with a small torch.

Little Nuan'er was the first to see her, and she excitedly called out from a distance, "Sister, sister is back!"

Ono was also quite pleased and quickly went forward to greet him.

Wang Fengqin and Liu Xiaoyun breathed a sigh of relief.

"Sister Fengqin, I told you Yimian wouldn't get into trouble. She's so smart, she can handle any problem she encounters."

Liu Xiaoyun smiled and reassured her.

According to Gou Sheng, if Jiang Yimian hadn't been quick-witted, they would have been left behind in the village last time.

She thought Yi Mian was amazing back then, and now that she saw her walking safely back from the dark forest, she admired her even more.

Wang Fengqin breathed a sigh of relief and didn't say anything this time. She just saw that the other woman was covered in sweat, handed her daughter some warm water, wiped her sweat, and then said, "Are you hungry? Come and eat. Why did you take so long today?"

Although she was worried, she knew that Yi Mian had her own reasons for doing everything, and she couldn't understand or stop her.

Besides, the fact that Yi Mian was able to bring Gou Sheng back safely that day showed that Yi Mian was capable of protecting herself.

Therefore, even as the moon rose high in the sky, she did not frantically call for help, but instead waited anxiously outside the shack.
