Chapter 28 Leaving Together

Holding her daughter, Zhao Xing'er saw her husband covered in blood and burst into tears. Just as she was about to rush out, several wood-chopping knives blocked her way, causing her to stop in her tracks and cry out, "Husband, husband."

The tall, thin man glanced at Zhao Xing'er, then raised his leg to kick Liu Dayong again.

Unexpectedly, just as he bent his leg, a dagger flew out of the woods and pierced deeply into his calf.

The pain made his face change drastically, and he collapsed to the ground, cursing, "Ouch! Where did this bastard come from? How dare he ambush your grandfather? Doesn't he want to live?"

Before he could finish speaking, Jiang Yimian knocked him down with a rock, and a large amount of blood gushed from his head instantly.

Seeing their brother die before their eyes, the refugees panicked. When they saw that it was a girl who had done it, they felt much relieved, but their eyes were still full of resentment.

"Where did this wild girl come from, daring to lay a hand on us? I think you don't want to live anymore."

Jiang Yimian ignored the men's anger and simply bent down to pull the dagger out of the man's body.

Seeing that they were being ignored, the men became angry.

"Brother, why waste words with a wild girl like her? Let's grab her and take her back to teach her a lesson."

"That's right. We only managed to kill Brother Gao by sneak attack. I don't believe we can't handle a little girl."

Jiang Yimian was too lazy to listen to their nonsense and said coldly, "Come at me all at once."

She needed to finish this quickly; the people on the ground had lost too much blood and it was uncertain whether they were still breathing.

Upon hearing that they were to attack together, the men immediately felt insulted, cursed a few times, and then grabbed their machetes and slashed at Jiang Yimian.

Jiang Yimian nimbly dodged, her curved dagger flashing up and down. In a few leaps, the man beside her fell to the ground, leaving only a bright red wound on his neck.

Zhao Xing'er and the others stared wide-eyed, but the girl in her arms, who seemed to be stunned, brightened up.

This older sister is amazing.

Jiang Yimian, unaware of their thoughts, simply said, "You two pack your things. You go check if there are any survivors on the ground. We'll leave soon. Those people down the mountain won't let us go. It's no longer safe here."

Zhao Xing'er nodded repeatedly and led her daughter into her own shack.

Liu Dayong followed Jiang Yimian to check on the villagers on the ground who had been beaten to death by the refugees and were now in a state of uncertainty.

"Father, Father, how are you? Yi Mian, Yi Mian, come quickly and see, my father is still alive."

Liu Dayong hugged Old Man Liu, crying with tears and snot streaming down his face, which looked rather comical.

Jiang Yimian glanced at the old man in the other woman's arms, whose face was covered in blood, and then took his pulse to make sure he was alright before saying, "Your father is fine, he just fainted from fright."

That old man is lucky; she thought he had died from blood loss.

Liu Dayong was somewhat incredulous. He wiped away his tears and said in horror, "But, but my father lost so much blood."

"That, that's not mine, it, it belongs to someone else," Old Liu stammered. When he opened his eyes and saw his son crying his eyes out, he immediately became dissatisfied. "You unfilial son, you wish I were dead, what are you crying for? Hurry up and pack your things and leave."

Liu Dayong nodded repeatedly, helped the old man up, and quickly went to pack his things.

Jiang Yimian went to check on the others. Several people were lying haphazardly on the ground, their eyes wide open in anger, their bodies covered in bright red blood.

She reached out and closed their eyes before getting up and leaving.

When the group arrived at Gousheng's house, they had already packed their bags.

I said I was packing things, but there wasn't much to pack. We didn't have much food to begin with, and after spending more than half a month on the mountain, we had almost nothing left. After the commotion this morning, there was even less left.

The group of people were somewhat flustered after escaping death.

Old Liu, holding his bundle, looked at Jiang Yimian and said, "Yimian, where are we going? I think those people down the mountain are after us. There are ten men coming up, and they're all so tough."

At first, he thought the other party was going to steal his grain, so he quickly gave away his own grain. Unexpectedly, those people didn't even glance at it, kicked it to the ground, and then slashed the others to death with a few blows.

Only then did they realize something was wrong, but it was too late to resist.

Those men were all strong and burly, and ruthless; they were no match for these peasants.

He was so frightened that he fainted immediately, and when he woke up again, the floor was a mess.

Jiang Yimian frowned. "Ten? That means there are only nine corpses."

She had just counted the number of people, and even including the one in the woods, there were only nine people. Where did the ten come from?

Seeing her confusion, Liu Dayong quickly said, "At first, ten people went up the mountain, but then it became chaotic, and that person may have run away when he saw that things were not going well."

Jiang Yimian knew in her heart that something was wrong. The other person must have rushed down the mountain to report the news as soon as they saw her arrive. She really couldn't stay here any longer.

"Let's get out of here quickly, we can't stay any longer."

After saying this, Jiang Yimian decided to leave first.

Seeing this, the others quickly followed.

Liu Dayong carried Chen Tiezhu and lagged behind, but fortunately he didn't fall behind.

The group walked for two hours straight, covering only about half the distance.

Seeing that everyone was exhausted and covered in sweat, yet none of them dared to suggest stopping, Jiang Yimian simply said, "Let's rest in the shade for a while."

Hearing this, everyone breathed a sigh of relief.

They were already old and injured, and hadn't had enough to eat in recent days, so they certainly didn't have much strength.

Seeing that Jiang Yimian, a young girl, didn't complain about being tired and was walking very fast, they could only grit their teeth and keep up.

During a break, Jiang Yimian checked Liu Dayong's head injury again. Fortunately, it only looked scary and wasn't a big problem.

The others only suffered minor injuries.

She then handed the water bag and two flatbreads from her basket to everyone, saying, "Have something to eat first."

She ate breakfast this morning, so she's fine now.

The others were already starving, and as soon as they saw food and water, they immediately took it and started eating.

Zhao Xing'er handed Liu Daya two small pieces of cake, but she didn't eat any herself. Instead, she watched Liu Dayong's swollen face and shed tears.

Liu Daya ate her pancake silently, her eyes glazed over, only glancing at Jiang Yimian from time to time.

Jiang Yimian had noticed the little girl early on. Seeing her looking at her, she smiled and walked over to her. "What's wrong? Did the pancakes not taste good?"

Liu Daya quickly shook her head, "Okay, it's delicious."

"Then why do you keep looking at me?"

"Sister is pretty, Da Ya likes her."

Jiang Yimian was taken aback, then smiled and reached out to pat Da Ya's head.

I heard from the villagers that Daya has mental problems. She is thirteen years old, but her behavior is that of a two or three-year-old.

She didn't think the other person was stupid; he was just a child who would never grow up, which was fine.
