Chapter 63 Spicy Konjac Noodles

Although Liu Xiaoyun and Zhao Xing'er had never eaten konjac before, they had heard that it was poisonous. When they saw that Jiang Yimian was really going to eat it, they quickly reminded her, "Yimian, this is no joke. Eating this stuff will make you feel unwell. We just had a good harvest recently, so we have enough food. Don't bother with this stuff."

If you really get poisoned, how awful that would be! The toxicity is so strong, how could it possibly be neutralized after simple boiling?

Jiang Yimian just smiled and didn't say much. Instead, she took the badger and three rabbits out of the basket and said with a smile, "I found some prey in that trap today, and there was a badger that was quite big. I'll share some with you."

Although Liu Xiaoyun and Zhao Xinger were surprised, they quickly waved their hands, "No, Yimian, since you found this, you can take it back and eat it yourselves. It's good for Xiaoye and Xiaonuan to nourish their bodies. I think the two little ones have gotten a bit fatter in their faces, but their heads still haven't grown."

The two children, who were playing with Mimi, immediately became dissatisfied upon hearing this.

Little Nuan'er pouted and said in her childish voice, "Little Nuan'er is not short. If I eat more, I will definitely grow taller quickly."

Ono, standing to the side, nodded repeatedly. He hadn't grown much because he hadn't eaten properly before, but he was sure he would grow tall in the future.

The two little ones amused everyone, but no one wanted to share the prey.

Jiang Yimian felt somewhat helpless. Seeing that neither of them was willing to share the badger, she had no choice but to give the two families some rabbits before leaving.

All three rabbits were thin and small, not as plump as the ones Jiang Yimian raised herself. Jiang Yimian had never intended to give the rabbits to either of the two families in the first place.

Firstly, rabbits are small and don't have much meat to eat; secondly, almost every household raises them, so they can eat rabbit meat from time to time, which isn't anything new.

As soon as she entered the house, Jiang Yimian poured the konjac into clean water and washed it thoroughly before applying oil to her hands to prevent contact with the konjac juice from causing an allergic reaction and itching.

After doing all that, she moved a small stool over and sat down to peel the fruit.

Although Wang Fengqin was still worried that the konjac might be poisonous, she didn't say much and just helped out from the side.

She silently thought to herself, if it really was poisonous, she would try a bite first, and she would definitely not let the children taste it.

It wasn't that she didn't believe Yi Mian could detoxify, but she was mainly worried that konjac was too toxic. Old Liu had only eaten a small bite back then and it had caused him a lot of trouble for days, so they had to be careful.

Jiang Yimian was unaware of Wang Fengqin's thoughts and was focused on making konjac.

After peeling several palm-sized konjac balls, Jiang Yimian found a rough stone slab, cleaned it, and placed it in a wooden basin. She then rubbed the konjac balls on the stone slab to extract a white slurry.

By the time the kneading was finished, the basin was already half full of konjac paste.

Jiang Yimian then got some wood ash water, poured it into the basin, stirred it, and then set the basin aside to rest.

After settling for a while, and waiting for the konjac paste in the basin to solidify into a gel-like consistency, Jiang Yimian used a kitchen knife to remove the densest part in the center, crushed it into thin slices, and put it into a pot to cook and set.

Once the gelatinous substance in the pot had completely solidified, she covered the pot and cooked it for more than an hour before using a spatula to scoop it into cold water and set it aside.

Wang Fengqin watched with curiosity, her eyes lighting up. "You can do this with konjac? I thought you just peel it and eat it directly!"

I never imagined I could make something like this, similar to Guanyin tofu, but more complicated.

Jiang Yimian smiled, then cut the remaining konjac in the bowl into small pieces and threw them into the pot to cook before saying, "What's cooked is the konjac tendon, the part with the best texture. It'll taste great when we make a cold salad later. The rest of the konjac can be used for stir-fries, soups, or cold salads."

She didn't dig up many konjac plants, so this was the most convenient way to process them.

After we dig up more konjac in a few days, we can grind it into powder, dry it, and store it for longer. It will also be more convenient to eat it whenever we want.

Wang Fengqin nodded, still somewhat hesitant. Just as she was wondering if the thing was still poisonous, she saw Jiang Yimian take the konjac tendon out, cut it into thin strips, put it in a plate, add chili sauce, scallions, ginger, and garlic, mix it in the plate, and then hand it to her.

"Mom, would you like to try some? It tastes really good."

Just smelling the aroma made Wang Fengqin dizzy, but a sliver of reason remained in her mind, and she hesitated before saying, "I'll try a little first, you guys don't eat yet."

After saying that, he took the chopsticks, picked up a small piece of konjac tendon, and reluctantly put it into his mouth.

She didn't care anymore; she would accept being poisoned as long as she didn't die.

The moment she tasted the konjac, its chewy and smooth texture, combined with the aroma of chili and scallions, made her unable to stop eating it. It was so delicious that she almost couldn't resist taking another bite.

But she didn't have time to savor the taste of konjac; she was only concerned with the state of her mouth and throat, fearing that she might experience symptoms of poisoning.

I frowned and waited for a while, but the uncomfortable symptoms did not appear.

Seeing that she didn't speak, Jiang Yimian assumed that the konjac was not tasty and asked curiously, "Is it not tasty?"

That shouldn't be the case. Even if there aren't enough seasonings, it's impossible to make konjac noodles as perfect as those on the market. But she was certain that the taste of this plate of konjac noodles was definitely not bad.

That chili sauce was made by her own hands; it's very fragrant and spicy, and it makes stir-fries and cold dishes very delicious. There's no reason why it wouldn't be delicious when mixed with konjac.

Just as Yi Mian was about to try the konjac on the plate, Wang Fengqin quickly stopped her, "Yi Mian, don't eat it yet, eat it later."

Jiang Yimian was full of questions. "Why?"

Wang Fengqin hurriedly and seriously said, "Wait a while and I'll check if you've been poisoned. If you're fine, then you can eat."

Jiang Yimian was amused by the other party's serious expression, and said helplessly, "Mom, don't worry, konjac is not poisonous once it's cooked. You can eat it without worry."

She thought the konjac dessert was bad, but little did she know that her mother was actually waiting to be poisoned.

She's not Liu Dayong; why would she give poisonous things to her own family?

Wang Fengqin paused, about to say something more, when she saw Jiang Yimian also pick up a piece of konjac and eat it. After observing the other person for a while and confirming that there were no signs of poisoning, she breathed a sigh of relief.

Jiang Yimian found it amusing and simply invited Xiao Nuan'er and Xiao Ye to try the konjac dessert.

Upon hearing that there was something delicious to eat, the two little ones immediately put down Mimi, whose head was covered in flowers, and ran over excitedly.

Jiang Yimian fed each of the two little ones some, but because it was a bit spicy, she didn't dare to feed them too much.

Little Nuan'er's eyes sparkled as she ate, slurping and nodding, "So spicy! So delicious! Little Nuan'er loves it!"

It was spicy and fragrant, and it was the first time she had ever eaten something like this. Just as she was about to open her mouth to wait to be fed again, Jiang Yimian quickly took the plate away, reached out and rubbed the little one's head, saying, "It's too spicy. Next time, wait for your sister to make something that isn't spicy, and then you can eat it."

The two little ones can't handle spicy food very well, so they only need a taste; she's afraid they won't be able to handle too much.

Although it was a bit of a shame they couldn't eat more, the two little ones nodded emphatically and went back to playing with Mimi.

Jiang Yimian then cut some more konjac tendons, divided them into two portions, added seasonings, and took two pieces of the freshly cooked konjac from the pot to the Chen and Liu families.
