Jiang Yimian and her group first went to check several of the dug traps and found that some of them had trapped rabbits and pheasants, while the others had not been disturbed.
I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.
Gou Sheng, carrying the rabbit, looked unhappy and muttered under his breath, "I was catching people, why are you the only ones here?"
He was a little confused for a moment, wondering whether the traps were too attractive to rabbits and pheasants, or whether other large wild animals were trapped but quickly escaped.
The thought of this possibility made him feel somewhat disappointed, fearing that the same outcome would occur if people were trapped.
Jiang Yimian noticed his confusion and simply smiled as she explained, "Those wild animals are very wary. They will leave early if they detect anything unusual, and they won't foolishly step into a trap."
Moreover, they are very territorial and rarely leave their territory for long. In addition, after the wildfire six months ago, large wild animals have long since fled into deeper forests and will not linger here.
Gou Sheng nodded and stopped dwelling on the issue.
Zhao Dashu and his companion were overjoyed, seeing that they could eat meat again, and felt that staying in the small depression was the best decision they had ever made in their lives.
Before, when they were fleeing famine, they would go hungry nine times in three days. Now, in this small depression, they eat their fill at every meal. Although they have never seen these things before, they taste very good, which makes them feel very excited.
In particular, we can eat meat from time to time, which is better than even in the village.
No matter what others say, they will never leave the small depression again.
Jiang Yimian went to other places for a walk. Apart from a few traps that had been trampled by wild rabbits and pheasants, the rest were intact.
After repairing the trap, the group went outside again, planning to set up a few small traps, hoping to catch some wild game.
Since it wasn't a big project, Jiang Yimian stayed by the side, playing with Mimi and looking for wild vegetables and medicinal herbs.
There are many autumn wild vegetables at this time of year. Although they are not as tender as spring wild vegetables, they have a unique flavor.
Jiang Yimian looked around and actually found it.
Several clusters of plants were growing just right, reaching about knee-high, with large green leaves growing outwards and red spots showing on their backs.
Several of the taller plants have already sprouted red spikes.
It is amaranth.
Amaranth, also known as wild gooseberry, old boy, and Yunxiangcai, has a sweet taste and is effective in moisturizing the intestines and clearing heat.
The tender leaves are the most delicious; they are excellent for making soup, stir-frying, or cold dishes.
Jiang Yimian plucked some not-too-old leaf tips and didn't stop until she had filled a small half-full basket.
Mimi was incredibly excited, leaping through the grass a few times and emerging with a sparrow in her beak.
Jiang Yimian smiled, ignored it, and continued to wander through the woods.
After walking for a short while, I saw several clusters of plants that were about half a person tall. The green, long oval leaves had some fine hairs on them, and many of them were blooming with yellow flowers. Some of them had already produced slender pods.
It looks like cassia seeds.
Cassia seeds have the effects of clearing the liver and improving eyesight, as well as moistening the intestines and relieving constipation.
The Compendium of Materia Medica records that cassia seeds are "famous for their ability to improve eyesight".
However, raw cassia seeds are cold in nature and should not be taken for a long time. They must be stir-fried before they can be used in medicine.
In this way, it can also enhance the effects of protecting the liver and improving eyesight, as well as lowering lipids.
People with weak spleen and stomach should use it sparingly, as it may cause diarrhea. (Source: Internet)
Jiang Yimian reached out and picked the plump bean pods one by one until her basket was full before she stopped.
I heard a while ago that Zhao Dashu and the other two have been suffering from severe constipation. Taking this back will be perfect for them.
She looked around the area again and found many cassia seed roots that had not yet grown pods. She silently noted their locations and planned to come back to check on them in a while.
Jiang Yimian, estimating that Gou Sheng and the others had finished their work, led Mimi back the way they came.
Zhao Dashu and his group were resting under the shade of a tree when they saw her return. They waved to her repeatedly, clearly in a good mood.
Gou Sheng just laughed and said, "Sister Yi Mian, isn't it a coincidence? We just dug a trap and another rabbit fell in. But it looks like it's about to die. There are also two other dead rabbits and a pheasant. We've had a great haul today!"
He will definitely come to check on it every day from now on, so that he can eat fresh rabbits. If it's like this time, and a longer interval is made, the rabbits will go bad.
Jiang Yimian was somewhat surprised. She glanced at the injured and unconscious rabbit, noticing that the wound looked like it had been stabbed by something.
Seeing her staring at the rabbit, Gou Sheng just laughed and said, "I don't know where this rabbit came from, it lost too much blood and fainted."
Zhao Dashu quickly added, "It was probably those refugees on the outskirts who did it. I didn't expect my aim to be so bad that the rabbit got away."
They ended up getting the better deal.
Jiang Yimian responded without giving it much thought, and was about to leave once she finished her business.
Mimi suddenly became excited, jumping and running around in circles, refusing to leave even when called.
Jiang Yimian frowned and was about to reach out to pick up the other person when Mimi suddenly darted out of the woods at great speed, before anyone could react.
Zhao Dashu asked curiously, "What's wrong with Mimi? Has something happened?"
Mimi is usually very obedient, especially around Jiang Yimian. Her unusual behavior today must mean something is wrong.
Jiang Yimian frowned and said, "Erhei, you take the prey back first, and the rest of us will go and take a look."
Zhao Erhei nodded, took the prey from Zhao Dashu, and left first.
Jiang Yimian and the other two chased after Mimi.
After running all the way, crossing several mountain peaks, Mimi finally stopped, sniffing the surroundings warily. Jiang Yimian finally grabbed the little one by the scruff of her neck and scolded, "If you run around like that again next time, I won't take care of you."
