Chapter 83 Falling Victim

The next day, Gou Sheng and Liu Dayong left the small depression early in the morning, planning to patrol near Lu Cijian's wooden house for the next few days, fearing that if people really came, Lu Cijian would not be able to handle it alone.

As soon as Jiang Yimian came out of the house, she saw Old Liu leading Zhao Dashu and a few others weeding in the small vegetable garden and field.

With the help of Zhao Dashu and the others these days, everyone's life has become much easier. They no longer have to be busy in the fields all the time and have some free time.

Zhao Xing'er was weaving cloth in the courtyard. The hemp thread had been glutinous rice-strengthened, and now it looked just like the cheap hemp thread sold in the shop.

Jiang Yimian watched curiously from the side, but was dazzled by the shuttle that Zhao Xing'er was using to move back and forth. She then went to watch Liu Xiaoyun herd chickens.

Watching her lay eggs is more suitable for her.

Seeing that she was helping to find the eggs that the hen had laid in the woods, Liu Xiaoyun just smiled and said, "Why don't you go and learn to make clothes from Sister Fengqin? Your mother is very skilled with her hands. I think the winter clothes she altered for Xiaoye and Xiaonuan are also very nice."

Although it was made from old clothes, you can't tell at all. The stitches are fine and the workmanship is exquisite, making it pleasing to the eye.

Jiang Yimian quickly shook her head; she didn't want to poke holes in every finger again, she wasn't cut out for making clothes.

Seeing the other person's expression change drastically in fright, Liu Xiaoyun found it amusing and didn't ask any more questions. The two of them just kept herding the chickens while searching in the grass, afraid of missing the fresh eggs.

These days, she has hatched several more broods of chicks, which have grown quite a bit. Together with the original chickens in the coop, there are now more than a dozen of them, big and small.

It was tiring to gather grass for the chickens every day, so she simply let them out. She would drive them into the woods every day to find food on their own, and then drive them back before dark.

The two chatted casually as they searched for eggs, and time flew by; it was almost noon.

Jiang Yimian frowned, somewhat puzzled that Lu Cijian hadn't made a move yet. Could it be that Liu Dafei and his brother hadn't told anyone about their encounter?

She felt it was unlikely; given the two brothers' jealous nature, they would surely spread the news.

Almost an hour later, Gou Sheng rushed back and said hurriedly, "Sister Yi Mian, those people are here. Let's go help them quickly."

Jiang Yimian and Old Man Liu stood up abruptly, called Zhao Dashu, and the three of them quickly followed Gou Sheng away.

When the group arrived, Liu Dayong was anxiously standing in front of the wooden house, while Lu Cijian, on the other hand, looked calm and was sitting on a low stool nearby, whittling bamboo arrows.

Liu Dayong breathed a sigh of relief when he saw the group arrive, but still looked troubled as he said, "There are quite a few of them, a total of fifteen, including the Dafei brothers."

He had originally thought that those people probably wouldn't come, since Dafei was his cousin and he should at least consider their kinship. He never expected that these people would betray them like this and bring so many others with them.

He was both angry and worried. There were fifteen able-bodied young men, and they only had eight people, including Gou Sheng and Ci Jian, who were only half-grown children, and Yi Mian, a girl.

Old Liu was so angry that he glared and cursed, "Those two damned bastards actually brought people here!"

Even though he knew how despicable the Liu brothers were, he still couldn't believe it when he heard that they had actually brought people with them. He couldn't understand why the two of them would do such a thing.

They are blood relatives.

Just then, a loud "thump" was heard, followed by a deliberately suppressed groan.

The group instantly focused and headed straight for the woods not far away.

Wang Zhuzi frowned as he looked at the stone that had fallen from the tree. He breathed a sigh of relief when he saw that the other person had only been hit on the foot and was not seriously injured. He then lowered his voice and reminded him, "Be careful, there are many traps in the woods."

He hadn't expected that there would be traps in this forest he had deliberately taken a detour through; he was indeed someone who could safely hide in the mountains for months.

Upon hearing this warning, everyone immediately became alert, carefully observing the surrounding trees, afraid of stepping into another trap.

Sure enough, the group immediately noticed something strange under a tree and stopped to avoid the trap.

The two Liu brothers followed behind the crowd in fear, regretting their decision to come along, but worried that Wang Zhuzi would not share the grain with them, so they had no choice but to grit their teeth and follow.

While they were thinking, they lost their focus and didn't notice the path under their feet. The two of them fell into a two-meter-deep pit covered by withered grass.

With a loud thud, the two men fell so hard that they saw stars and felt like their bones were about to shatter.

Fortunately, there were no sharp weapons at the bottom of the pit; otherwise, they would probably have been killed on the spot.

Looking at the deep pit, Liu Xiaofei ignored the pain in his body and the cuts on his face from the branches. He was so frightened that he shouted upwards, "Brother Wang, help! Please help us get out of here!"

Wang Zhuzi frowned and only whispered, "Shut up."

However, it was too late. Several sharp bamboo arrows suddenly flew out from the woods on the side, startling the group into dodging. The traps they had discovered were also trampled by them.

For a moment, the forest was filled with screams and wails.

The short man and the skinny man stepped into the same narrow, deep hole, their legs pressed tightly together, and any movement caused them to be squeezed painfully by the cramped opening.

The others weren't much better off; some fell into deep pits, while others, like the short man, stepped into narrow holes and couldn't get out.

The woods were filled with groans and curses.

Wang Dazhu was suddenly left with only eight people. He quickly shouted, "Don't move!"

The others then stood still, cautiously looking around the woods.

Unfortunately, the dense forest obscured their view, and they couldn't see a single person.

Gou Sheng was overjoyed to see that the hole he had dug had trapped several people.

This trick was learned from the village bully. That guy was naughty and wicked, and he always liked to dig these cramped pits everywhere. Sometimes he would put sharpened bamboo tips at the bottom of the pit, causing many villagers to get injured.

He had also fallen into the pit before, but luckily his legs were short and he didn't step on the bamboo tips. It took him quite a bit of effort to pull his leg out of the pit.

This trap may not be very useful, but it's great for annoying people.

Old Liu breathed a sigh of relief when he saw that he had subdued the seven people in an instant.

Fortunately, Yi Mian reminded them to dig traps in this forest as well, otherwise they would have been facing these people instantly today.

It's hard to say whether they'll even survive by then.

The short man pulled hard on his leg, but it only aggravated the pain and did nothing to help. He was so angry that he shouted into the woods, "If you're so tough, come out and fight me one-on-one. What kind of coward is it to stab someone in the back?"

They've set up so many disgusting traps; they're a bunch of old bastards.

Hearing the curses, Gou Sheng was not angry at all, but rather a little excited. He finally understood why that little tyrant liked to dig traps to harm people.

It feels pretty good to see others angrily cursing at someone but unable to do anything about it.
