Chapter 169 Node Death
Krasnoyarsk Krai.
A009 core infection zone base.
Before long, the two arrived at the rendezvous point mentioned by An Rushi. To their great surprise, the place was completely sealed off by heavily armed soldiers. Logically speaking, the regular army had all withdrawn, and those remaining were either dead or missing. Apart from the secret agents sent out, it was impossible for a normal person to choose to stay.
The scene behind the protective fence was also extremely gruesome. In the shadows directly opposite, several wounded soldiers were carrying a corpse, its internal organs scattered everywhere.
As the car passed through the checkpoint, He Yu presented his ID card and terminal chip authentication.
They thought they would be able to pass through soon, but the barrier didn't move at all until a pale-faced soldier, with a cigarette in his mouth and looking as if he had just finished a bottle of whiskey, staggered over.
He Yu tossed a gun to Pandora, then rolled down the car window, his eyes filled with an unfathomable coldness.
Is there a problem?
He strongly suspected that Eoubs had not completed its evacuation plan—which, upon reflection, was indeed in line with their style.
"Hiccup—it's nothing serious. Your identity verification is correct. Welcome to Siberia, operative He Yu." The other person spoke with a heavy local accent, clearly someone who hadn't been learning for long, but it was still somewhat understandable.
"It's a pity that we have a grudge, and it's normal that you, being a busybody, can't remember. But it doesn't matter, anyway, the infection of 2407 is currently out of control."
As the soldier spoke, he let out a very strong-smelling burp, then lit a cigarette, took a deep drag, and exhaled all the smoke.
In that instant, He Yu had already mentally rehearsed what was about to happen. He would directly rip out the other person's spine and then insert that thing into his body from behind. If necessary, he could also use some of someone else's flesh and blood for lubrication along the way.
But he did not do that.
"Actor He Yu"
"You shouldn't have gotten involved in this fight, nor should you have killed those vicious dogs who are just like you."
"The spread of the gospel of heaven is all because of you."
"You might think that after being promoted to B05, you'll be the only one who matters in the world. I can only say... all those characters you've encountered are just clowns."
"You will get your comeuppance."
"And your expression... ha, it's just like a little girl who's lost in the garden, clearly unaware of what terrifying thing she's about to encounter."
The other person dropped all pretense and started making incredibly sarcastic remarks.
The person involved didn't react much, but Pandora couldn't hold back. She got out of the car, went straight to the soldier, raised her hand, and pulled the trigger.
Bang!
A gunshot rang out.
Pandora's face was splattered with blood, which she wiped off hastily, making her look a bit disheveled, and her hair was a little messy.
She raised her hand to smooth the tuft of hair sticking up on the top of her head, and He Yu suddenly looked up at her.
There was something very unfamiliar in his expression, as if the usually cold and dark part of his body had been ignited, making him look somewhat ferocious yet familiar at first glance.
Those were the shadowy figures that flashed by in the occasional killings, and they were curious and interested in what new prey or treasure had appeared—because it had finally reappeared before them.
Pandora looked at him, puzzled, while simultaneously putting a piece into her mouth.
"So that's how it is. The interior is a completely chaotic spacetime, with countless groups of individuals from different batches existing within the same node."
"Those voices... were too crazy."
"Even fragments of the 'Rules of Fate' are among them... No wonder it has attracted so many people."
"Even I find it incredible."
"Sorry, but what the hell are you talking about all of astronomy all of a sudden?" Pandora was horrified. How come even you're becoming a riddle-maker? Is this thing contagious?
He Yu simply shook his head, his smile carrying a sharp and dangerous undertone, like a poison-laden blade reflecting a cold white light under the fluorescent lights on either side.
He got out of the driver's seat, his expression returning to normal, and spoke clearly, not intending to explain in detail: "It doesn't matter, let's kill them all first."

Vladivostok.
A008 Infection Zone 1.
Carlos emerged from the burning church.
He limped, half his body covered in blood and wounds, but he carried the surrogate portrait given to him by Merlink, three pieces of kraft paper tied to his waist, and a bottle of suppressant.
He walked to the other side, threw his things on the ground, slowly climbed onto the bench, and curled up.
Merlink looked indifferently at his wounds, unsure whether his good partner would just curl up and die—the portrait had obviously been used once, the colors had faded.
"Have you confirmed whether it's real or fake?"
After a long silence, he asked.
Why don't you go and see for yourself?
No one answered; the atmosphere was heavy.
Finally, Merlink chose a safe spot to remove the parchment containing the 'rules of destiny' from Carlos.
"Who are you fighting this time?" he asked as he tossed the roll of paper into the painting. "Hey, keep your breath, don't die so quickly."
Carlos coughed up a mouthful of blood, looking quite angry, and replied with a pained expression, "Damn... don't even mention it, it's the remnant of another node."
