Chapter 285 Strange Objects
When He Yu woke up, he found himself standing at a crossroads, with only one wall in front of him—a job advertisement posted on it. A company urgently needed a mail carrier with very high professional ethics, and the salary was ridiculously generous.
The streetlights were very bright, and all the light was focused around him.
"A sign of distorted spacetime?"
"Or rather... I've returned to the very beginning, which is utterly absurd."
"Is all of this really confined to a crude typing machine, and I am merely a pathetic character in that book?"
"That's truly unbelievable."
As He Yu murmured to himself, the flow of time around him seemed to slow down until it came to a complete standstill, as if the plot of a movie had suddenly been paused.
Immediately afterwards, the pen that had disappeared reappeared from the void, and at the same time, the ink sac surrounding it burst forth with deep black lines. The two intertwined and rotated, eventually forming, as if by drawing a copy, a pair of lips that opened and closed, and began to utter mad words.
"I can smell the cruelty in your spirit."
"It's a pity there's too little... far too little."
"You weak-willed idiot."
"It's someone of my own kind!"
"So... are you willing to become a two-dimensional character in the book, or step out of the fourth wall, or reject them all?"
"Come on, make your choice."
The mouth-like human tissue emitted a hoarse, mixed language, and as it spoke, countless thick inks flowed from it, seeping into the ground.
He Yu reached out, trying to take it out of the void and hold it in his palm, but the strange thing seemed to have a mind of its own, and it sensed his thought. It changed its form and, like a miniature earpiece, firmly entered his ear, making it impossible to remove easily.
"And what are you?"
"It actually exists in the record pen of the rules of destiny."
He Yu really didn't expect that 832 and Sergio would carry such a thing with them. Could this be the truth about the multiverse that they have been worshipping?
The strange thing began to speak again, its keratinous connectors wriggling on his earlobe. Just as he reached out to wipe it away, these fixed technological creations spewed out large amounts of liquid graphite, which poured down He Yu's upper body in less than two seconds, forming a long, raging river—filled with twisted, glued-together, wailing human faces, intertwined and gnawing at each other, a scene of hell.
When he saw this grotesque and terrifying scene, many of the characteristics that had been calm within him began to show signs of collapse.
It's like encountering a natural enemy.
Countless character codes covered half of He Yu's body, and the quarter that was shrouded in them immediately felt excruciating pain.
The person involved seemed to be under a spell, with all their attention focused on the matter, unable to look away.
The strange creature's voice grew increasingly ethereal, as if it came from a desolate land with countless layers.
"The pen that records the rules?"
"That's utter garbage."
"My identity is far more complex than that..."
"That great thing that has altered the fate of all of you is nothing but a piece of junk that I can discard at any time."
"It's not just you."
"All existence outside this fourth wall—whether in the past or the future, any form of life."
"They are all just products of my imagination."
"Or rather... it was just a thought that flashed through my mind in an instant."
"All your actions, thoughts, and the various tragic events you experience."
"Even those invisible laws, the will."
"It all stemmed from those fleeting thoughts of mine."
"However, the fact that you have been sent here means that you are now qualified to possess a cruel mind."
Tell me, are you facing any difficulties?
He Yu is beyond question.
"Yes."
"My current situation is indeed not ideal, so how can you, who transcends the will of the universe, help me?"
As he spoke, he kept fiddling with the headset—damn, it took a lot of effort to remove it—and then stared at it intently—suddenly remembering who it had been on before, and felt a chill run down his spine.
"Hmm, that's interesting."
“Your words are full of sarcasm and ridicule, as well as distrust of me.”
"What I did is completely beyond your imagination."
"But you'll have to pay a price."
What can you exchange it for?
After he finished speaking, everything around him that had been frozen began to fast forward again. He Yu looked at all of this and surprisingly had the ability to move. He simply walked deeper into the neighborhood. At this moment, the scene presented in this accelerated world was just like a single frame extracted from an edited video, as if it could be frozen at will.
Not long after, following the direction he remembered, he arrived at a corner—the origin of this detour—where a poorly dressed man was looking around with a paper advertisement in his hand, seemingly going for a job interview.
Without hesitation, He Yu picked up a shard of glass from the ground and walked towards the target within the scene. But then, something strange happened: the other self standing blankly at the crossroads seemed like a phantom. No matter how he touched it, it simply passed through his body like a bubble.
You're oversimplifying things.
"This is indeed the past I've retraced, but within that point in time, you were simply a non-existent person."
"Everything that happens within this point is crucial."
