Chapter 311 Trouble is brewing
"Alright, let's end it here."
Like a bursting chicken cutlet exploding in a frying pan, the entire wasteland instantly transformed into a bloody feast. All the combat personnel and newly captured prisoners died instantly, squeezed into mincemeat by the invisible force of gravity.
A few seconds passed, and the only people left present were Mike Rong, Katherine, Hera, and Zelda—because Hamilton believed they could still be of help to him.
Because Hera was far away, she didn't get a drop of blood on her, but the others were different—the gushing out pulpy flesh rained down on them, giving them no chance to dodge and soaking them to the bone.
“Mike Rong and Katherine.”
“Your characteristics will be of great help to me. When we set off, you must do everything you can to let me control the suppression of mental power.”
"If it's really impossible, I won't force it. After all, besides He Yu, there shouldn't be anyone else who controls this level of operations right now."
“But you will lose your value as a result, and I don’t need useless people to follow me.”
"So when it comes to that, you'll have no choice but to die—of course, you're allowed to escape, but I'll hunt you down to the ends of the earth."
"Unless you are very lucky and escape before the Mirror of Eternal Dreams shatters."
"Once I get to the real world, I won't bother looking for you guys anymore. I'll probably just go back to Europe or cause a ruckus in North America."
"In short, you all understand."
Hamilton said this with a very calm expression.
The atmosphere was oppressive and silent, and the atmosphere seemed very pessimistic, making it completely unsuitable to offer any words of comfort.
Unexpectedly, Hera suddenly murmured something.
"Ah... they're all just caged birds."
“You never thought about how to fly out of Eoubs’ cage, so you think that everything that is happening now is just inevitable.”
"No matter what anyone says to you or what advice they give you, you'll just say—'Haha, that's what's recorded in the laws of destiny, something we can't escape, right?'"
She always appeared lost in thought, gazing at the wreckage scattered everywhere, her gaze sometimes serious, sometimes filled with doubt—as if these corpses were merely a pile of things lost in time, occasionally emerging from a catastrophic corner of hell, containing mystery and knowledge.
Zelda, being the number one lackey, naturally felt that this crazy woman must be of great significance to Hamilton, otherwise she wouldn't have survived until now, especially since she had previously uttered some outrageous remarks.
With just a thought, this person began to perform.
"Madam Knight Commander, you are right."
"I would gladly give my life for you, even unto death."
"What you said is absolutely right."
Hamilton walked over and slapped him across the face, making him stop talking such pointless nonsense.
“Just shells… everyone is just a shell.” Hera continued to mutter. “The authorities only understand a part of Wave Layer 2. You haven’t even realized that the dead have already appeared in that hell. Roy once told me that human moral standards are simply not suitable for survival in Wave Layer 2, especially for people like us… destined to be devoured by forbidden things. If we were in a TV series or novel, we would be the kind of supporting characters who are bound to die sooner or later… including him.”
"It's hard to predict exactly who will survive, and even the dead won't find peace."
Hamilton heard the name Roy again, the chief executioner of the Americas. He wondered what Roy was up to now. Rumor had it that his troublemaking brother had gotten into some trouble again. Oh well, it had nothing to do with him. He told himself to try not to think about it.
Hera's ravings held a deep abyss for him, much like the pile of rubbish that the person in charge kept emphasizing. You don't actually need to investigate the truth, because the consequences of knowing too much are unpredictable.
“I would never have said that before, even if Bell were here, she wouldn’t believe I would say it, but I think… sometimes it’s better to die sooner, at least you can suffer less,” Hera continued. “Don’t you think it’s tragic? Since Eoubs was founded, so many operatives have given their lives, their entire lives. They did so much, had so many dreams, and some of them are left here forever, and what did they get in the end?”
Zelda grimaced as he got up from the ground; the slap hadn't been forceful, but it had hurt quite a bit. He suddenly realized that this madwoman seemed to be speaking to someone else through them, someone from the depths of time.
She looked very sad and confused; it was a sorrow from a long time ago, with the wretched feeling of something consumable from an old era, but no matter how important it was in the past, it was no longer important.
He was thinking about whether to say something flattering, but then Hera stood up and walked towards the row of implanted drugs.
Then she said something that made Hamilton's pupils dizzy.
“An operative with futuristic vision died just 27 minutes ago.”
"This idiot was captured by the research institute before and used as an experimental subject, with tubes inserted into his brain to extract substances."
"But he got away, just by his ability to foresee the future and his fear of your aging. That's all. It's amazing. He doesn't have much fighting power and is just a burden. He's not even a B-rank, but he's reached the critical point."
Hera continued to add information gathered from the fragmented nodes—she was one with Bell, which was why she could see it.
"Your companion... is called Sergio, right?"
"He was resurrected, but lost his life again because of 659."
"It is a complete erasure from the timeline, an extinction that no one can bring back or reverse."
Hamilton never expected things to be so coincidental. He had only wanted to keep these people alive a little longer, but he ended up encountering someone like Hera, who even knew about Sergio.
"I'm not in the mood to listen to your long-winded rant."
"Like these three useless people, they have survived until now because of the advantages of their characteristics."
“But you just happened to mention Sergio—my most important friend.”
"He clearly resurrected, but was then killed by some bastard, right?"
"What a fucking disgrace... How did this idiot end up like this, being slaughtered like a pig?"
"I cannot accept this fact."
"I need more information now, information about everyone he came into contact with and everyone around him who was resurrected."
“Those bastards… I will make them pay the price.”
Hamilton wasn't joking.
