Chapter 313 Forced Landing
Minutes before the lightning struck the passenger plane.
Carlos stared at the notes he had just finished recording the source samples, looking completely lost in thought. For some reason, many absurd inner thoughts appeared on the pages, probably all from the predecessors of those samples—the people who were captured and brought to the experimental island.
I know you're all very sad. You're all incredibly hardworking people... but God is too busy; He can't take care of everyone. And you should have known that effort doesn't always guarantee a reward.
Merlink sat beside him, his brow furrowed as he stared at the new addition to the canvas—a blurry figure moving through the bone wall as if sleepwalking.
I heard what that person was saying, but it's perfectly normal for you to kill him, because after so many experiments, you've become that kind of creature... And this hell is also an arena piled up with countless pieces of flesh and blood. Darling, please don't blame yourself; we were just fighting for a way to survive.
"I think this content could be used as a novel; it's quite interesting." Carlos was incredibly bored. He knew that the notebook's unpredictability was among the highest of the forbidden items recorded by Eoubs; sometimes the commotion it caused was terrifying. Otherwise, he would have already reached B-level and spent his days indulging in a life of debauchery with the idiots in his mother's salon.
No… of course I wasn’t helping you. The only reason I accepted that experiment was because the one who controls power is too strong. He wants to create a kingdom without suffering, and we… are the victims. Nobody doesn’t want to survive. All the test subjects’ mutations have become very dangerous, but thankfully, some still think they are human. You see, those scum of the Heavenly Gospel turned him into this, but he still wants to exist as a human being.
Merlink suddenly realized that the changes to the taboo items on the two of them seemed to be the work of someone.
He suddenly stood up and listened intently to something.
"What's wrong? You have hemorrhoids?"
Carlos was somewhat confused.
Then, Merlink strode to the cabin window and stared straight out at a certain spot.
Two seconds later, he turned back to look at the easel still on his seat. The scene inside had changed again—dozens of grotesque creatures were hiding in a city made of bone walls. They stood in dark corners, their bodies blackish-red without flesh, their heads large, with hollow pupils faintly visible. Against the dark background, they seemed to be waiting for something.
Merlink suddenly looked at Carlos and said, "Did you hear that?"
He was taken aback; Merlink never spoke to him like that.
This old partner is very sparing with words, always putting on an arrogant act of "I have absolutely nothing to say to you and I'm too lazy to explain," or acting very meticulously, never leaving problems to himself, and always talking about their next steps and plans.
But at this moment, his words were neither one nor the other.
Carlos wondered if something had happened quietly, and the most terrifying thing was that they hadn't noticed it at all.
"I sprinkled that toner outside the cabin."
"They all self-destructed at the same time."
"Unaffected by any external factors, they chose their own demise."
Something has been watching them.
Merlink returned, grabbing his easel and palette, and slowly retreated to Carlos's side, saying, "It's too late. My special ability has too much of a cooldown. Use your notebook's ability to temporarily..."
The next second.
The lightning struck the passenger plane.
Immediately afterwards, news of the complete system failure reached everyone's ears.
However, these people did not act rashly, and did not even show any panic.
First of all, most of the people on this passenger plane had been implanted with samples of the Blood Source of All Things. Regardless of their social status, in terms of individual strength alone, they were many times stronger than normal people. It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that they were enhanced versions of Spider-Man.
Secondly, they didn't know what the situation was, whether the lightning was a natural phenomenon or a deliberate attack, who the attacker was, or whether the captain in the cockpit had reacted. Furthermore, and most foolishly, these high-ranking officials were used to being served, and when faced with any emergency, their first thought was that someone would step forward to handle it.
So for a short time, everyone just watched—and at the same time, they wanted to see if anyone else wanted to be a hero or something and jump out to do something for these "top-level people in society".
But Carlos and his companion, who had already anticipated that things wouldn't be so simple, wouldn't sit idly by—their most important task at the moment was to save themselves.
However, that's not easy either.
Because they also have to consider whether to voluntarily jump out of the plane, whether they will encounter lurking enemies en route, and how to deal with an attack if they are attacked. Should they fight in the air or return to the ground to start the battle?
Many factors can cause dramatic changes in the unpredictable future, so they must make a decision in a very short time.
However, another five seconds passed.
The passenger plane began to descend.
As for the speed... well, staying inside is a death sentence, as fast as his mother rushing to be reincarnated. If Superman were to come and block it, he'd probably have to take a deep breath from that dive force.
Of course, Carlos and his companion wouldn't be reduced to waiting to die in the cabin. Not to mention how many clones he could have taken his place, the ability to tamper with the notebook alone would allow them to return to the ground unharmed.
So, seeing the situation was dire, they decisively prepared to jump out of the plane. In the blink of an eye, they rushed into the crowd, ignoring what others thought. Merlink took out his paintbrush and dabbed a few times on himself, then raised his foot and delivered a straight kick, creating a three-meter-high hole in the bulkhead.
As for opening the hatch... please, all the systems are fucking shut down. If it could be opened, it would have been opened already. Why bother now?
The next second, taking advantage of the massive airflow from outside, he grabbed Carlos and jumped out.
Due to the drag, their descent slowed down considerably, and they even had time to adjust their attitude in the air. Although Carlos had already torn out two pages to activate the special ability, he couldn't very well land headfirst and get stuck in the ground, unable to pull himself out.
After they had everything ready, the plane carrying more than a hundred people from the Heavenly Gospel industry crashed. The impact was accompanied by a huge explosion, and thick smoke billowed up instantly, with a series of loud noises. The area hit happened to be a luxurious film and television production site. In less than two seconds, the entire complex began to collapse like a sandcastle being washed away by a tide.
This scene was naturally witnessed by the two of them.
But they had no time to lament.
Because something even worse is about to happen.
