Chapter Thirty-Seven: Conspiracy Theories

He rarely said anything unless absolutely necessary. Most of the time, He Yu was certain that their situation was not good; in fact, it was quite obvious, but he didn't know why this group of people hadn't noticed it before.

So he stood up, patted number three on the shoulder, said nothing more, and walked to the front of the line.

Yes, at this moment he is the only warrior left in the team, and it is only natural for him to take on the core role, which is also what the audience wants to see.

They ended their short rest, after all, no one wanted to stay near that underground river any longer, who knew if a snake or some other monster might jump out of the water and swallow them whole.

A dozen minutes later, as they passed another hall with statues, He Yu suddenly stopped. He glanced inside a few times, then stepped back and made a "you really know how to have fun" expression.

The group of three looked at each other in confusion. Marden gestured to ask what it was. After thinking for a few seconds, he decided it was better to let them go and see for themselves what was happening there.

Shield Boy clicked his tongue and muttered, "What other extraordinary thing could happen?" He peeked out, then withdrew and remained silent.

He Yu couldn't help but laugh, thinking that this idiot must now deeply understand his feeling that "you must see it with your own eyes." This is what makes a dramatic performance. It will never give you a moment to breathe because the content is so extraordinary that no one will miss it.

"Is that a vampire or a zombie?" Kreet said in a low voice.

"How could that be? This isn't a movie shoot." Woodstock also joined in the fun, glancing inside with eyes wide as a cow.

"Dude, this isn't a movie shoot, it's a live-action stage play." Number Three was a little speechless, but at this moment he seemed much more normal.

Behind the sculpture in the hall, there was a group of creatures with twisted limbs, wandering aimlessly. They were undoubtedly zombies—at least they met all the criteria for zombies in movies: grayish-white skin, horribly rotting skin, clearly indicating that they had been dead for a long time.

They watched from outside for a while longer, marveling at Beelzebub's audacity in putting such a devastating virus into a play. They knew he was a freak.

He Yu stared at the sickle on one of them. It was badly rusted, but it was still much better than their current equipment and could inflict some extra damage.

"Hey, do you guys think that son of a bitch Beelzebub might come up with some kind of punishment for inanimate objects?" Marden said whimsically. "Turning people into zombies, that's pretty creative."

Despite their thoughts, they ultimately chose to retreat quietly. Although those infected with the virus appeared sluggish, their movements were actually faster than imagined, and they were riddled with the disease. If they injured themselves while fighting, they would be punished along with the "dead creatures."

Only He Yu remained outside the hall, seemingly lost in thought. Only after the others urged him repeatedly did he leisurely follow, seemingly tossing something inside before leaving.

They passed through several more passages, trying to stay as far away from the mutated creatures as possible. Along the way, they encountered a giant leech-like thing, only it moved more nimbly and didn't secrete any slime. Number Three swiftly stabbed it to death.

Woodstock stared at the insect's corpse for a moment, then said, "Did you notice the underwater monster's mouth before? I've been thinking about it carefully now, and I think if it were a wild beast, its mouth couldn't open that wide. It must be a snake or some kind of insect. Beelzebub likes to mix in a lot of other genes. If we encounter something in the future... and it just swallows us like a snake, then we can cut open its belly early, and there's still hope of saving us."

"Good lad, he even does genetic experiments, he's a scientist." He Yu said weakly, "That's really good. I'm already looking forward to seeing if Beelzebub's suit will be covered in suckers and tentacles."

“I think we need to find some more useful weapons. Where did your friend get his gun?” Number Three asked.

"We found it on a soldier. That guy was so cocky, he tried to burn us with torches, but he ended up hurting himself. Then we all swarmed him and beat him so badly his own mother wouldn't recognize him." Woodstock said with a laugh. "Damn, I kind of miss the days in the dungeon. As long as you weren't chosen for the altar, you could just watch others suffer."

"I miss the barbecue we had before we left." He Yu's concerns were clearly different from theirs.

"I... damn, I don't seem to have anything worth thinking about. It's just that this play was actually pretty bad." Crett felt a little embarrassed. Everyone else seemed to have some tragic stories to tell, but he was the only one who seemed like a tourist who came to have fun.

"It's good that you don't have any stories; it means you're living a relatively peaceful life." Number Three paused, then continued, "In this place, there are too many stories; you might even die in a very creative way."

The group laughed after hearing this. What could they do? At this point, they could only try to find humor in their misery.

Only Marden's face still looked somewhat grim, probably still brooding over someone's comical death.

"If Beelzebub could mix more snake genes, you know, those dog-faced snake-bodied creatures, haven't we encountered them before? If that were the case, maybe we could save her. I looked up some information before, and it's said that snakes usually swallow their prey whole when they eat, and the thing stays in their stomach until it's completely digested, just in a coma..."

“Don’t worry, most people will have their heads smashed first,” He Yu said.

"But what if it happens to have bad teeth and swallows it whole?"

“Those beasts watching the play must be laughing their heads off. This should be considered a classic scene.” He Yu was amused by his thoughtless conjecture. “Beelzebub will definitely let her experience the whole digestion process as food.”

“I think we could actually have saved a lot of people, but we were just too scared at the time!” Marden suddenly raised his voice, as if it were some great declaration.

For a moment, no one responded, and the atmosphere became a bit awkward. He Yu felt that Number Three wanted to say something, but in the end, he shook his head and chose to keep quiet.

Outside the underground palace, the comment "This play was actually pretty bad" sparked a small debate. On the chat board, some people even added "This dish was actually pretty bad" when they ordered takeout in the new city, which made Beelzebub furious.

"Listen to this! Is that even human language?! That damn... what was his name again? Anyway, that little bastard actually said my script was terrible!"

A large circle of screens was set up in front of him, spread out far away, as if a crack had appeared in space.

Beelzebub finished his drink, poured himself a fresh glass, and then gave He Yu a close-up shot.

"And you damned operative..."
