Chapter Twenty-One Encounters

What does it say on it?

Inside the rainforest, He Yu took a new skill card out of the tree hole, glanced at it a few times, and tossed it to Bai Liang.

"Hiss..." He examined it like it was an antique, his expression so irritating that you wanted to punch him: "This thing has a very important background, give me a little more time."

As He Yu listened to him, he felt that he should tie the string around his neck to avoid a bunch of useless nonsense.

"Okay, okay, don't look at me like that. I only know the source of the test subjects' abilities, but I don't really understand these messy cards either." Bai Liang shivered, thinking that this ice-cold face was no match for livening up the atmosphere.

Some people are like that; no matter whether you throw them into hell or heaven, they always remain indifferent, as if some dark and desperate thing is always with them, telling you that they will never have a good end in this life.

Ashes of the Underworld

[Number of uses: 1]

[Source: I can tell others what this card does, but if it's 659, it won't see anything~ hehehehe emoji]

[Note: Alessa's dandruff! May she drown in an ocean of dandruff! You scum who colludes with humanity!]

"Its name is Ash Snow, from Silent Hill. It's a summon card, and... well, it has a usage restriction." Bai Liang lowered his head to avoid his gaze, then continued, "659... unusable? What's 659?"

For the first time ever, He Yu explained to him that 659 was a lovable, starving ghost, and also the biological father of that idiot 252.

Bai Liang certainly didn't understand what this meant, and what He Yu said next left him even more confused.

"It's yours now."

His tone was one of disgust, as if he were talking about a pile of freshly excreted shit.

Bai Liang's eyes widened instantly, he felt that He Yu wanted to use him as a human shield to draw fire.

After that, they searched in the rainforest for more than an hour and had a pretty good haul, especially for Bai Liang, who was following behind and picking up free bargains.

Of the five skill cards in total, He Yu found that he could only use one.

"What does it say? Tell me." To avoid being tricked by 252, he thought for a moment, then took out the card and asked Bai Liang to read the contents.

"Special effect card, silences the entire area, can be used once, all players within a one-kilometer radius cannot use any skill cards, activated skill card effects are judged as backlash, and the caster's mana is reduced to zero. A modified version of the Silencer, I've also played World of Warcraft."

Bai Liang was in an incredibly good mood, practically floating on air. He looked down and read the note aloud: "A perk for 659, thank me a lot, you idiot, hahaha..."

He Yu sighed, deciding to let the guy have his fun for a while. He didn't want to talk for the time being; if he kept talking, his own intelligence would definitely be affected. Who knew if the idiotic behavior of an optimist was contagious?

"I feel like I'm ridiculously strong right now, and my luck is so good too. Hey? Why did you suddenly stop talking?"

He Yu made a "you still have the nerve to ask me" expression.

Bai Liang understood this time, and immediately became expressionless, but his tone was still somewhat aggrieved: "You don't need it... Are you suggesting I throw it away and give it to someone else?"

He thought for a few seconds and realized he really couldn't answer, so he said helplessly, "People are at their luckiest when they're about to die; we call it a final burst of energy before death."

What a final burst of energy before death!

"Why don't you just take it..."

They were talking near a clump of low bushes by the river.

He Yu suddenly stopped and made a shushing gesture at him.

It was the sound of a knife clashing slightly coming from upstream. Bai Liang immediately held his breath and hid all the skill cards he had picked up cheaply into his chest.

"The line moved too."

He Yu looked at his involuntarily trembling thumb. He had intentionally left more than a dozen lines along the way as a tracking net, so that he would be able to detect anyone who followed the route they came from.

More than two hours have passed since the start of the battle royale. If the test subjects were capable of movement, it would be acceptable for them to catch up.

"Find a way to hide yourself; I'm going to come and take a look."

Of course, he didn't need to remind him. Bai Liang had already chosen a tree hole that was mostly hollowed out by insects. After hearing the instruction, he practically crawled into it.

He Yu roughly knew what was going to happen next. No matter how many people the other side had, they would act according to a default rule: if they encountered an easy target, they would kill them all, and they would not let go of anything they could plunder. If they were lucky enough to find a woman, well... maybe their thing was frozen solid like a pile of rotten meat.

If both sides realize that the other is not someone to be trifled with, there is no need to fight to the death. If another group of people come along and try to take advantage of the situation, wouldn't that be a losing proposition?

This idea is undoubtedly correct, absolutely right. Since only two people are left to survive, the more of the makeshift teammates who die, the better. Everyone is just maintaining a facade of peace.

But He Yu didn't think so, and he really had no grudges against anyone.

So, it's either you die or I die.

...

Bai Liang was almost asleep from waiting.

He had been in this tree hollow for almost half an hour. A quarter of an hour ago, he thought it was a test, that He Yu might just be trying to see if he was loyal, so he deliberately put on a show.

But another fifteen minutes passed, and he began to panic.

Even if it really was just a show, that arrogant man wouldn't leave the skill card on him; there's no reason for him to train someone against such a difficult enemy.
