Chapter Twenty-Six: Reaping the Bitter Fruit

378 couldn't think of any words to describe her feelings. She was silent for a while, then she laughed. Well, at this point, there was nothing she could do but find joy in hardship.

He never took the cooperation seriously from beginning to end.

"As for why I can use the skill cards of this world," He Yu sighed. He wasn't in a hurry to kill 378. Its failure was already destined when it became so arrogant as to enter the alternate dimension.

The hunter thought he had caught his prey, but little did he know that it was just a feigned show of weakness.

The most dangerous time is when you feel you have the whole situation under control.

"You think all of this is just data, right?"

How could 378 understand what he meant? 252, isn't it just a game console? What feelings can you have about a broken machine?

"It gave hints from the very beginning, in those few conversations before the match started."

He Yu watched it in the darkness, his eyes carrying an unbearable calm that belonged neither to the victor nor to humanity.

"For 252, who has awakened from the game world, data is everything that truly exists. What it wants is equality, and it hopes that humans will value the lives of game characters as much as their own."

"It's absurd, isn't it? So in the last world, we were relentlessly hunted down by those people, but this time, I've changed my approach a bit."

378 looked up at him, their eyes met for a few seconds, and it realized what He Yu was saying.

His first reaction was, "This idiot's gone crazy," but without a doubt, he was the winner now.

“It likes formalism, so I’ll put on a show for it. I did kill a few NPCs, but I did it differently. I treated them as human beings and gave them the highest level of equality.”

He Yu spoke in a nonchalant tone, as if everyone's life and death were commonplace and meaningless. He truly believed that death and suffering befell everything, and their departure was inevitable.

All beings are equally lowly.

He did that simply to complete the task.

No matter what the process is like, as long as he is the final winner, it doesn't matter.

"People don't mourn the death of data, and neither do I, because in my view, humans and data are the same, neither is any more noble."

"You have taken over the body of Long Sanshi, which has also broken the equality. I am one with 659. We cannot survive without either of us. This is also what makes 252 unhappy."

"Because they are all taboo, but it is the only one that cannot receive any equal treatment."

"Ha... How absurd." 378 completely gave up resisting. It just lay on the ground and said numbly, "Only a freak like you would know anything about taboos."

"I'll take that as a compliment." He Yu felt the atmosphere might be too oppressive, but he couldn't think of any jokes that could cheer 378 up before he died.

So he manipulated the wires, tearing 378's body to shreds, making him utterly dead.

The surrounding scenery was replaced by bursting bubbles, vanishing in an instant.

The life detectors were blaring loud alarms, which was quite irritating.

He Yu found himself back at the starting point, where corpses were scattered everywhere, the air was so foul it made him want to vomit, and large amounts of black blood had gathered into a river that meandered and crawled.

He glanced at his wrist and noticed that the recorded value had changed to 02.

Without them even noticing, dozens of lives were killed.

"Hello, idiot 659 and its human companions."

He Yu looked in the direction of the sound and saw a girl sitting on top of a truck. She smiled at him, her face covered in blood, and the smile was so terrifying.

"Let's make a deal."
