Chapter 47
"Good evening, Loren."
In the hallway, Loren pushed his glasses up, having been forced to stop by the voice. Sturga's Alpha greeted him with a gentle, friendly smile. Based on stored data, he had a keen sense that Noah's frequency of conversation with him in recent days seemed slightly unusual.
The doubt in his heart did not prevent Loren from responding to him politely: "Good evening."
Beside Noah, the tall Hugh Hoffman looked away as if he was too lazy to deal with it, arrogantly staying away from their conversation. Because of some previous actions, he and Wayne were punished with a period of confinement after the training incident, but after being released, Hugh did not seem to be affected at all.
"Are you collecting data again? I've often seen you alone lately." Noah smiled softly, "Is Xia Feng's injury healed?"
Loren: “…It will take some time to recover.”
Loren pushed the reflective lens with his finger, and his slightly mechanical expression did not change.
Noah, as if unaware of his deliberate avoidance, simply chuckled and said, "Is that so? Then it would be a good idea to take some time off to recuperate. Speaking of which, it seems Wayne hasn't been to school for a while due to his family's recall."
"..." Loren sensed a hint of temptation and remained cautious without saying anything.
But Noah didn't say anything more. After a few casual exchanges, they said goodbye to each other. When Loren returned to the dormitory, he frowned and replayed the conversation with Noah in his mind.
Once the seeds of doubt are planted, they are difficult to remove. And that Alpha from Sturga seems to have grasped some information.
Loren took out the toolbox and looked at the machine inside that was almost assembled. After a long silence, he reached out and picked it up.
…
Shi Yu groped her way back to the room in the dark. Not long after she sat down, a call reminder from Angus suddenly popped up on her tablet. He was the building manager. The brown-haired male Omega diligently and meticulously reminded her to stay in the room and not to go out casually. The power system of the nursing home was damaged and it would take some time to repair it.
Shi Yu agreed obediently, then she suddenly blinked and looked out the dark window.
"Well... without electricity, the airship won't work?" she thought for a moment and asked.
The commotion in the garden just now was caused by an airship suddenly landing on the lawn, scaring some Omegas who were passing by to relax. Although no one was hit by the airship, such an accident still surprised Shi Yu.
The facilities in the nursing home are well-equipped, like a greenhouse for Omegas. Once, a chair in the science classroom broke a leg, and it was quickly replaced after the class ended that day. How could such a serious thing happen...?
"It doesn't seem to be an electrical problem." Angus pondered for a moment, then smiled helplessly. "Anyway, let's wait for the people sent by the general to repair it. Go to bed early today and don't let the power outage disturb your sleep."
Seeing Shi Yu nodded, Angus hung up the phone with relief.
After a moment of daze with his chin in his hand, Shi Yu reached out and touched the back of his neck, where he still felt a tingling and sore feeling.
This was Shi Yu's second time experiencing a passionate period. The unspeakable difficult state made her feel that her spirit had become much weaker, so she fiddled with the tablet for a while, called Wayne several times... and tried her luck to connect to the signal, but in the end, the miracle of the last time did not happen.
Shigure decided to go to bed early today.
However, after lying in bed for a while, Shi Yu, who was so tired that he couldn't even open his eyes, couldn't fall asleep.
She suddenly felt something she wasn't used to.
In the past, when the airship took off, she often fell asleep to the subtle humming sound outside, similar to the sound of machine fan blades running. The room was not very dark, and a little bit of warm yellow light from the machine outside could penetrate through the window, which would give her a sense of quiet security.
The girl wrapped herself tightly in the quilt, and then, as if she was a little afraid of the cold, she shrank half of her head into the quilt in a daze.
...the sound of the wind.
The weather has obviously turned cooler these days... Autumn is coming soon, right?
When she first came here she was still wearing a skirt, it turns out so much time has passed.
But, this is so strange... Shigure thought.
During the previous training, she spent every day in fear, and the short week or so seemed endless. However, since she came to the nursing home, several months had passed without her noticing.
Her tightly closed eyelashes fluttered, and Shi Yu couldn't help but wonder, somewhat lostly—if she stayed like this... forever, would she never see them again? As time passed, would she one day forget all those things and people?
——After leaving school again, contact the spaceship, plan a route, and find people with special talents in the family to help destroy some small objects that block the way, including using superpowers to sneak into the Omega nursing home, and accept all the punishments if there is a small chance of being discovered.
In a nutshell, Xia Feng made all kinds of preparations.
Completely ignoring the possibility that such behavior might ruin her future, the young Alpha quietly jumped in from the windowsill, her expression remaining calm and composed.
Xia Feng did make a lot of preparations.
...But this young Alpha, who spent most of her time in family and military academy training, never anticipated what to do next when she arrived here and her Omega was crying uncontrollably.
Xia Feng's presence itself was not strong. With the blessing of her concealment ability, she was like a nimble and agile black cat hiding in the night. The girl Alpha pursed her lips and looked clear, but for some reason, those eyes that should have been like stagnant water suddenly showed a hint of stiffness, and she stared fixedly at the small figure on the bed with its back to her.
Shi Yu was quietly wiping her tears. She was so ashamed that she didn't want to think about how many times she had cried in the past two days. Not only did her body become sticky, but her heart seemed to be washed away by the abundant and surging emotions, and she couldn't help crying at the slightest provocation.
Xia Feng silently came to the girl. Amidst the faint sobs, she frowned and seemed to want to say something.
However, she lowered her eyes and remained silent for a while, then gave up. The uninvited Alpha half-knelt down again and tentatively reached out to touch the wet hair on the back of the Omega. It was hard to tell whether it was a comforting gesture or an attempt to attract the other's attention.
…She gave up again.
Squatting silently beside the girl's bed, Xia Feng didn't know what she was stalemate with. She didn't have much time, and she didn't want to waste it on feeling tangled and uncertain.
——Shi Yu was so cold that she couldn't stand it anymore. She discovered Xia Feng when she was about to close the window. She just wiped her tears and turned around to get out of bed. When she looked up, she saw a slender black shadow squatting there, staring at her without blinking.
In the dark room, a figure suddenly appeared beside the bed with an unfathomable look in his eyes. Shi Yu's brain buzzed and he was so frightened that he couldn't even scream.
She stared at Xia Feng blankly, and Xia Feng also looked at her quietly.
After a moment, Shi Yu's tears fell again. She thought she was dreaming and frantically pinched Xia Feng's face: "Xia Feng...? Is that you? I was just thinking that I had almost forgotten what you looked like, and you appeared in my dream...!"
Xia Feng: “…”
Shi Yu carefully pinched the Alpha's delicate, elegant, oriental face twice. She offered no resistance, which only confirmed to Shi Yu that this wasn't real. So, she whimpered softly, rubbing her hands against Xia Feng's face again, until it blushed, and then threw herself onto his shoulder. However, when her chin suddenly bumped against the Alpha's shoulder blade, Shi Yu seemed to bite the tip of her tongue, and couldn't help but let out a soft "ah."
Xia Feng's expression remained unchanged. Even though both sides of her face were pinched red, she still maintained a calm expression. She stretched out her arms and lightly hugged Shi Yu's shoulders, turning this posture into a complete hug.
Xia Feng: "Now, do you still think this is a dream?"
The cold and calm voice was close at hand.
Shi Yu covered her mouth with tears in her eyes. When she wanted to retreat with her head down, she found that she was being held hostage. Xia Feng didn't really touch her, but at such a close distance, she could feel the terrifying breath of the sun...
Shi Yu didn't dare to move.
Xia Feng sighed quietly and retracted his arm, allowing Shi Yu to sit on the bed and talk to her. She was about to speak when she was interrupted by a vague sound like the whimpering of a small animal.
"Xia Feng..." Shi Yu grabbed her sleeve and sobbed softly, "Xia Feng, it's really you, not a dream..."
Xia Feng was silent for a while, his black grape-like eyes were covered by crow-feather-like eyelashes.
"Don't cry," she said.
The tone wasn't one of teaching, but rather a certain awkwardness, and a sense of helplessness after being hit by such frank words.
"Wayne is waiting for you outside," Xia Feng paused and got to the point. "Do you want to see him? You have to think about it."
Shi Yu opened her eyes wide, a bit surprised and incredulous. She thought to herself, what's there to think about? She must be going to see Wayne. She can talk about the general's expectations after she sees Wayne! She was about to happily agree when she heard Xia Feng's voice again.
"Our trip will only take half an hour, near the nursing home. If anything unusual happens during the journey, I will send you back immediately, but accidents can happen."
"Since I've decided to go out, I might be punished if I'm discovered."
Xia Feng looked directly at Shi Yu, his dark eyes deep and bottomless: "Are you scared?"
Shi Yu was distracted for a moment. She seemed to know what kind of fork in the road she was facing. The general pulled her out of the nightmare, and she obviously didn't want to let him down.
But the confusion in Shi Yu's eyes quickly disappeared.
She nodded and said firmly, "If you are not afraid, go!"
…
It was already late at night, and because of the curfew, it was impossible to leave the dormitory building in the normal way. Xia Feng had no choice but to pick up Shi Yu and planned to jump directly into the garden from the second-floor window.
But when Shi Yu was trembling and half-held by Xia Feng and was about to jump off the building, a small accident happened.
The polite tapping of knuckles was followed by Ed's low, normal-sounding inquiry.
"Shigure," he said, "are you asleep already?"
Shi Yu was in Xia Feng's arms. He opened his mouth in panic and wanted to make a sound almost reflexively, but Xia Feng quickly covered his mouth with his hands.
Facing Shi Yu's wet eyes asking for help, Xia Feng frowned and mouthed to her not to speak and wait and see what would happen. Shi Yu did as he was told, hesitant and stiff.
...Huh? Doesn't it feel like I'm secretly eloping with Xia Feng without telling my family?
Leaning in Xia Feng's arms, Shi Yu inexplicably had this association, and his face suddenly turned red.
Ed stood outside the door and waited for a while. No response was received. After a pause, the boy said goodbye to her calmly and without any emotion: "That's good. Good night."
The crisis was resolved, and Shi Yu took a deep breath nervously.
The second floor wasn't very high, and with Xia Feng holding her, the feeling of weightlessness from falling was fleeting. Perhaps it was the cool night breeze that made her feel relaxed and refreshed, but Shi Yu's eyes lit up. Whether it was anticipation or something else, she surveyed the familiar landscape around her with great interest.
"You are very happy." Xia Feng asked, but his tone was a statement.
"Yes!" Shi Yu admitted openly, lying in her arms and said, "I'm very happy to meet you. It's also very happy to come to the garden late at night for the first time!"
Of course, there’s more to it than that, so she added, “Oh, and Xia Feng…”
"What?"
As he ran lightly, Xia Feng glanced sideways at the girl with a calm gaze. Shi Yu's eyes were still red, but she smiled, pointed at herself and then at her arm, and whispered, "I'm thinking about the second time we met, when you saved me."
"Xia Feng, I'm very happy."
Under the hazy moonlit night sky, Shi Yu learned many things that he had never known before.
For example, when the artisanal iron gates of the garden were closed, they looked a bit like a castle with only the outlines of a castle at night. The kittens that the students secretly kept outside seemed to be getting along, meowing and bickering in the middle of the night. The living quarters were actually the farthest from the nursing home's main gate, separated from the medical area by an artificial lake. If a bridge could be built across the lake, she could save a lot of time going to the medical area to see Officer Rain...
“Hmm!”
Shigure gasped in pain.
When climbing a wall, one must be careful of any protruding sharp objects - this is something she only learned now.
To save time, they had to crawl through any hole they saw and climb any wall they encountered. Shi Yu's face was covered in dust like a cat, and she was accidentally scratched by something like glass shards. She covered her knees in frustration and jumped into Xia Feng's arms below.
"Does it hurt?"
Xia Feng noticed Shi Yu's abnormality. Shi Yu shook his head and said, "It doesn't hurt."
The broken stars in the sky formed a quiet river. Shi Yu buried his head in Xia Feng's thin shoulders, and his light and tense breathing was drowned by the wind.
How long had passed? ...I don't know. When the summer breeze finally died down, Shi Yu saw, bewildered, that her lips were pursed, her dark eyes staring silently ahead.
"This road is blocked." Her tone turned cold and she spoke softly. Shi Yu blinked in confusion and looked cautiously behind Xia Feng. In the shadowy darkness, several vague figures and machines came into view.
"Because of the power outage, your personnel are increasing patrols." Xia Feng explained to her succinctly as they led Shi Yu away from here and headed towards the recorded location. If it were just a few pairs of human eyes, Xia Feng wouldn't be afraid, but they were carrying detection equipment.
The forged identity information that was hacked into the system can only be used to pass through the door of the nursing home. Her "invisibility" does not work against the machine.
While moving quickly, Xia Feng was in deep thought, calculating the time in his mind - after changing the route, whether he could catch up with Wayne who destroyed the airship's core became an unknown... In twenty minutes, or maybe only ten minutes, the nursing home would have repaired its power system, and then their actions as Alphas would undoubtedly be exposed under the lights of this nursing home and the military court.
"Xia Feng, are you okay?"
Shi Yu felt that they seemed to be running all the time. Wouldn't Xia Feng be tired? So she thought about it, and then gently and guiltily reached out to wipe the sweat off Xia Feng.
“…” Xia Feng lowered his eyes and said nothing.
The journey was smooth this time and they soon arrived at the final pass. But when Xia Feng was about to carry Shi Yu up the high wall and then jump up herself as before, she suddenly frowned, tilted her head, and pressed the communicator on her ear tightly.
...What's wrong? Isn't it almost here?
Shi Yu looked at Xia Feng who suddenly answered someone's call and then became silent, and suddenly felt a little uneasy.
"Are you sure?" After hearing Wayne's voice, Xia Feng raised his eyes and glanced at the girl's confused face. "This may be your last chance to see her."
On the other side, the young man's slightly hoarse voice remained unmoved: "They have another central room. Send her back."
Xia Feng paused, then said "hmm" and relayed to Shi Yu: "Wayne said that the airship will be able to take off again soon, and he wants you to go back now."
Shigure: “!!…No!”
Even if it's just for a minute, Shigure wanted to see Wayne.
Xia Feng looked at her with his dark eyes, and replied to Wayne word by word: "She said no."
...There was no sound from that end.
Xia Feng's subtle indulgence made Shi Yu feel a little relieved, but she also felt a little aggrieved. It was so close... why would Wayne...
Shi Yu glanced at the sky, feeling increasingly uneasy.
The incident happened when Shigure was brought to the last outer wall by Xiafeng.
Rather than a wall, it was more like a small, towering platform. Because of this, she could clearly see half of the sky that was suddenly illuminated from above.
In a split second, countless lights, as bright as day, lit up beneath the pitch-black night. Shigure, with her back to the light, opened her eyes wide as if realizing something, tears welling up in her eyes as she slowly fell. She heard the piercing sirens pierce the air, and the hatch of the rising airship opened as its wings vibrated.
"Go back." Xia Feng's pupils shrank slightly, and he made a decision in an instant. He reached out and grabbed Shi Yu's shoulders, ready to take her back.
After the airship rises, it can briefly provide electricity to the nursing home. It is inevitable that she and Wayne will be discovered, but Shigure cannot be injured.
Alpha stared at the airship in the sky that was clearly attacking them. Perhaps Xia Feng had never thought that Shi Yu would resist. When she grasped a wisp of wind, Xia Feng suddenly turned around and looked at the girl's back as she suddenly fell.
The moment he jumped down, Shi Yu was not afraid.
Just like that day... Shi Yu thought, just like that day when she fell from the tree house - a tear-jerking, harmless light source exploded behind her with a roar, and Shi Yu's eyes were instantly plunged into darkness. The orange-red wind lifted her seaweed-like black hair on her cheeks, and the lifted hem of her skirt seemed like a flower that had lost its destination and was drifting like duckweed.
Falling into the embrace of that otherworldly, pepper-scented embrace, Shigure seemed to have no thought of any possibility other than being caught by Wayne. She simply felt relieved, yet couldn't help but tremble as she hugged his arms tightly, crying, "... Wayne."
The author has something to say:
Note: The building manager’s name was changed.
