Chapter 14 Cost of Living

"Where did you get this cake?"

After hesitating for a while, Jiang Li asked Mo Jingchun who was standing beside him.

"It was given to me by someone else, and I don't really eat this stuff." Mo Jingchun said as he took out a love letter wrapped in a pink envelope from the drawer.

"I don't know who sent this to me. I just happened to be short of food, so I decided to fill my stomach."

"Thanks for not being hungry," Jiang Li pushed the white cake back to Mo Jingchun, "This is a gift from someone else."

"Why are you so weird? My stomach is growling with hunger..." Mo Jingchun shook his head, feeling that his deskmate was really weird.

"That won't work either," Jiang Li insisted, "This is a token of love given to you by someone else. Whether you cherish it or not, I shouldn't accept it."

"Okay, okay, if you don't eat it, I will."

Mo Jingchun shook his head, took a bite of most of the cake in front of him, and then swallowed the whole cake.

The voices of the people around stopped, and the class, which was originally a little noisy, became quiet in an instant.

The math teacher was walking in from outside, which was why everyone quieted down.

Mo Jingchun didn't care at all and touched Jiang Li's arm. "I'll compensate you for your bicycle in a few days when I have enough money."

Jiang Li lowered her head and looked at the math book in her hand and did not answer Mo Jingchun immediately, but she tore off a piece of draft paper, picked up a pen and wrote something on it quickly.

Mo Jingchun took the note that Jiang Li handed to him from under the table and opened it. There were only two sentences written on it.

You don't have to pay for it.

You mean well, I don't blame you.

"Is this true?" Mo Jingchun crumpled up the piece of draft paper and casually threw it into his drawer, while nudging Jiang Li with his elbow.

The black hair shook a little, and Jiang Li nodded slightly.

"Then I will..."

"Don't talk!"

Before Mo Jingchun could finish his words, he was interrupted by the math teacher on the stage. She glanced at the entire classroom through the glasses hanging on her nose, and then returned to the textbook on the table.

Mo Jingchun stopped talking and grabbed the homework assigned by the teachers today on the table. Although he never listened carefully in class, he would still hand in his homework on time. After all, he didn't want the class representatives to cause trouble for him.

Evening study time was very quiet, and Jiang Li didn't have many friends, so he almost devoted himself to his homework.

She only raised her head again when the 9:40 bell rang.

Jiang Li subconsciously glanced at his deskmate's seat. As usual, Mo Jingchun had already left.

Jiang Li touched his empty stomach and decided not to stay here to continue studying tonight and go home first.

Jiang Li came to the bus stop, dragged his bicycle to a nearby scrap collection point, and sold it for 80 yuan.

Normally it wouldn't be sold at that price, but the boss said there were still some parts that could be used, so he sold it for 80 yuan.

Jiang Li held the 80 yuan in his hand, got on the bus and returned to the Seventh Welfare Home.

Taking out the key to open the door, then turning around and closing the door, this is what many people do when they return home, and Jiang Li is no exception.

After turning on the light, a bright incandescent lamp lit up in the living room. Jiang Li took out some noodles from the kitchen and put them in the pot.

After about three minutes, the noodles were scooped into a bowl, and then a bottle of chili sauce on the table was opened for seasoning. This was Jiang Li's dinner.

Since he is studying now, he can only find opportunities to do odd jobs during the weekends. He has no income on weekdays, so Jiang Li has to tighten his belt and make a living.

After dinner, Jiang Li tidied up the things on the table, washed his feet and went to bed. It was rare for him to go home so early, so he might as well have a nap.

Jiang Li set the alarm clock and just as he lay down on the bed, his cell phone rang with a message. He picked it up and saw that it was a message from Teacher Liu.

Jiang Li picked up his phone, read the message sent by Teacher Liu, replied to the other party, and then lay back on the bed.

As the night deepens, most people who have been busy all day have fallen asleep peacefully.

Jiang Li was lying on the bed with cold sweat on his pale forehead. He tightly grasped the quilt in his hands. His originally flat lying position gradually curled up and finally curled up into a ball.

She leaned tightly against the wall, as if trying to use the wall to give herself some sense of security.

"No, don't leave me..."

In the deepest and heaviest night, buried are the past events that Jiang Li does not want to recall, and also the nightmare that has troubled her for countless days and nights.

The next morning, Jiang Li boiled two eggs and went out. Without a bicycle, she had to take the bus to school, which invisibly increased her cost of the day.

There were a lot of people on the bus, and Jiang Li tried to find a seat in a corner. She didn't like to be too close to others.

More than ten minutes later, Jiang Li arrived at school on time and started his study time for the day. When school was over in the afternoon, Teacher Liu called him, and Jiang Li understood what he meant and followed him towards the office.

"Is this okay? Jingchun, you didn't steal the limelight yesterday and you're so proud of yourself today, right?"

A handsome boy with his school uniform tied around his waist and a white-gray shirt on his upper body spoke to Mo Jingchun next to him, tapping a basketball in his hands.

"Xu Fan, shoot this ball first."

Mo Jingchun curled his lips and looked at Xu Fan standing at the three-pointer position, "Only those who make the shot have the right to criticize me."
