Chapter 36 Want to Escape

Dip...drip...drip.

The hospital ward was very quiet, with only the rhythmic sounds of instruments around it.

This was a double ward. The outermost bed was empty. Jiang Li was lying on the bed near the window.

There was no light in the room, only the cold moonlight shining through the window, bringing some illumination.

Mo Jingchun tried to slow down his movements as much as possible, pushed open the ward door, then quickly turned around and closed it.

Mo Jingchun walked through the curtain across the middle of the ward and stood in front of the bed near the inside.

Jiang Li, lying on the hospital bed, was shrouded in the cold moonlight, his black hair scattered beside the bed, and his head was wrapped in circles of white bandages.

Her already fair skin looked even more pale under the moonlight. Jiang Li lay there quietly like the Sleeping Beauty in a fairy tale.

The white gauze curtains next to it danced in the wind, casting black silhouettes.

Mo Jingchun's face was full of guilt. He never thought that things would turn out like this.

His gaze shifted from Jiang Li to an instrument beside him that was lit with a yellow-green digital line graph. Although Mo Jingchun couldn't understand it, he still recognized that the display was normal.

Mo Jingchun took a breath and lowered his head again, only to find that Jiang Li, who was lying in front of him, had changed his posture.

Changed from lying flat on the back to lying on the side.

Jiang Li... woke up?

Mo Jingchun was very excited and subconsciously took a step forward, "Jiang Li, you..."

Mo Jingchun's words came to an abrupt end, because Jiang Li, who was lying on the hospital bed in front of him, had his back to him. He moved little by little, hugged his knees with both hands, and curled up into a ball.

"Is she... afraid? Jiang Li is afraid of me."

Mo Jingchun frowned. He wanted to punch himself twice. It was all his fault. Why was he so careless?

Thinking of this, Mo Jingchun clenched his fists tightly, but then suddenly loosened them.

Mo Jingchun looked at Jiang Li, who was curled up in a ball in front of him, and felt full of self-blame.

"Don't be afraid, I'll be leaving soon."

Mo Jingchun retreated step by step. The only thing he could do now was to calm Jiang Li's emotions.

"Don't be surprised by the spring."

Jiang Li, who was curled up in a ball, spoke at this time and called out to Mo Jingchun who was about to leave.

"I am here."

When Mo Jingchun heard Jiang Li calling him, he hurried forward again. He didn't know what he should say to Jiang Li now, for fear of irritating her.

"Huff, huff," Jiang Li's breathing became heavy, and his thin chest rose and fell, as if the wound on his head began to ache slightly.

"Don't move, I'll call a doctor."

Seeing this, Mo Jingchun turned around hurriedly and was about to run out of the ward.

"No, come back."

Jiang Li called out to Mo Jingchun weakly. She struggled to sit up from the hospital bed and leaned against the wall.

Mo Jingchun saw Jiang Li sitting up from the hospital bed and panicked, wanting her to lie back down, "Don't get up yet."

He reached out to hold Jiang Li's shoulder, but was unexpectedly grabbed by Jiang Li's hand halfway.

Mo Jingchun's movements stopped in mid-air.

This was the first time Mo Jingchun held Jiang Li's hand. He usually only held her wrist. Jiang Li's hand was very cold, just like the indifference she usually showed, keeping people at a distance.

Mo Jingchun tightened his grip little by little, holding Jiang Li's hand tightly. Finally, he looked up to see Jiang Li's expression clearly, but was unexpectedly met with a pair of sad eyes.

This was not the first time they looked into each other's eyes, but it was the longest time they had ever looked into each other's eyes.

The moonlight quietly spread to the windowsill behind Jiang Li, and gradually climbed up her back and the black hair scattered on her shoulders. At this moment, Jiang Li was covered with a blurry halo by the moonlight.

His eyes were shining with light, as if something was about to fall.

This was the first time Jiang Li showed weakness in front of others.

Mo Jingchun met Jiang Li's eyes, where he saw more suppressed emotions. She seemed to be afraid, terrified, uneasy, and she... wanted to escape.

Mo Jingchun held Jiang Li's cold little hand and found that she was trembling slightly.

"Take me away."

Jiang Li blinked, her expression becoming struggling, as if recalling some painful memories. "I hate the ward, I hate the hospital, please don't let me stay here... okay?"

Mo Jingchun's throat was like a cassette player at this moment and he couldn't speak.

Jiang Li lowered his head and slowly leaned on Mo Jingchun, "Please."

Beep... beep...

Didi...

The atmosphere in the ward was like a sponge that had absorbed enough water and became heavy. Only the instrument on the side was still making sounds.

The quilt was lifted, followed by the rustling sound of clothes rubbing against the mattress.

Mo Jingchun put his arms around Jiang Li's legs, let her lean on his arms, and carried her out of the ward.

Jiang Li closed his eyes, forcing back the thing that was about to fall, leaving only a circle of wet marks on the surrounding eyelashes.

This was the first time the two had large-scale physical contact, the first time Jiang Li leaned in Mo Jingchun's arms, and the first time Mo Jingchun hugged Jiang Li.

Mo Jingchun held Jiang Li, who was wearing a blue and white striped hospital gown, and walked through the hospital's green-lit corridor, despite the strange looks from people around them, and went down the stairs to the lobby downstairs.

Mo Jingchun looked down at Jiang Li in his arms and found that she was lying quietly in his arms with her eyes closed, as if she had fallen asleep again.

Mo Jingchun walked out of the hospital lobby, looked around, and then walked towards the small park next to it that provided activities for patients.

It was already night, and no patients remained in this somewhat secluded park. Only lonely street lights and confused people remained.

Mo Jingchun walked for about five minutes and finally sat on a bench with a backrest near a street light.

It was very quiet here, with only the faint sound of traffic passing in the distance.

Jiang Li opened her eyes at this time, and after seeing that she had left the hospital, she struggled to get out of Mo Jingchun's arms.

Mo Jingchun bent down and placed Jiang Lian safely on the other side of the bench.

Jiang Li was not wearing shoes. She put her feet on the bench, hugged her knees with her arms, buried her head between her legs, and her black hair was spread around her.

Mo Jingchun looked at Jiang Li, seeming to want to say something but stopping himself. He raised his hands and then put them down again. His Adam's apple bounced up and down, but he didn't make any sound.

Mo Jingchun didn't know what to say now. Should he remind Jiang Li Yeliang not to stay outside, or should he tell Jiang Li that the wound on her head hadn't healed yet and she should go back to the ward? Or should he apologize to Jiang Li first...

"Hey, Mo Jingchun, why do you like to look at the sky?" Jiang Li was the first to break the silence and said something.

"Hmm?" Mo Jingchun turned his head to look at Jiang Li, who still had his head buried in his legs, and the sound he made was a little muffled.

"I'm interested in astronomy because I like stars," Mo Jingchun explained, looking up at the sky. "When I can't see the stars during the day, I'll try to find their location."
