Chapter 4 The One I Love Most

The air pressure in the car was very low, and the people who used to be a family were silent at this moment.

Jiang Li didn't dare to speak, he just squeezed towards the corner of the car door, not daring to touch other people.

She, Bai Lu and Bai Ye sat in the back seat, while Bai Cheng sat in the passenger seat.

Bai Lu was sitting in the middle, but at this moment she had a strange look on her face. She squeezed towards Bai Ye and hugged one of his arms, as if she was afraid of Jiang Li, her brother who had disappeared for more than half a year.

Jiang Li sat in the car with her head down and said nothing. On weekdays, she was the most lively person and the one who could chat the most with her family, but now everything has changed.

And so, the five people remained silent in the car until they returned to their homes.

When following everyone home, Jiang Li suddenly felt as if he was in another world.

When Jiang Li saw the familiar buildings in front of him and the neighbors around him whom he had already known for a long time, he was shaking with excitement.

As she followed Bai Ye into the house, she suddenly remembered something and grabbed Bai Ye's arm.

"What's wrong?"

Bai Ye turned his head and looked at Jiang Li, but his gaze was not on the latter. He looked away the moment their eyes met.

"Where's grandma? Where is she?"

Jiang Li didn't care about Bai Ye's actions. His pale face turned a little red because of excitement, and his beautiful eyes were wide open.

"She's in her room on the second floor."

Bai Ye told Jiang Li where his grandmother was.

After hearing Bai Ye's words, Jiang Li immediately let go of Bai Ye's arm, and then, without caring about the gazes of Bai Cheng and her uncle, she rushed up the stairs in two steps and came to the second floor she was familiar with.

Passing through the white-tiled living room, in front of her was a room with a half-open door.

Jiang Li slowed down her pace little by little, and her frail body began to tremble violently. Finally, she mustered up the courage to push open the door and walked in.

In the corner of the room stood a bedstead that looked quite old, with carvings of dragons and phoenixes on it, but the pictures on it had gradually faded due to age.

There was a table, an old LCD TV and a stool in the room, but that was it.

And the person lying on the bed was her beloved grandmother.

When Jiang Li saw his grandmother lying on the bed, his eyes were blurred by tears.

Jiang Li still remembers that her grandmother was the best to her when she was little. Whenever there were snacks at home, she would secretly save some for herself. When the adults in the family bought something for her, her grandmother would also save some for herself.

Every time young Jiang Li tried to suppress his cravings and refused his grandmother's food, his grandmother would always put on a sullen face and pretend to be angry, forcing Jiang Li to eat all her snacks.

Jiang Li knew very well that her grandmother loved her the most, but now she didn't know how her grandmother would react when facing her now.

Jiang Li couldn't accept her grandmother's estrangement, and this was her biggest fear so far.

"Yes, Haohao?"

The grandmother lying on the bed seemed to notice someone standing beside her bed, so she subconsciously called out to her most beloved grandson.

Jiang Li's tears flowed down. She came to her grandmother's side and knelt down beside the bed. She stretched out her hand and held her grandmother's dry and old hand.

At this moment, she finally remembered why she kept calling Jiang Li.

Because her grandmother's surname is Jiang and her name is Jiang Li.

She was not calling her own name, but her dearest grandma.

"grandmother."

Jiang Li suppressed his emotions and shouted these two words.

After hearing someone's response, the grandmother lying on the bed opened her cloudy eyes. Due to her age, her eyesight had become very poor, almost to the point where she could not see anything.

Despite this, grandma still looked in the direction of Jiang Li and held her thin hand tightly.

"Haohao, you've lost a lot of weight. Where have you been? Grandma misses you so much."

The family members didn't dare to tell the elderly grandmother at all, and could only make up various excuses to cover up the news of Jiang Li's disappearance.

They didn't even tell grandma about taking Jiang Li home today, because they didn't know how to explain to her that Bai Hao had become the current Jiang Li.

Tears rolled out of her eyes. The sadness that Jiang Li had tried hard to suppress for several days suddenly broke through her heart and flowed through her blood. She cried hoarsely, but she didn't dare let her grandmother hear her voice, for fear that she would discover the change in herself.

"Okay, stop crying and don't scare your grandma."

A voice came from behind, it was his father Bai Cheng speaking to her.

However, at this moment Jiang Li could not control her emotions no matter what. She could only cover her mouth with her best efforts and sob.

However, the next second, Jiang Li was forced to release her hands from those holding her grandmother's. Bai Cheng lifted her up, walked her to the living room outside, and threw her on a mahogany furniture seat.

"What are you doing?"

The uncle in the living room frowned when he saw his brother's actions and scolded him.

"What am I doing?"

Bai Cheng seemed like a powder keg. He pointed at Jiang Li, who had been thrown onto the chair, and said angrily, "You don't really think she's Bai Hao, do you? What paternity test? I don't believe there's any way in this world to turn a man into a woman!"

After hearing what his brother Bai Cheng said, the uncle fell silent. Although he didn't want to admit it, he and his brother couldn't believe that Jiang Li in front of him was his once lively and cheerful nephew.

Jiang Li was trembling all over. Facing her father's accusations and her uncle's silence, she dared not say a word. She felt pain in her left shoulder, which was caused by being thrown on the mahogany seat just now.

The only thing she could do was to lower her head, shrink herself, and reduce her presence as much as possible.

“You…”

When Bai Cheng saw Jiang Li's appearance, he was immediately furious. He stretched out his hand to slap Jiang Li. Fortunately, Bai Ye came up from downstairs at this time and hurriedly stopped his uncle's action.

"Don't stop me. I'm going to see how long this guy can continue to pretend to be my son."

Bai Cheng thought that the Jiang Li in front of him was a fake, and he was unwilling to believe it at all.

"Why are you still standing there? Don't stay here, go upstairs!"

Bai Ye stopped Bai Cheng from moving forward, turned his head to look at Jiang Li who was curled up in a ball, and spoke to her hurriedly.

Jiang Li nodded timidly, then staggered and pushed open the glass door to the second floor, but met her sister Bai Lu on the stairs.
