Chapter 40 Never do useless work
Shen Xiyi thought Liang Junchen had been fooled.
However, as soon as they entered the gate of Haoyue Tower, the man asked all the servants who were working the night shift to go home.
In less than five minutes, the only lights left in the yard were the two of them.
Shen Xiyi's heart sank. How could she involuntarily regard Liang Junchen as one of those brainless dandies?
Shen Xiyi's body was not in the shadow of the wind and rain corridor, making it impossible to see her expression at the moment.
"What's wrong?" Shen Xiyi asked in a low voice.
She had not forgotten how he treated her the last time he asked everyone to leave. She did not like that kind of love that tended towards emotional catharsis.
"Didn't Sheng Yi tell you?" Liang Junchen took a slow step forward as she took a half step back. "The fat guy at the hospital accused you of intentional injury."
The man looked down at her condescendingly. Shen Xiyi felt a little short of breath for a moment. She stood there with her forehead pressed against his chest, not daring to move.
"Miss Sheng said that the man was on drugs, that's nonsense. He's such a big fat guy, I could beat him like that, at least I need to have the physique of a bodyguard to do that." Shen Xiyi looked up at him, with only grievance in his clear eyes.
Liang Junchen's deep eyes reflected her pitiful appearance at the moment, and he didn't say anything for a long time.
"Did Sheng Yi tell you that?"
Shen Xiyi nodded obediently: “Yes.”
The fat man was indeed on drugs, and he couldn't recognize Shen Xiyi even after taking several photos.
"I just want to ask you, why are you so nervous?" The man's voice became much calmer, which also meant that his emotions were much more stable.
Shen Xiyi's eyes reddened, and she carefully grasped the fabric on the man's chest: "I'm afraid you won't let me go home because of suspicion."
Liang Junchen lifted her chin: "Am I such an unreasonable person in your eyes?"
Shen Xiyi didn't say anything. Later, she only heard the man sigh helplessly, and then he picked her up by the waist.
Shen Xiyi didn't know how this matter was handled, but for someone like Liang Junchen, these little things were nothing to him.
On the day of Shen Qingxue’s wedding, Wu Yuzhi called Shen Xiyi with great anticipation.
Shen Xiyi listened to Wu Yuzhi's hypocritical words on the phone with an indifferent expression, and a mocking smile inadvertently appeared at the corner of his mouth.
"Mom, I'm going back to see my grandparents today, so I won't come to the wedding." Shen Xiyi said slowly and hung up the phone.
Wu Yuzhi was stunned and stared at her phone for a few seconds. She would never reject her parents so directly.
Even if she is reluctant, she will agree anyway.
"Mom, what did Xiyi say? When will they arrive? Xu Chen asked me several times just now." Shen Qingxue's anxious voice interrupted Wu Yuzhi's daze.
Wu Yuzhi pinched her phone: "Xiyi said she's going home to see her grandparents today, so she won't be coming."
Shen Qingxue's face changed drastically: "What? Didn't you send her an invitation before? Why is she like this?"
"I don't know either. Maybe she thinks that marrying Liang Junchen is finding a good backer." Wu Yuzhi had a vague illusion that Shen Xiyi was not the same as before.
The tone of her voice just now was a bit cold and impatient. Shen Xiyi had never been like this before. She was always submissive to her family.
"Mom, you should ask her to come back. I've already told Xu Chen that Xiyi will be attending the wedding today. He has always wanted to establish a cooperative relationship with Liang Junchen. If they don't come, how will Xu Chen look at me in the future? My life in the Xu family will not be easy in the future."
Shen Qingxue didn't want to be targeted by her in-laws just after marrying into a wealthy family.
Wu Yuzhi looked at Shen Qingxue: "I can only try my best, she may not come back."
Although Shen Xiyi came back when she was ten years old, she never raised her and had no feelings for her. She also disliked her overly beautiful face.
"Mom, think about it. My dad's company still depends on the Xu family. Do you think you're going to ruin all of us just because of Xiyi?"
Wu Yuzhi nodded in agreement: "I understand, go ahead."
But when he called again later, Shen Xiyi's phone was turned off.
Nancheng is nearly 300 kilometers away from Qingxi Town, and the road conditions are not good. If you set out from Nancheng in the morning, you will arrive at dusk.
You can't drive into the ancient city, you can only get off the car and walk in.
When Shen Xiyi said that he was going to get out of the car and go in, Liang Junchen was sitting in the car, hesitant.
"It's okay, it's the same if I go back by myself. I may have to trouble you to wait here for a while." Shen Xiyi said, opened the car door and got out directly.
Liang Junchen looked out the window for a long time, and seeing that Shen Xiyi's figure had entered the ancient town archway, he got out of the car.
This ancient town is nestled in the mountains and embraces water. The mountains are lush and green, and there is no commercial development. The road leading in is winding and even bumpy. There are very few people in the town, mostly elderly people and children.
People's eyes were clear and innocent, and they couldn't help but look at the strangers who suddenly came in with curiosity, but there was no malice, they were just curious.
Liang Junchen followed Shen Xiyi into the ancient town and found that there were almost no people on the stone-paved streets. It was just approaching dusk and most of the shops on the street were already closed.
The man caught up with Shen Xiyi in a few steps: “There are not many people living in this town.”
Shen Xiyi hummed and said, "Young people have gone out to make a living, so you don't have to worry about them recognizing you. Most elderly people don't use the Internet."
Maybe it was because he returned to his hometown that Shen Xiyi got a little carried away. After he finished speaking, he immediately realized that he had said the wrong thing.
"I mean..."
"You're right, I don't want to be recognized." Liang Junchen looked at her panicked face, and the inquiry in his eyes deepened.
Shen Xiyi avoided his sight and pointed to a place not far ahead: "It's just ahead, let's go."
Shen Xiyi pushed open the wooden door that was never locked and walked into the narrow courtyard. The grandfather in the hall was lighting a cigarette and staring at the door in a daze.
Suddenly someone pushed the door open, and then I saw the granddaughter I had been thinking about day and night walking in. Everything suddenly seemed like a dream.
"Grandpa." Shen Xiyi trotted across the patio and headed straight for the hall.
The old man in his sixties was in a trance, Shen Xiyi had already arrived in front of him, and he quickly put down the pipe in his hand.
"Xi Yi is back." Chen Ye's voice couldn't stop trembling.
"Grandpa." A calm and gentle voice suddenly came.
Before Shen Ye had time to take a good look at Shen Xiyi, he saw a well-dressed man in a suit and tie walking in from outside.
The black suit made him look more calm than usual. His short hair was combed neatly, and he had a handsome face and extraordinary demeanor.
"Grandpa, this is Mr. Liang, my...husband." Shen Xiyi introduced softly.
Chen Ye is actually a kind-looking old man, but his expression does not look good at the moment.
"I never agreed to this marriage. It was your heartless parents who did this." Shen Ye was very angry, but he was old and that bastard Shen Congxian had long since stopped listening to him. His legs were not in good condition and he could not leave the town.
"Grandpa, it's not what you think. Mr. Liang is very good to me. I am not reluctant to marry him. He is very busy recently and has no time to come back to see you."
Shen Xiyi explained so much, Shen Ye couldn't help but look up at her, and all his anger was suppressed.
He knew that his granddaughter never did anything in vain, and that she must have brought this man here for something more important.
"Forget it. Have you eaten yet? If not, I'll make it for you." Shen Ye stood up as he spoke. They must have traveled all the way back, so how could they have eaten?
"Grandpa, I'll do it myself later. I'll go see grandma first. Junchen, can you stay here and chat with my grandpa?" Shen Xiyi's eyes fell on Liang Junchen with hope in his eyes.
"good."
After all, this was at her grandparents' house, so he had to restrain his overbearing and unreasonable behavior as he did in South City.
Song Qingtang never goes out all year round. He has poor eyesight and doesn't like crowds.
Shen Xiyi pushed open the door of the study in the backyard, and Song Qingtang inside saw a vague but familiar figure walking in.
"Is it Xiyi?" Shen Xiyi's footsteps and the breath on her body made the old man immediately realize who the visitor was.
"It's me, grandma, why don't you turn on the light?" Shen Xiyi turned on the light, and the room instantly became bright.
The thin old man also saw Shen Xiyi's face a little more clearly. Shen Xiyi went over and helped her sit down again: "I said I would come back, why should grandma worry so much."
"I know your father married you to that man you don't even know. That bastard is such a jerk."
"His surname is Liang, and he's Liang Jinsheng's nephew. It took me a lot of effort to catch him."
Upon hearing this, Song Qingtang stared at Shen Xiyi closely: “Liang family?”
Shen Xiyi put his face in front of the old woman so that she could see more clearly: “I brought him back and put away the photos of my aunt at home these days.”
"Is there any news about your aunt?" Song Qingtang held Shen Xiyi's wrist tightly, and his voice couldn't help but become excited.
