Chapter 137 Yan Yiqi x Xie Yue (1)
Yan Yiqi went to the airport to pick up Xie Yue.
After getting engaged, the two didn't see each other for three years.
Xie Yue was pushing the suitcase and looking around in confusion, hesitating whether to make a phone call, and almost bumped into someone.
The person who came was quick to grab her arm and steady her.
"Thank you, thank you."
Xie Yue looked up and was suddenly met with a pair of eyes. The owner of the eyes seemed to be looking back at her, lowering his eyes to take in her momentary surprise.
With his eyes, Xie Yue recognized him, Yan Yiqi.
After three years of not seeing each other, Xie Yue still remembered him at first, but as time went by, the memory gradually faded. Occasionally, when she thought of him, a face would appear, vague as if she remembered it clearly, but not clearly.
I saw it, and it became clear to me quickly, and I have never forgotten it.
"Ah...hello." She began to feel awkward, her voice a little hoarse.
"You've had a hard time on the road." Yan Yiqi took the suitcase from her hand, brushed her knuckles with his fingertips as he passed it over, and quickly left. "I have a cold, and I'm afraid I'll pass it on to you."
He explained why he was wearing a mask, and considerately eased her embarrassment of not recognizing him.
Xie Yue's embarrassment was quickly discarded as she focused on other things: "Are you feeling better? If you're not feeling well, you don't have to come over. I still remember the address of the apartment, you can take a taxi there."
"It's okay." Yan Yiqi said.
There was no alienation after not seeing each other for a long time. Yan Yiqi seemed more willing to accept the situation, as if they had just met yesterday: "Didn't you go home to visit?"
"No. Grandfather said we haven't seen each other for a long time and asked me to come directly."
"Okay."
"Hmm?" These two simple words made Xie Yue unsure of what he meant.
This time, she came suddenly.
She just got her holiday yesterday and had originally bought a plane ticket back to Yangcheng today, but on the way she received a call from her grandfather, asking her to go directly to Beijing and not to refuse.
She had no choice but to refund the ticket and called Yan Yiqi at the airport, saying that she would arrive in Beijing in three hours.
Yan Yiqi on the other end of the phone was a little surprised.
What was surprising was that she would call him—they hardly contacted each other—and when he heard her say she was coming to Beijing on short notice, he was calm, as if it was just a normal exchange: "What time will you arrive? Okay, I'll come pick you up."
Xie Yue was already embarrassed.
The Xie family's eagerness to cling to the Yan family was too obvious. She hadn't seen Yan Yiqi in a long time, and it had also been a long time since she had seen her blood-related relatives.
So, I stuttered when I said, "You're so busy at work, why would I bother you? Otherwise..."
"What are you thinking about?" Yan Yiqi smiled.
He interrupted what she was about to say, and when he turned his head to look at her, the corners of his eyes raised slightly. "You came at the perfect time. The temperature in Beijing has just dropped recently. I was too busy to take you out much last time. This time is a good opportunity to see the capital."
Xie Yue looked surprised: "Yeah."
She actually didn't have a clear idea of the reason. She didn't know what it was. She was just afraid that he would think she was a burden thrown to him after three years.
But Yan Yiqi didn't seem to think so.
He never exposed her embarrassment and always gave way to her. His every word and action were that of a gentleman with great courtesy.
He lowered his eyes again and repeated, "Yeah."
There was no silence on the way out of the airport. Yan Yiqi asked her about her studies and whether there was anywhere she wanted to go. Finally, when they got in the car, he asked her what she wanted to eat.
"Didn't have time to eat?" he said.
Xie Yue nodded, looked at the mask he hadn't taken off in the car, hesitated and said, "You take off the mask, I'm fine."
"It's no problem."
"Oh." Xie Yue didn't say anything else.
As the car started, she spoke again, "Why don't we just pick them? We'll have to pick them for food later anyway."
Yan Yiqi laughed.
He noticed her stubbornness on the matter and took off his mask.
Xie Yue looked at his face and blinked. Gentleness and elegance were as ingrained in him as ever, and time had also allowed him to settle down.
He has been the executive president of Huiqi Bank in China for four years. The 28-year-old Yan Yiqi looks calm and not at all impetuous, and is much more sharp than the last time he saw him.
She was a year younger than him, had just graduated from school, and was very immature.
She was momentarily distracted, and Yan Yiqi called her back. He was not displeased by her impoliteness, but instead asked curiously with a smile, "What changes have you noticed?"
Xie Yue hurriedly looked away, looking out the car window for no reason.
Traffic surged outside the window. She spoke after a while, her voice soft as a mosquito: "...My nose is a little red."
Yan Yiqi was slightly stunned and laughed muffledly.
He coughed lightly: "I blew my nose quite a few times today."
After a pause, he asked again, "Is it really red?"
After asking this question, Xie Yue couldn't help but turn around to look at him again. This time, she happened to meet his gaze which was shifted towards the right rearview mirror, which was focused and gentle.
She dodged, her words becoming increasingly unclear: "It's, it's okay."
Xie Yue's heart was beating a little fast.
She grabbed the seatbelt, pressing against her heart with the movement.
Yan Yiqi noticed her discomfort and played some music.
Less than two minutes later, the singing stopped abruptly and a phone call came in.
Xie Yue glanced at the screen and saw that the caller was Cheng Yu.
She remembered Cheng Yu.
The last time she came to Beijing, she met Yan Yiqi's friends. They were all very friendly and outgoing. Especially Zhou Zhou, who always talked to her and left her speechless.
But her husband, the man named Cheng Yu, started to criticize Yan Yiqi in a sarcastic tone after just a few words, and even she could hear the sarcasm in his tone.
She had a bad impression of the man at first, thinking that he had a good-looking appearance but spoke rudely. However, Yan Yiqi didn't mind and calmly rejected her suggestion.
On the way back, she curiously asked Yan Yiqi, "Do you all talk like this among your friends?"
Yan Yiqi didn't understand: "Huh?"
Xie Yue mentioned Cheng Yu.
"Him." Yan Yiqi suddenly realized, and his laughter suddenly became more serious. "I used to pursue Zhou Zhou."
He told her calmly and without hiding anything.
Xie Yue was a little surprised. She didn't expect that they would still play together like this. The next second, Yan Yiqi cleared up the confusion. "Zhou Zhou and I are friends first, partners second, and love last, so we won't be together.
Cheng Yu wasn't targeting me. He's used to speaking freely, and that's how friends relax. You and I will be together often, and after a few interactions, you'll know they're all like that."
Xie Yue always believed that friendship should be treated seriously and would not make such jokes. Only then did he realize that there are thousands of possibilities for getting along with friends.
However, she only stayed in the capital for a month and met them once, so she didn't have time to figure it out more clearly.
Yan Yiqi answered the phone.
"Where are you?" The voice on the other end of the line was lazy and spoke immediately. "I'm discharged today. Shall we celebrate tonight?"
Yan Yiqi chuckled: "What's there to celebrate?"
"Fuck you." The other end of the line changed to Pei Shuchen. "I finally managed to get some action out of my brother Yu. Don't ruin it."
Yan Yiqi glanced at Xie Yue, then said, "I have something to do today."
"No, what can a single person like you do?" Pei Shuchen didn't listen and urged, "Hurry up, Yizai, Kaizi, and Song Yue are all here, only you are missing."
"Xie Yue just arrived in the capital."
The other end became quiet.
After a while, the phone returned to Cheng Yu's hand: "Is the little white rabbit here?"
