Chapter 37 Taking you out for a walk

When Li Yuheng strolled back with two cans of beer in his mouth, Shu Bai was watching the sunset with his paws tucked in.

“Here you go.” Li Yuheng pushed the beer over. “I got a freebie, and I also snagged a bag of peanuts.”

Shu Bai glanced at the beer can: "...Really stole it?"

"Nonsense, why would I buy it? Where would I get the money for a dog?"

Li Yuheng slapped the can open with his paw, and foam gushed out.

He quickly licked it, wagging his tail proudly: "Pretty good, huh?"

Shu Bai didn't touch the jar of wine or say anything. Instead, he stared at Li Yuheng's bright eyes for a while.

Li Yuheng: "? What, why are you looking at me?"

Shu Bai gently nudged the peanuts toward Li Yuheng with her paw: "It's nothing, eat more peanuts, they'll help your brain."

That's really strange.

Why does he look like a silly goofball?

Just as Li Yuheng was about to retort, Shu Bai added, "After all, stealing things takes a lot of brainpower."

Li Yuheng: "..."

Alright, so it's Yin Yang, right?

He gave a fake smile, pushed the peanuts back, and said politely, "Oh, you should eat them. After all, you're still young and it's time for you to grow."

Shu Bai sneered, grabbed a handful of peanuts, and stuffed them into Li Yuheng's mouth.

"No, you're too old. You should eat more to supplement your calcium intake, so that you don't lose your bone density and fall behind me."

Li Yuheng's mouth was stuffed full, and he protested indistinctly, "What the hell...?"

He looked at the cat's face so close to his own, its eyes, which always held a coldness, now seemed unusually bright in the setting sun.

Li Yuheng felt a sudden, inexplicable stirring in his heart.

This cat looks quite cute when it's angry.

He subconsciously chewed the peanut in his mouth, the crunchy texture spreading throughout his mouth.

Shu Bai stared at Li Yuheng's puffed-out cheeks, and that bit of irritation in his heart resurfaced.

This stupid dog even looks so...pleasing to the eye when it's eating.

He quickly retracted his paw, "I might as well choke you to death."

Shu Bai looked away, his tone stiff.

Li Yuheng swallowed a peanut, grinned, and leaned closer: "Worried about me?"

"Get away from me, peanut residue is spraying in my face."

"don't want."

Li Yuheng leaned forward again, his nose touching the downy hair on the side of his sparse white neck. He took a deep breath, and then his eyes lit up as if he had discovered a new continent.

"Hey, you smell pretty good."

It's not a floral scent or an artificial fragrance; it's a warm scent reminiscent of sun-baked fur, mixed with a touch of the cat's unique, sharp aroma.

Shu Bai froze, his claws tightening instantly as he dug them into the cracks between the bricks beneath him.

Does this dog even know what it's saying?

Shu Bai suddenly retreated, his tail bristling: "Are you a pervert?"

Li Yuheng blinked innocently: "What's wrong with good brothers smelling each other?"

He genuinely didn't think there was anything wrong with what he had just done.

Since discovering that teasing Shubai could bring so much unexpected joy, this cat, who always had a stern face, gradually came alive in his eyes.

Shu Bai is no longer just a volatile opponent who bares his teeth and claws at the first sight of him, but also a lively and interesting being.

I used to think this cat was a formidable fighter with a sharp tongue, making it a worthy opponent.

Now we've discovered that when Shu Bai gets annoyed by him, her ears twitch, she purrs when her tail is pinched, and she even awkwardly shows concern for him.

These discoveries made Li Yuheng feel... quite novel, and even somewhat cute.

He finally understood that Shu Bai was essentially a paper tiger.

He may look fierce and intimidating, but once someone is included in his circle of friends, their bottom line is lowered again and again, and their tolerance is surprisingly high.

Then, thinking that Shu Bai was younger than him, Li Yuheng's subtle sense of care for the older man quietly grew, and he found the other man's awkward and arrogant appearance extremely interesting.

At this moment, he truly understood why so many people in the world willingly become cat slaves.

It turns out that teasing kittens and watching their reactions of caring but pretending to be indifferent is so addictive.

Shu Bai stared at Li Yuheng's dog-like face, which was both calm and inquisitive, feeling a tightness in his chest.

This stupid dog has no idea what those overstepping boundaries of intimacy and taken-for-granted closeness mean to him.

The threads of affection swirl silently deep within the soul, yet seem to have struck an impenetrable wall.

Li Yuheng's affection is open and passionate, yet it remains firmly within the boundaries of being a good brother, unwavering.

Seeing that Shu Bai remained silent, Li Yuheng assumed he was just being difficult and chuckled as he moved closer, nuzzling his nose against the other's beard: "Why aren't you saying anything? Are you shy?"

Shu Bai suddenly buried his head in the hair on Li Yuheng's neck and said in a muffled voice, "Sometimes I really want to find an axe."

Li Yuheng was taken aback, and his mouth involuntarily opened into a grin: "What? Are you going to help me chop wood? No need to be so polite."

For the first time, his good friend, the cat, buried himself in his fur.

Can anyone explain this?

Feeling inexplicably happy.

"Split your brain open." Shu Bai's voice came from the fluffy creature, filled with despair. "Let's see what kind of junk is inside."

"Of course, it's brain tissue that combines intelligence and beauty."

“I suspect there are only two balls inside.” Shu Bai looked up, his gaze deathly fixed. “One is called ‘I’m your dad,’ and the other is called ‘Come and fight,’ connected by ‘hehehe.’”

Li Yuheng was shocked: "How did you know?! But we missed one, 'My Best Friend Cat' is in there too!"

"...Is that the main point?"

"So what's the main point?" Li Yuheng tilted his head, his eyes innocent. "You want to perform brain surgery on me? Let's make it clear first, you'll need anesthesia."

Shu Bai stared at him for three seconds, then buried her head back down, taking a deep breath of dog hair: "Forget it, his head is too thick, the axe will chip."

"That's right! With a head like mine, even the stone lions at the South Heavenly Gate would have to call me 'brother' if they bumped into me!"

Shu Bai rolled her eyes silently.

Sometimes he was really curious about how this stupid dog managed to separate "I like you" and "You are my best bro" in his mind.

They even used reinforced concrete to build a safety barrier.

Li Yuheng nudged him with his nose: "Hey, stop thinking about my brain, you can't open it anyway. How about we team up to steal some pancakes tomorrow?"

Shu Bai looked up, his eyes lifeless: "I'm thinking about how to straighten out your thought process."

"Why bend it? It's so much fun to bend it around, like a roller coaster. Want to ride it? It's free for you."

"...Sit on my head."

Li Yuheng's eyes darted around, and he suddenly asked, "Hey, silly cat, have you ever seen the sea?"

Shu Bai was annoyed, and upon hearing this, she glanced at him with a puzzled look: "No. Why are you asking this?"

The next second, the brown and white beagle disappeared.

Before Shu Bai could react, she was steadily lifted up by a pair of hands and gently placed on her head.

He looked down and met a stranger's face.

Instead, there was a tall young man, who looked to be about eighteen or nineteen years old, with black hair and eyes, striking features, and a nonchalant smile on his lips.

"How was it?" Li Yuheng's voice was clear and bright. "Am I handsome?"

Shu Bai stood frozen on his head, her claws unconsciously tugging at a few strands of his hair: "...What are you doing?"

Li Yuheng lifted the cat by its rear end and gave it a little shake, then snapped his fingers: "Let's show our good buddy what's what!"

The surrounding scenery blurred instantly.

The salty, humid scent of the sea breeze hit me.

Shu Bai's pupils suddenly contracted.

They stood on a deserted beach, with an endless expanse of blue stretching before them.

The setting sun was slowly sinking below the horizon, turning the sky and sea into a golden-red hue.

Li Yuheng lifted Shu Bai off his head, put him in his arms, and plopped down on the beach.

"Look, the sea." He swung his leg proudly. "Isn't it beautiful?"

"Hurry up and watch it, half an hour at most. To be honest, I actually ran away to be a dog, and I'll be discovered if I stay too long."

Shu Bai turned to look at him: "...You've never taken human form, is it because of this?"

"Otherwise what?" Li Yuheng shrugged. "My parents have been looking for me very eagerly. But seeing the way you look today, I'll take pity on you and bring you out for a walk to cheer you up."

He poked his sparse, white forehead: "Consider this an early gift to please you. Do you like it?"
