Chapter 5: Top Actor (Gong) x Washed-Up Movie Emperor (Shou)

After several attempts by Li Yuheng to test Shu Bai, Shu Bai remained unresponsive.

So he took a deep breath, mentally prepared himself, and finally made up his mind to do something that was completely out of character for his "cool guy" persona.

He was willing to go all out to find a brotherhood.

Taking advantage of Shu Bai turning around to get the seasonings, he quickly leaned close to her ear, covered the microphone, and whispered at lightning speed, "Meow—"

(Translation: Silly cat, do you still remember the dog by the trash can back then?)

Shu Bai whirled around, nearly smashing the pepper shaker in her hand onto Li Yuheng's nose: "What's wrong with you?"

Li Yuheng quickly took two steps back and said nonchalantly, "Teacher Shubai has really sharp ears."

Shu Bai looked at him as if he were an idiot: "Teacher Li, are you hallucinating while recording the show?" He pointed to his temple, "I suggest you go see a neurologist."

Li Yuheng stared at Shu Bai's expressionless profile and gritted his teeth inwardly.

This isn't right.

Knowing that cat as he did, he knew it would definitely bristle on the spot upon hearing cat language.

But now Shu Bai is not responding at all.

Li Yuheng narrowed his eyes and instantly concluded that Shu Bai had no memory.

Tsk, boring.

He pursed his lips, casually picked up a small cucumber, took a bite, and stared intently at Shu Bai while making a crunching sound.

I've remembered you for so many years, and you've completely forgotten?

Shu Bai glanced at him, puzzled.

Li Yuheng finished the cucumber in a few bites, flicked his wrist, and the cucumber stem drew an arc, landing precisely in the trash can five meters away with a "thud".

As he turned around, he flicked the hem of his clothes, creating a gust of wind, as if he had just completed some incredible stunt.

Shu Bai had just picked up the pot to prepare the third dish when his hand suddenly went empty.

Li Yuheng suddenly appeared beside him and snatched the pot away.

“I’ll do this one.” Li Yuheng spun the wok with one hand, the spatula leaving afterimages on his fingertips. “It’s time to show my true skills.”

Seeing that Shu Bai's first two dishes were quite good, Li Yuheng immediately felt a sense of crisis.

Even if you were good friends before, you can't steal the spotlight from his leading man role.

Shu Bai watched his performance with a cold eye: "Were you lying just now, saying you couldn't do it?"

“How can something done by a genius be called a lie?” Li Yuheng slammed the pot on the stove, and flames shot up with a “whoosh.” “That’s called strategically concealing strength.”

Shu Bai stood to the side with his arms crossed, watching Li Yuheng's fluid movements.

Heating the oil, sautéing the aromatics, adding the ingredients—every step is so precise it's as if it's been measured.

His eyes flickered slightly, and he suddenly asked, "You've studied this?"

Li Yuheng didn't even turn his head: "Of course, my great-grandfather cooked for the King of Hell."

Shu Bai: "..."

[Hahaha, what the hell is this about cooking for the King of Hell?]

This lie is so convincing that even the King of Hell would crawl out of the underworld to give it a thumbs up.

0090: [Your Highness! You cannot reveal your identity!]

Li Yuheng calmly tossed the ladle in the pan: "What's the panic? Who would believe that? Besides, I made it up on the spot."

0090's exasperation: [Then how come you know how to cook?]

"I just learned it from Shu Bai. He's a genius; he learns it in no time."

Li Yuheng didn't have a great-grandfather at all. He slept all day in the underworld and naturally never learned cooking skills.

As expected, Shu Bai gave her a "you're out of your mind" look and turned to organize the condiment bottles.

Li Yuheng stared at his busy back, a meaningful smile playing on his lips.

Now that he's confirmed that Shu Bai is the cat from back then, he can't let the protagonist and that scumbag Gong Yu get together.

How could his brother, Li Yuheng, be defiled by such a scoundrel?

The three groups of guests have successively completed their dinner tasks.

Gong Yu's group's three dishes looked excellent, and You Keke was frantically taking pictures with her phone.

"Gong Yu, you're amazing!" You Keke's eyes sparkled. "This sweet and sour pork ribs looks even more professional than the ones in restaurants!"

Gong Yu smiled modestly: "I often cook at home, so practice makes perfect."

As he spoke, his gaze involuntarily drifted toward Shu Bai.

Li Yuheng quickly stepped in front of them and picked up a piece of pork rib with his chopsticks: "Let me try it."

Gong Yu's expression froze: "Teacher Li, we're waiting for everyone to come together..."

"It tastes good." Li Yuheng chewed a couple of times and commented seriously, "It's just that there's too much sugar in it, it's cloyingly sweet."

Gong Yu forced a smile: "Maybe it's because I have a sweet tooth..."

“No wonder.” Li Yuheng gave him a meaningful look. “It’s sickeningly sweet.”

So your Mediterranean-looking old bottom boyfriend is quite sweet.

[Gong Yu: What did I do to deserve this?]

Is Li Yuheng out of his mind? Is he targeting newcomers?

[Hilarious, Gong Yu's fans are already on edge? Our Hengzi speaking the truth is considered targeting?]

[Is this the kind of quality Li Yuheng's fans have? Seniors bullying newcomers and they think they're in the right?]

Gong Yu has such a good temper; if it were me, I would have lost my temper long ago.

[Oh, is this what you call bullying? If you're so easily offended, you shouldn't be in the entertainment industry.]

The comments section instantly erupted into chaos.

In the production team's monitoring room, the director, watching the soaring ratings and the explosive number of comments, silently wiped away his sweat: "Should we cut this segment or not?"

Assistant director: "If we cut it, the audience will flood our official Weibo account with complaints, so let's keep it..."

The camera panned across Shu Bai, who was seen lowering his head, pursing his lips, and his shoulders twitching suspiciously.

Li Yuheng caught a glimpse of Shu Bai's reaction out of the corner of his eye and suddenly leaned closer: "Teacher Shu Bai, do you find it funny?"

Shu Bai immediately resumed her cold expression: "Boring."

Jiang Wei and Zhao Wen, the "sister duo," presented three delicious and visually appealing home-style dishes, with plating so exquisite it looked like restaurant fare.

"I'm in charge of chopping the vegetables, and Weiwei is in charge of stir-frying," Zhao Wen proudly introduced. "We call ourselves the 'Beauty and the Beast' duo!"

Jiang Wei glanced at Zhao Wen: "Who are you calling a beast?"

Zhao Wen immediately corrected herself: "A combination of beauties!"

The screen was filled with "hahaha" comments.

When it was Li Yuheng and Shu Bai's turn to present, the atmosphere at the table became noticeably more subtle.

Li Yuheng leaned back in his chair with a nonchalant air and gestured with his chin toward Shu Bai: "Teacher Shu Bai, please."

Shu Bai, with a cold expression, placed the three dishes on the table.

The first dish was hot and sour shredded potatoes made by Shu Bai. It was golden in color, garnished with red chili peppers and green onions, and had a fragrant aroma, but the shredded potatoes were uneven in thickness.

The second dish was shredded pork with garlic sauce, made with fine knife skills and a rich sauce.

The third dish was something Li Yuheng made on a whim... "Charcoal-grilled fish".

Literally, it's charcoal grilled, with the fish charred black like charcoal, and only a few spots showing the original fish meat.

The dining table fell silent instantly.

Jiang Wei stared at the "grilled fish": "Is this shit? No, I misspoke, what is this?"

Zhao Wen exaggeratedly clutched her chest: "My God! This fish died so tragically! Did it offend any Kitchen God in its lifetime?"

Yu Keke carefully poked the charred fish with her chopsticks, trying to smooth things over: "Actually...it actually smells quite good! Teacher Li, you've done a great job cooking for your first time!"

Shu Bai glanced at the plate of dark, charcoal-grilled fish and his lips twitched: "This is... charcoal mixed with soy sauce?"

Li Yuheng remained expressionless, picked up his chopsticks and tapped the fish with a "clang," causing the charred outer shell to crack open and reveal the snow-white, tender fish meat inside: "This is called volcanic rock grilled fish, a Michelin three-star technique. Mr. Shu Bai, would you like to go first?"

Shu Bai picked up a small piece with some skepticism, and frowned as soon as she put it in her mouth: "...It's too salty."

"Impossible!" Li Yuheng took a bite himself, his expression instantly freezing. "Uh, well, maybe I put in a little too much salt..."

Shu Bai sneered and pushed the plate back: "This is what you call 'real skill'?"

Li Yuheng remained unfazed: "Mistakes are the mother of success."

"Then you have quite a few mothers."
