Chapter 17
After finishing the call with Aunt Lin, the two continued with their work.
Mu Yunting: "The meringue should be at a vertical angle."
Su Qiong: "What is a vertical angle? Like this?"
"Let me check... Yes, that's it." Mu Yunting handed the phone to Su Qiong.
"Bake at 130 degrees for 50 minutes, then turn to 150 degrees and bake for 10 minutes..." Mu Yunting muttered to himself, holding the electronic instruction manual he had just received from customer service, and bent down to scan the oven buttons one by one.
Su Qiong was worried that Mu Yunting wouldn't be able to carve the bunny apples, so she sent him off to bake bread. Su Qiong hummed a tune to herself as she happily sliced the apples. She had seen a bunny apple platter before and still remembered it, so she decided to make it, perfect for decorating the cake.
Once again, I sighed in my heart, this is indeed a high-end community with a nanny. There are all kinds of tools in the house, even a rotating base for spreading cream on cakes!
Mu Yunting set the baking time for the cake base and stood in front of the oven looking at his phone.
Su Qiong placed the apple bunny on a porcelain plate and turned to see his stern expression. She assumed he was dealing with some difficult project at the company, so she went over to see what was going on. As she got closer, she realized Mu Yunting was working on a tutorial for applying cream to a cake. ...She'd assumed he was watching some important company news.
But now she has resigned, and it seems that even if something happens in the company, she has no right to say anything.
Applying the buttercream was much more difficult than they had imagined. Perhaps it was because the cake was difficult to remove from the baking container, resulting in bumps and dents, and the buttercream was not whipped well, so the spread was not smooth.
"What do you think of this arrangement? The rabbits line up and form a triangle in the center." Su Qiong asked Mu Yunting, pinching the apple with her washed fingers and waving it in the air to gesture.
Mu Yunting matched Su Qiong's brain waves, gestured with his fingers, and finally agreed, "Okay."
Su Qiong heard it and began to gesture where to put the first one. She had already accepted that Mu Yunting only talked a lot when watching dramas.
After watching a drama with Mu Yunting for the first time, she wondered if she hadn't paid enough attention to her boss's life, having never realized he could be so talkative and enthusiastic. But the next day, she noticed he'd returned to his usual work-related sternness, and she felt bewildered. But after watching movies and TV series with Mu Yunting several times, she saw how knowledgeable he was about them, and she clapped her hands, figuring it was just a matter of his personal interests.
Su Qiong had been living here for almost a month and had long since grown accustomed to the daily routine of work, but watching the drama was like being possessed by Mu Yunting. At this moment, her expression was normal, as she played with the bunny apple.
Finally, they stuck apple slices on the side of the cake, and a beautiful yet slightly ugly cake was born!
"There are two more little rabbits." Mu Yunting said, staring at the two remaining apples. His obsessive-compulsive disorder was about to kick in. He wanted to stuff these two onto the cake as well, but that would ruin the shape.
Su Qiong thought it was an easy solution, "Just eat it."
Mu Yunting relaxed his brows.
So they each took a bite and divided it.
Su Qiong chewed her apple, the more she looked at the cake, the more satisfied she felt. The cake itself had failed twice, and it had taken them nearly four hours to make. She admired it for a moment, washed her hands, and pulled out her phone. "I'll take a picture as a souvenir."
Mu Yunting looked at the cake in front of him and felt a sense of accomplishment, as if the company had made a single percentage point in growth, but he couldn't quite put his finger on why. He saw Su Qiong taking out her phone to take a picture, so he pulled it out too, snapping a few.
Mu Yunting admired the cake photos he'd just taken for a while, feeling frustrated. He felt the photos didn't capture the beauty of the cake he and Su Qiong had made, which was clearly more delicate and beautiful to the naked eye. He awkwardly opened the photo editor and realized he had no idea what tonal contrast was. He gave up and sent five or six photos with only slight differences to his childhood friend, adding a reserved four words.
"We did."
My childhood friend was browsing his phone at the time and replied almost instantly.
“???”
"You did it?"
"Mu Yunting, you made the cake?!"
"Su Qiong didn't do it alone! What were you involved in?"
Mu Yunting didn't reply and secretly turned off his phone.
Su Qiong put away her phone, looked up at him, and grinned, "Let's take it out to eat. It's almost time for dinner." She had spent a leisurely afternoon making cakes, and it was now past five o'clock.
Mu Yunting held the cake carefully, and Su Qiong carried a high wooden table in front. The two found a good spot on the balcony, put down the cake comfortably, and then turned around and each brought out a stool.
Staying in the room all day is really suffocating. Now is a good time to enjoy the view outside the window.
The apartment is on the 17th floor, facing the city park. The scenery outside is just right. The trees look like bushes from the high building. I don’t know if it’s the birds dancing or the gentle breeze that causes the leaves to sway.
