Chapter 24

Chapter 24

Who could have imagined that I would persuade my boss to play a B-game? Who could have imagined that my random, crazy online nickname would backfire on me years later?

Su Qiong hadn't changed her name since she started playing Fate. It was around the time she failed her postgraduate entrance exam and decided to enter the workplace, so she chose it casually as a solace. Later, she decided it reflected her life as a social worker and a reminder of a difficult time, so she kept it. Who knew her former boss, Mu Yunting, would see it...

I saw her name and it means she picks up garbage to eat at work...

Picking up garbage to eat at work...

"Ahhhhhhhhhhh!" The scream echoed in Su Qiong's mind. She exerted force with her hands, scrubbing the dishes like a motor, trying to erase the memory of Mu Yunting's name from his mind.

She was in a state of confusion in the kitchen, and Mu Yunting, who had taken over the dishwashing job, received an unexpected call from his mother.

Mu Yunting walked to the balcony, holding the phone to his ear. "Hello, Mom." He admired the plants and flowers on the balconies of the neighbors. They were growing healthily, and he was thinking about whether he and Su Qiong should also raise some plants. What kind would be good? Mung beans happened to be at home...

A lively voice came from the receiver, clearly excited: "Xiaoting, Siwen said you were living with your girlfriend. When did you start dating? How come I didn't know? Hurry and bring her back to meet me!"

Mu Yunting was stunned by this explosive statement. Girlfriend? Girlfriend?

"Where did this rumor come from? Aunt Luo, who told it to you? Chen Chuanbai?" Mu Yunting was speechless. Although he didn't know what was going on, he quickly refuted the rumor. "It's just that other people are trapped in my community because of the epidemic."

Aunt Luo's full name is Luo Siwen. She is Chen Chuanbai's mother. She has been a close friend of Mu Yunting's mother, Liu Yu, for many years and loves gossip. He reasonably suspected that Chen Chuanbai had distorted the facts in order to divert Aunt Luo's attention from marriage urging and gossiping.

Liu Yu's voice was filled with regret: "So that's how it is. We were banned from living together because of the epidemic."

"Siwen swore so confidently that you were living with a beautiful girl. I didn't believe her at first, but who asked her to make such a promise?"

"Aunt Luo was misunderstood because of Chen Chuanbai." He stood on the balcony, rubbing his sleeves with his fingertips from time to time, his eyes darting around, turning and glancing at the kitchen. The familiar long black hair and back figure in his field of vision were particularly eye-catching. He chatted with Liu Yu for a few words about family matters. "The company is doing well. There hasn't been any major impact."

Liu Yu told him not to work too hard, as health is also important. "Although work is really fulfilling and happy, you have to be moderate!"

Mu Yunting agreed obediently, "You and Dad too, don't stay up late for charity events."

After Mu Yunting's parents abdicated, they entrusted the company to him. They took a break from traveling, but couldn't get too idle and fell back into work. Under the name "Lingyun Zhizhi," the couple founded a charitable organization to help students in impoverished mountainous areas. It's now flourishing and well-known, keeping them incredibly busy.

Not long after, there was a knock on the door on the other end of Liu Yu's phone. Probably there was a new cooperation to discuss, so she hung up the phone.

Mu Yunting put his phone in his pocket and looked at the morning sky from the balcony. He and Su Qiong had a regular breakfast time, finishing their meals around seven o'clock. Today, he finished his phone call just after seven ten.

It is almost June now, there are a lot of dark clouds and it is a cloudy day, but the moon can still be seen in the sky.

Gazing at the silent, empty city of Shanghai for a moment, Mu Yunting was still filled with emotion about the pandemic. Gone were the throngs of people and the bustle of traffic, the dazzling lights and dazzling street signs. The only things that moved were the wind-blown leaves and the ripples on the water. Occasionally, a few work trucks and supply trucks carrying Dabai passed by on the empty streets. He felt a genuine sense of desolation amid the concrete trees and the cold, reflective, leaf-like buildings.

Near the residential complex is a park. Looking down, I see the landscaping is quite well-maintained, with lush trees and shrubs, stretches of lawn, and artificial ponds with fish. These add a touch of life and vitality to the otherwise unpopular city.

Mu Yunting couldn't see the greenery on the ground floor or the fish under the water. He could only see the shimmering water in the pond and the green plants and flowers on the balconies of several nearby residents. He inexplicably felt as if he was living in another world, in a small world.
