Chapter 25
Mu Yunting returned to his study and began his busy work. Although the company's headquarters was temporarily unable to operate offline, fortunately, technological advancements, video conferencing, and various communication software facilitated normal work. He held a morning meeting to ensure that there were no issues with the integration of the headquarters and branches, which had completely buffered the company from the epidemic crisis.
The new working method innovation implemented by the company during this epidemic crisis has given Mu Yunting a lot of insights. Perhaps it can further improve the efficiency of daily work, thus eliminating red tape and saving unnecessary time and processes...
"Knock, knock, knock." The knock on the door interrupted Mu Yunting's relaxed thoughts, and his index finger stopped tapping on the table.
Su Qiong stood outside the door frame, cup of hot coffee in hand, smiling at him. Since she wasn't working, she wasn't wearing glasses. Her almond-shaped eyes were round, dark, and clear. She was wearing the only set of home workout clothes in the suitcase, giving her a playful, youthful air that was unlike her work-life composure.
Mu Yunting's study has a sliding frosted glass door that is not closed, but Su Qiong is afraid of disturbing his work by rushing in, so she knocks on the door every time she wants to interrupt.
"Coffee today!" Su Qiong placed the cup with the aroma of coffee in the empty space next to the documents, said hello and was about to go out.
"Wait," Mu Yunting called out to Su Qiong as she turned around, "How about we grow some plants? We have nothing to do anyway." Seeing Su Qiong's surprised expression, he explained that it was a sudden idea on his balcony and continued, "I think mung beans would be easier to grow. Sprouted potatoes can also be planted."
Su Qiong agreed loudly: "Okay! Then I'll go see what kind of container can be used for planting?" She had been holding back her thoughts for a long time, and now she was willing to study and have fun if she was asked to do some magic indoors, but she was afraid of going crazy in front of Mu Yunting and scaring him.
"We'll discuss this later when you're done with your work. We won't disturb you."
Watching Su Qiong leave briskly, Mu Yunting took a sip of the warm coffee. It was bitter but not greasy. His brows relaxed. Sure enough, coffee brewed by Su Qiong was the most enjoyable start to a day's work.
Logically speaking, the two of them could barely be considered friends living together, so Su Qiong didn't need to continue making coffee for Mu Yunting as she did at work. The reason for this was just an ordinary day, an ordinary opportunity.
During the first half of the month after being locked down due to the pandemic, Mu Yunting was busy from dusk to dawn, and from dawn to dusk, handling company affairs. He didn't care at first, after all, it wasn't a particularly heavy workload. But he didn't expect his energy to dissipate so quickly, and he felt visibly tired before the week was over.
Mu Yunting blinked his dry eyes, let out a breath, stood up and walked out of the study, trying to relax and wake up for a while.
In the living room, the TV was blaring, "Who won, the human or the machine?" Su Qiong's expression was a bit blank, and she was clearly lost in thought. She noticed Mu Yunting coming out of the study and, somewhat surprised, shifted her posture and sat up straighter.
Noticing Su Qiong's gaze, Mu Yunting took the initiative to explain: "I'm a little tired, so I came out to relax."
Su Qiong uttered an "oh" and looked up at the ancient clock on the TV—Oh my God! It was only a little after eight in the morning, and Mu Yunting was already tired!
I hope the boss is not possessed by some lazy guy!
Mu Yunting sat on the sofa, leaning back against the cushions, his eyes closed and his brows rubbed tiredly. To say the workload was too heavy was a stretch; after all, it had been busier before. Besides the pandemic, working from home was the biggest difference, which was not being able to drink satisfying coffee.
After Su Qiong resigned, she no longer had the obligation to make coffee for him. Mu Yunting felt unhappy every time he worked. If he didn't like the coffee he made, it would be better not to make it. He would have no energy if he didn't drink it.
Su Qiong's attention had long since left the TV. She quietly glanced at Mu Yunting, who was sitting not far away. Following his gaze, she saw a small coffee machine. A thought flashed through her mind: I haven't seen the boss making coffee in the past few days. She seemed to remember him making coffee during the first few days of the lockdown, but then he stopped making it for some unknown reason.
"Do you want me to make you a cup of coffee to wake you up?" Su Qiong asked.
Mu Yunting released the fingers that were pinching his nose bridge and nodded to Su Qiong: "Okay, thank you, thank you for your trouble." He couldn't ask for more.
Su Qiong stood up, skillfully took out the tools and beans from the cabinet under the coffee machine, and brewed it neatly. She was also very familiar with this coffee machine. Occasionally, when she flew back from other places after work, Su Qiong would use it to make coffee for the two of them when she rested here.
Mu Yunting watched the automatic apple peeling machine on TV for a while, then stood up and stood next to Su Qiong, eager to get the coffee.
He took a sip, and the familiar taste awakened his passion for work. He felt relaxed from head to toe, sighing softly, "Delicious."
Su Qiong chuckled and poured herself a cup.
The next day, Su Qiong asked again: "Would you like some coffee?"
"Well, that's troublesome."
Day 3: "Do you want coffee?"
"Yes, thank you."
Day 5: "The coffee is ready."
"Thank you, thank you for your hard work."
Just like that, an inexplicable tacit understanding was created.
Mu Yunting held the cup handle with one hand and swiped the computer touch screen with the other hand, hoping to finish the work ahead of time and discuss the mung bean farming with Su Qiong.
